This is a great game and a great addition to GOG. My hatred of all things Lucas softens slightly whenever I'm reminded of the majestic adventure of space combat that was the magnificent XWA.
I'm playing on a GT 610 and still get the same graphic glitches/stretching as before. A pity really. I had hoped they would fix that for Windows XP. Since it's still listed under the compatible OS. Other than that, it's of course a fantastic release. Couldn't hold my excitement and bought it right away.

Edit: I fiddled with all the Graphic options and only turning off Hardware 3D helped with the graphical errors. At least in the menu. The models there look fine. Once I get to the Hangar, everything just goes haywire. Weird colors, stretched or no textures at all, flickering fonts etc etc.

I tried it with the GOG Launcher, unmodded, and with the XwingAlliance.exe with the resolution fixes. With both I get the same results. With and without Hardware 3D.

I think you need to apply widescreen patches etc. yourself, GOG restricts tampering with games only to make them compatible on modern machines and OS's.

I see. Thanks for the reply. I'll apply xwahacker manually the same as before then.

Bought it, over the moon that it is here on GOG. Then boom, crashes every time I start a mission :(

Tried all sorts of tweaks to settings, and still no joy. Will keep trying and post a solution if I find one.

System is Win 7 64bit, 16gb RAM, Sapphire Radeon R9 280x 3gb, AMD FX-8350 CPU. ASUS Sabertooth R2.0 m/board.

I'll also try it on my Vista and spare Win 7 PCs tomorrow. Really want to play this game again, happy memories!

haydenaurion: So how good are these two newly release X-Wing games? Normally I would get an impression of them from Mobygames, but their site is down.

Crispy78: Personally I think Alliance is right up there with TIE Fighter as the best of the lot of them.
I agree. I fell in love with TIE Fighter and Alliance blew me away all over again.

I was a bit turned off by the lack of campaign in the release of X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, but the GoG version includes the expansion campaign. Also, I remember having a hard time playing over IP (never did try LAN) but I'm guessing with modern internet infrastructure this one is a lot better than I remember it.

If you're only getting one Alliance is where it's at. But let's be honest, your name is "hayden"aurion, your avatar is a Sith Lord and your tag is VADER TIME - you KNOW you're getting them all LOL ;)
Thanks GOG for bringing old Memories to us again! ;)

But one makes me sad: Why does my favourite Game XWing Alliance has no Support for the German Language???? The German Version sounds so much cooler to me:/ Will it be updated?

What about the other X Wing Games, will there be other languages?

Best Regards!

So I take it there's not as much single player content in that one? Hmmmm, might have to think about it, not to mention I might want to save some cash back for the next releases on Thursday.

Yes, I combined Darth with wrestler Vader, lol.
Nice!!
I still have the little 3 inch X-wing sold with the game; I'll keep it for ever and I'm glad to be play the game again
XWA on GOG, a dream come true.
I just found out this version actually does have a trench run available, but it's a fan made MOD hence it looks a little rough.
I have the same problem with the graphical glitches on XP, boxed version; so I won't be picking this up on GOG unless they fix it. Probably a display driver issue though. Good release, fond memories of this one. The boxed version does work without hardware acceleration for me on XP. So it is part functional.

JonathanRL: I am using the Geforce GTX 550 Ti
That's the card I have! Great card.
GOG.com, you are my heroes. Thank you for your service to humanity in releasing this absolute gem of a game!

I never thought I would see this re-released in a legitimate form. Thank you GOG.com for releasing it so that a wider audience can possibly experience what I did in my childhood: the stunning storytelling, the top-notch flight model, perhaps even multiplayer (not yet downloaded so I can't say if it works in this version or not).

May the Force be with you!
