The space-captain's guide to the galaxy.

UPDATE: The 24-track original soundtrack for Space Rogue, composed by Vladislav Isaev and Elena Isaeva, is now available for purchase.

Space Rogue, an intense rogue-lite of open exploration, strategy, and plenty of space-panic, is available now for Windows and Mac, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements. Owners of the like-minded FTL get a 25% discount on Space Rogue until September 17!

Being a lone spaceship pilot, frequenting the cantinas and space-casinos, is a pretty cool gig, but you haven't known adventure until you get yourself a crew and a bigger ship. Because when you boldly go where no captain has gone before, the giant space monsters, pirates, and random events that you'll encounter won't go easy on you. You may even end up becoming a pirate yourself, but no matter your path, there are plenty of intense ship-to-ship battles, crucial recruitment decisions, and quests to navigate in this chaotic, ever-changing universe. The end destination is yours to determine, but you'll need your crew's help, if you hope to have any chance of success. On this playthrough, at least.

Negotiate the dangers and excitement of being a free-roaming Space Rogue, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 25% discount for owners of FTL will last until September 17, 1:59 PM UTC.

skeletonbow: Wow! Hmm, are you telling me.... this might be... an indie game that *cough* supports 2560x1600? :)
Actually, is there a list of games which support high res?

Everything else sounds interesting enough to dig deeper & buy later but save/reload is make or break.
Yeah, I would like to know this too. 'Even FTL had some kind of save feature.

No, but I have a spreadsheet here that I'm keeping track of them in for the games I own, and I have a GOG Mix for them also however I haven't updated it in quite some time and really need to do that. :)

https://www.gog.com/mix/games_that_fully_support_2560x1600_resolution_properly

I made the mix a long time ago and never got much feedback about it and couldn't find it because GOG doesn't have any top level way to navigate it or user profile sub-page or anything. I had to search for it with a search engine to find it just now. :)

My spreadsheet has several dozen games, or roughly about 50% of all of the games I've installed and tested.

Oh well. I remember hearing and reading about that 1989 Space Rogue, but I never played it.
I thought that game too...
At least this space rouge game is also interesting.

That was my first thought too. I think I played and completed that Space Rogue on the Amiga. Don't recall much of it, but probably thought that it was worth it.

Can you please post it? I'm buying a new PC on a budget and knowing what graphic card to buy is critically important, which in turn depends on monitor resolution.

I can't post my spreadsheet as it has all sorts of private personal information etc. scattered in it, but I can update the GOG mix. If there's enough interest in the finer details though I could start a public spreadsheet and seed it with the relevant bits of my data though sometime. For resolution, currently my spreadsheet documents the game's lowest and highest choosable resolutions as show up on my own system, which is as high as I can personally test, so I only register up to 2560x1600. Some games likely support beyond that to 4k or more also however. So I log the lowest and highest resolutions, but I also log what I consider the highest playable resolution in terms of stability and playability (not framerate). By playability I generally mean that the fonts, HUD elements and other visual aspects are easy enough to see and play without squinting or being unable to read something. It's partially subjective but I try to go for worst case scenario. If a game completely crashes at a certain resolution then I drop it down until it works etc.

I'm also testing multi-head configurations on some games but that's a much more complex arrangement that would be rather unique to one's own personal setup, The WSGF site is generally the best resource for that sort of information on games though.

Starmaker:
I've updated my GOG mix with most of the games I know run reliably in 2560x1600 (on my system of course). There are many many more that I've played but have not yet played since I started the spreadsheet. I'll be updating it regularly over time though and try to remember to keep the GOG mix updated.

I find it odd that on the day it's released here it's the daily deal at chrono.gg for $13
Bought it, not bad, very simple game play, auto saves, you carn't pick to save.
Battles are very simplistic, fire at the weapons bay at the same time fire at the shield, shampoo.....
With more time in game i hope it gets a lot more complex, as using the same tactic is shit.
Music is pretty twee, graphics are crisp, way to much coloured text for my liking, but coping with it.
One prob so far is the screen reso won't change i seem to be stuck at 1920-1080.
Have a fiddle with the config file once i've found it.
Seems changing the config file does sweet fa, the game reverts too 1920...poopz.

LOL gog avatar appears in the top corner of the game...

I do not really understand this part of the description of the game on the game page:

"More than 200 random events and quests (and that's just the beginning!) "

Beginning of what? What else is there (only one more bullet point actually)? Does it mean there are more than more than 200 random events and quests?

"And we haven't even started milking it yet !"

adaliabooks: I'm confused... it's not made by the same people as FTL, so why the discount?
Are they just banking on the people interested in FTL wanting this?
Probably, FTL players (like me) will be more tempted to replay good ol' FTL than to buy a new FTL clone. Anyway, I might still give it a try...

It means wait till you get another 200 in an upcoming DLC! Yay!
