The space-captain's guide to the galaxy.

UPDATE: The 24-track original soundtrack for Space Rogue, composed by Vladislav Isaev and Elena Isaeva, is now available for purchase.

Space Rogue, an intense rogue-lite of open exploration, strategy, and plenty of space-panic, is available now for Windows and Mac, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements. Owners of the like-minded FTL get a 25% discount on Space Rogue until September 17!

Being a lone spaceship pilot, frequenting the cantinas and space-casinos, is a pretty cool gig, but you haven't known adventure until you get yourself a crew and a bigger ship. Because when you boldly go where no captain has gone before, the giant space monsters, pirates, and random events that you'll encounter won't go easy on you. You may even end up becoming a pirate yourself, but no matter your path, there are plenty of intense ship-to-ship battles, crucial recruitment decisions, and quests to navigate in this chaotic, ever-changing universe. The end destination is yours to determine, but you'll need your crew's help, if you hope to have any chance of success. On this playthrough, at least.

Negotiate the dangers and excitement of being a free-roaming Space Rogue, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 25% discount for owners of FTL will last until September 17, 1:59 PM UTC.

skeletonbow: Sadly, 3D games do not generally work out too well in VMs, at least not to my experience. I believe VMware is the most robust in this regard but still primitive compared to native. On the Linux side of things I don't believe any of the hypervisors provide decent 3D support. It's also worth noting that a lot of games people would consider to be 2D are actually 3D because they use the 3D engine for special effects etc. So it's real hit and miss for now with modern 3D-using games in VMs. :/
Seems to be very bleeding edge atm, but hopefully, doable without much hassle within a couple of years:

eiii: You also can try to run the games under Wine. A lot of GOG games run quite well with Wine, maybe even better than in a Windows VM. You can check this thread.
On top of that probably all the games which use dosbox also run on Linux, even when they do not come with official Linux support from GOG.
Yeah, I should probably take a look at Wine/PlayOnLinux too.

I tend to prefer universal solutions to ad-hoc ones (if I'm not mistaken, I believe Wine support is very much per game), but sometimes, you don't get to choose.

There's always Windows. =P

Na, I'm done with Windows. They might have kept me as a user 6 years ago if they hadn't charged 300$ for Visual Studio + 1000$ for Windows server (which was a lot of money for me at the time) and if they had done a better job at supporting the open-source infrastructure I was interested in using at the time as opposed to their own internal solution (can't remember what it was called).

Microsoft is not as bad as Apple in that department, but their end goal is still similar: lock a captive market in their platform where they provide/dictate every component and then suck money out of the user at every turn. It certainly make for a very cohesive experience, but also one that is much pricier and much less flexible.

I mostly work with open-source software and it tends to work best on Linux and Unix variants. Linux is where the bulk of my professional expertize is at this point. It's were I spend the bulk of my time and booting my computer with anything else is a hassle.

Saw "Space Rogue". Got excited. Immediately disappointed that it wasn't the old Origin game, as, I see, are a few others in this thread.

One day we'll get that back. I want to run errands for Cebak and Tiwa again.

That would be nice, the old Origin Systems was one of the greatest PC developers...
Looks like both the name and the gameplay are jacked from other games. Some might even say "pirated". I guess the devs at Redbeat didn't think it was worth spending the money on the license from either Subset or Origin systems. I guess they figured since they could use it for free, they might as well take advantage of the situation.
