For many gamers, those were the first hot-seat games of childhood. Warlords series is back on our PCs thanks to Slitherine and GOG.COM. Check out turn-based strategy titles that preceded games like Heroes of Might and Magic.

As a leader of one of the fantasy factions, you have to conquer the land, vanquish your enemies while searching for magical treasures and beasts. Warlords I + II and Warlords III: Darklords Rising are games that still provide lots of fun in single and multiplayer and are quite a challenge even for experienced gamers.

hollunder: I'm only familiar with the Warlords Battlecry games, so I guess these are somewhat similar?

The Warlords 3 screenshots look horizontally stretched, is this a bad widescreen patch or just a fail on GOGs part?
The game runs under a wrapper (I believe that it is some kind of modified barebones dgvoodoo2) and one of the options is running the game at desktop resolution and or respecting the aspect ratio, vsync on or off, antialiasing, anisotropic etc... by defect in gog the game is configured with desktop resolution, windowed and aspect ratio off. So thegame looks deformed because the 1024 x768 res tries to fill all the screen

Interesting, thanks. Do you have any problem with colors appearing distorted when you load the game? I still have the original box and discs but i remember having problems with that when i changed to Win7 and installed the game again.

Anyway, this is a must for any TBS fan and another wishlist item done! Insta-buy.

Oh, and a big shout to the great Steve Fawkner. You can't imagine how many hours i have sunked with Warlords, Warlords Battlecry and also Puzzle Quest series.

Evidently the original games had rainbow colors compatibility problems in windows 7 windows 8 windows 10 etc due to the 256 colors palette, deprecated in the modern iterations of windows. Not only that, but problems with the software mouse pointer n game. But the wrapper is added to solve that and make the game compatible with modern windows, or that is the idea.

:S Going to test it in a few minutes and will see what happens, but i suppose GOG staff has already test the game with all modern O.S.

Thanks again!

The gog version is working great for me with none of the issues that plagued earlier virtual machine versions I had tried.
I've just arrived so bought the whole series, as I promised.

And seriously people, buying old games without waiting for sales is the best way to support GOG in its effort to bring classic games!

For me it's not working well, sadly. Fullscreen is just impossible becasue mouse cursor. I tried with "-wincursor" but no luck.

If i play windowed with "-wincursor" parameter i am able to use all menu options without problem, but only while windowed and disabling aspect ratio correction.

Oh, and in-game i have to disable auto-scrolling and drag the map manually or the scroll goes all to the left of the screen when i move the mouse there and no other direction works.

Colors are all ok, though, no more that old problem i had with original disks.

I will search for other solutions, but for now i can't play fullscreen no matter what i do.

Win7 64 here, btw.
It's VERY good, of course, to see Warlords series on GOG at last.

But... the quality of releases (and following support) of old games on GOG declines constantly (just look at MissionForce: Cyberstorm), and I have all the originals, and I have WinXP desktop to play them, so why should I bother with lame GOG releases?

And the price is inadequate for products of aforementioned quality (quality of releases and not games!).
windowed at desktop resolution with aspect ratio correction as optional is stable for me. No need to use -wincursor either.

Win7 64 here as info. I use to run apps in fullscreen but in this game does not appear any difference. It runs borderless if desktop resolution is selected.

greetings
Warlords series is back on our PCs thanks to Slitherine (c)

Just have noticed it. Damn, it's VERY bad. First Master of Magic, then Warlords. So now we "wait" for Master of Magic 2 and Warlords 5.

No. Just no. Only Paradox could be worse, really. Or Wargaming. There's absolutely NO need to make new games in good old series now, because the very purposes and principles of game-making have been changed (as well as target auditory and the "community"). Leave the old gold alone, bastards. Earn your money elsewhere.

1. If you don't buy any games, why are you hanging around here?

2. In which sense is this release "inferior"? We got the original Warlords bundled with the Deluxe version of the sequel. There is simply no way to improve upon this.
Oh, yes! Instabought. This was on my wishilst for a long time. Now for some self-displicine. After all, I was playing Warlords II so long in one go that I exhausted myself and got an epileptic seizure :-S for the second time in my life. Luckily I haven't had any seizures for more than 10 years now.

After some more tests (compatibility options, scaling and others) i had to use the nvidia control panel to set app to use single core and disable Gsync.

In dxcfg i am using now the desktop res+windowed with aspect ratio correction disabled and 1024x768 in the game launcher without the -wincursor parameter and now i'm able to see the original cursor and all works perfectly (even the auto-scroll option in the game) It also scales to fit the full screen without problems (and i can read text much better now!)

Not sure why Gsync messes up anything for me in this case but it doesn't matter because i can play it again flawlessly and without any graphic distortion! :))

Greetings! saludos!

My assumption is that as the wrapper includes itself vsync to be switched probably it messes with any other external adaptive vsync when ran in fullscreen. But no sure because normally external vsyncs use to overlap the game´s vsync.

I am glad now all works fine from your side.

Would be dandy if you posted the solution here https://www.gog.com/forum/warlords_series and asked some Blue to sticky it. I guess you won't be last with this problem.
