Ranayna: Nope, not going to happen. Call me hardline in that regard if you want ;)

I already have enough ressource eating, always online crap on my machine, I will not add Galaxy to that.
And if that is all that is left of being "optional", well that is the straw that broke the camels neck, so to speak.

With that stance in effect, i will not buy new releases at GoG anymore.
I'm not going to call you anything. :) we all have our reasons. but you should at least try using Galaxy, see how it works for you.

It's not always online either. you only need to download games, and once you go online, it will auto-update them. but once auto-update is done, you can go back offline and play any game on your Galaxy. or even without Galaxy running.

tinyE: If someone is having trouble getting through the prologue it must be a Cossacks game. :P
Ha, I have problems getting past installer of Cossacks 2, let alone prologue!

Caesar.: Lately I'm finding waiting 2-3 years for a Gold/Complete/GOTY edition is totally fine. But that's another story.

ped7g: Exactly, and if I'm particularly interested into actually playing the game (lately I found out I'm hoarding the games here on the GOG without even installing them ... in hundreds...), I'm also waiting for linux version, or confirmation that wine handles it really well. SF3 at the moment doesn't fit any of that (no linux, and the limited demo didn't work with wine), but *congrats to developers for releasing* a game, I know how hard that is and especially before the successful release the required effort is huge. Maybe I will buy it few years later.
Well...Xmas is close and it has to be released :)
I would like to play now too, but experience teach me it pays to be patient..saved a lot...at least mind&inner peace ;)

markrichardb: Do we really need to gamify the experience of playing a game?
avatar
Olauron: [irony]
We need to gamify the experience of gamifying the experience of playing a game. It means that GOG should add GOG-achievements that rely on game-achievements.
[/irony]
I know it was meant as a joke, but... It is NOT funny! Steam is doing this already! Your profile there has a level. You can raise your level by crafting badges. To craft badges you need cards. Cards drops are basically the same as achievements (for playing the game X hours).

falloutttt: But that's no fun for people that don't play chess or similar games, I can understand that.
I do play chess and similar games, but see no point in achievements. But to each their own. I personally wouldn't downrate a game just because it doesn't have 'cheevos', but I'd let the devs know - repeatedly - what I thought of their two-tiered approach to their customer bases on different services. I also wouldn't buy on the service that doesn't have the features - and let the devs and the service know why as well.

But to me, a game review is about the game itself. Not something superfluous that's tied to it. That's kind of like low rating a game for lack of Steam, for no collector's edition, or for not liking the box art.
Well, there are patches now. But guess what, only if you have at least version 1.08!
The version 1.01 (ironically titled Final #2), i downloaded the day after the release is useless now.
I will see if there is again a patch tomorrow, if so, the parts i manage to download todaty will again be useless...

I will stay with my decision, with the way patches are handled, GoG is useless for new releases.
Not sure, I have for example Grim Dawn here, and it patches very well, maybe with 1-2 day delay, but nothing dealbreaking so far. Maybe the problem is not on GOG side, but on developers'?
Actually, compared to, say, Steam or EA with its Origin (especially EA tho), GOG never failed me yet.

And of course now 1.11 has been released, the whole installer has been updated, and i can throw away half my download...
Seems i will have to wait for the weekend.

But, on the bright side: All so far released patches are still up.

Please keep in mind that, as of right now, Spellforce 3 is getting multiple updates per day. We can't make the patches any faster when there are updates coming in rapid succession...
In this case though, it's not about the frequency of patches. It's the fact that on every update, the main installer is also updated right away, making it impossible to fully download with a slow connection.

I realize that very likely there is an automated process, that can't, or rather do not want to interrupt. But you have to realize yourself that the initial situation with no patches at all is not really satisfying.

I guess there is no chance of getting a 1.01 to 1.08 patch? ;)

It would be great if you keep patches for a longer time. I have not tried downloading them through Galaxy backup feature but GOG Downloader enters in infinite downloading if the file is deleted while it is downloaded.

So you can move to Steam, where you _have_ to use the client for everything and have the client running to play your games. Or just launch Galaxy every now and than to update your games. Galaxy can update any version you have to the latest one without downloading the whole game. You don't have to have galaxy running to play your GOG games, but it's an easy way to update all of them. But of course the choice is yours...
