The Technomancer and Mars: War Logs are now available DRM-free. Get them up to 75% off until October 10th, 1pm UTC.

Mars: War Logs takes you to Mars, nearly a century after the cataclysm that threw the planet and its colonists into chaos. Water has become the most precious resource on the arid red planet, with a few companies fighting a perpetual war for its control.

The Technomancer is a sci-fi RPG set on Mars, featuring dynamic combat and an epic story line, where your choices will affect the fate of the Red Planet. You are a Technomancer, a formidable warrior harnessing destructive electrical powers. Embark on a perilous journey across a planet torn apart by conflict and infested with mutant creatures.

i_hope_you_rot: What makes Spider's games so special ? Why are they worth the money ?
It's a hard one to lock down something in particular.

The IT / X factor. Just something, that despite bugs, quirks, weird voice acting etc, just still draws you in.

During BioWares best years, there was just something about their games, the BioWare feel. Spiders have something like that too, although it's different.

There is a steady progression in the quality of their games, the translations and voice acting from Mars War Logs to GreedFall is incredible, with GreedFall being up there with the best.

Their games definitely have the Spiders feel. Unique to them.

TheGreatDustpan: Keep the Focus Home train moving.
I'm getting really optimistic for GreedFall now. Shame they couldn't have brought it here day 1, but the upside is that hopefully some of the bugs and jank will be fixed by the time it arrives on GOG.
I insta-bought these so fast my PayPal account was set on fire...

I love Focus home and Spiders..... They are such an awesome company... The Surge, Vampyr, Mars, Bound by Flame, and Technomancer are such joys to play. These are so very much my JAM

I hope we can see The Surge 2 here ASAP!
I wonder if we can have Mars: War Logs soundtrack in our libraries as well ; >
The Original Game Soundtrack of Mars: War Logs Is Now Available for Free

kud13: Answering the commenter's question though- the trailer for War Logs makes the game look a lot slicker than it actually is. It's still an interesting game, don't get me wrong- but The Witcher it certainly isn't

Icinix: One of the things that really drew me into MWL, was how much it felt like the first The Witcher (non EE). Some quirky translations, some things that didn't make sense.

Although they've followed a different trajectory, GreedFall is up there with some of the best RPGs in the last decade, so they're well on their way to being held up next to CD Projekt, the same way CD Projekt eventually were held up to (and have now surpassed) BioWare.

They've got the magic RPG touch, just with a little less elegance, and a little more dirt under the finger nails.
Agreed. I really hope that being bought by Big Ben (just like Cyanide was last year) won't affect their output.

I'm playing through GreedFall now, and although I'm still in the early parts of the game, It's definitely giving me the same sense of wanting to discover stuff that the Witcher 1 did (and that game is probably in my top 10 of all time)
Did they end up cleaning up Mars War Logs english scripting?

takezodunmer2005: Thank GoG for spiders/focus for de-steaming their games! ;) I too had mars/BbF via steam, so here's to them bringing their entire library over here, and maybe we may get Styx as well as orcs and men as well! :D
Well don't think Spiders will get any say in that one.
Usually down to the Publisher, though I expect devs cam influence the decision, normally.

However Bigben Interactive, has taken several dev studios off Focus Home Interactive recently, and there appears to be some seriously bad blood between these two French Publishers. Resulting in the recent Frogwares IP dispute, which was one of the devs to jump over to Bigben Interactive. Frogware, and Big Wolf have signed a publishing deal, as far as I can tell, but Cyanide, another ex FHI dev, was bought by Bigben.

That's important, because on 24th July, Bigben Interactive actually acquired Spiders Dev Studio, with the deal being finalised, with a full cash payment, in early September.

Seeing as GreedFall was released on 10th September, it's pretty clear, that was the reason for a delay.

Since then, I'm not aware of any Spiders Devs involvement in GreedFall, the recent patch was announced by the community manager, of the FHI forums. It's not that unusual for another dev team to provide post release support, and that's without the publisher rivalry going on.

In any case the next Spiders game's got a new Owner/Publisher.
I'm always concerned when a dev studios bought by a publisher, experience tells me only bad things come from that paring.

To bring some balance in, a lot of it seems to be that they do a a lot with a little. Small budget large games. They are however not as great as some seem to think. Not played technomancer or Mars. Bound by flame is linear, controls are off, story is rubbish, no interactions. It’s not bad, but it’s really not that great. Played greedfall and it’s not bad, had to turn of gsync and controls are not great, but it’s got a lot going for it. It’s like dragon age inquisition, if you liked that. To be honest I got bored about halfway through and stopped playing. If you get any of them cheap, and the £3 or £6 they are on now is a good value. We discussed them some time back:

So don’t go in expecting much and they are ok.
Great releases! ^_^

Indeed, it is usually the publishers that are the root causes of all the rotten shit that happens in this industry! I wish more Developers self-published much like CDPR!

I'm not trying to be a jerk... and somewhat agree with your point... but when you've played so few Spiders games -- and haven't played either of the games listed in this thread -- it really seems like your opinion is undermined by your lack of experience.

I'll take some janky English over poor/ham-fisted AAA games writing or those that try to make themselves sound smarter than they're actually end up being. Fits the gameplay. ;)
