Where syndicates reign supreme...

Satellite Reign an open world, modern spiritual successor to Syndicate, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with full support for GOG Galaxy achievements and leaderboards! Blow past the corporate ladder at 20% off for the first week.

If you asked half the crew at GOG.com what their favorite game of all time is, a good chunk of us would say Syndicate. While the dirty cyberpunk settings and hard-as-nails gameplay did give us years and years of classic gaming to come back to, Satellite Reign may just be the breath of fresh, corporate espionage air that we've been waiting for.
Satellite Reign, from the very days of its conception, was a modern Syndicate in everything but the name. A gritty cyberpunk world ruled by malicious megacorps, and a squad of professionals prepared to take down the system. You'll get to roam around a huge and filthy, open-world city which isn't just cool, but also gives you a fantastic tactical freedom in how you tackle each mission - there is no one right way to achieve your ends. Between tons of high-tech goodness and customization, there is an ever-present Syndicate feel to the game with one unquestionable improvement - freedom, freedom is in the musty air.

For more Satellite Reign goodness, you can also pick up the Original Soundtrack, Art Book, and a prequel Novella!

Return to the Syndicate, in spirit, with Satellite Reign, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com The launch promo will last until Friday, September 4, 13:59 PM GMT.
Looks pretty awesome. But I guess I'll wait to hear about bug fixes first.

Gydion: Many devs and GOG lied. Let's go with that (+1 for Crimson's persistence).
Thanks for that! Never knew DF added GOG keys for Broken Age. I just redeemed mine now :D

JMich: From what I recall, GOG will give out GOG keys, as long as no other keys are given with the product.

JMich: Not sure I understand the question. I recall reading the comment on GOG's forum, but not sure if it was a blue that posted it, or a publisher.
Is it GOG not wanting the dev/publishers to give out both a GOG key & a Steam key or are the dev/publishers not wanting to give out both a GOG key & a Steam key? In the first case GOG is requesting it, which seems odd to me, and the second the dev/publishers are requiring the users to pick which key.

GOG is the one with said request. And it's not GOG and Steam, it's GOG and another distribution platform. At least from what I recall.

Actually with both GOG and Steam key you could potentially let two people play at the same time if you use one key and a friend uses the other key. So I'm not sure giving out two keys makes much sense. It's probably better the publisher makes the backer/user pick one.

Nirth: GOG signs contracts with publishers. Maybe publishers demand them to be sold separately so GOG has to accept it if they want the games here at all. I wonder though how much they would really lose if they compensated for paid extras.
avatar
Trilarion: Can you imagine that GOG once sold whole games plus extras for $6? Now even a soundtrack is sold for more.
And we still do this :) Just because newer games have soundtracks for sale doesn't mean we are going to make the old games the same way :) Keep in mind that these days the OSTs are made by independent artists, for the most part, and that's why soundtracks are sold the way they are :)

No less sense as giving out a Steam key + Drm-Free copy I imagine and that happens a lot.

Since they are sold seperately, it would be nice if we would be allowed to buy them without owning the game, perhaps we just want to listen to some music and support the artist :P

The best thing I can recommend is to make a site feature wishlist entry then :)

deonast: I can't answer for how receptive GOG is to providing keys. But I would expect a small unknown developer would have a harder time getting pre-approval from GOG to to be on their store and offer keys before a kickstarter has even finished. Larger studios with a track record and relationships with GOG might be able to do it, but I doubt it would be so easy a proposition for smaller ones. If you can't guarantee GOG will distribute it you simply can't for legal or ethical reasons say it will be on GOG during your kickstarter.
Wouldn't it be the same with Steam? You cannot promise Steam keys before you know the game is accepted by Steam? Or does Steam accept every game?

Do you remember what game it was for? Assuming it was in the release thread I will see if I can find the post.

No idea unfortunately, as it has been some time. I think it was a kickstarted game, but no other details that I can recall :(

Can't say for sure but what I've seen is of late steam accepts a lot of games out side of greenlight and even with greenlight the process is pretty quick these days.

I understand and even think it is a good thing that one can buy the soundtrack separately (although currently you cannot do it without the game, right?). But I also think it's still too expensive. Even if done by independent artists I would value it below a downloadable music album of a well known band which ranges between $5 and $10. I guess at this rather high price level not many people will buy the extras and the whole thing would be more profitable if the prices were lower because of larger number of sales. But of course this is only an opinion and there are frequent sales on GOG but I may have forgotten about the game's soundtrack until then.

What I liked about the early GOG were the bundles (games plus extras) with quite good prices. They sounded optimally and it felt like GOG really cares to make a nice package for the customer. And if you did not want them the price for the game was also fine.

Sure I could just buy the game plus the extras (in this case here for quite a lot of money) and there is even a button on the game page where I can add all the extras and the game to my shopping cart in one go (buy series) and it even displays the total price but somehow it doesn't feel like a bundle of the old time.

Anyway what I wanted to say is: Soundtrack Samples. This feature idea by mkell226 has not yet got enough attention.

http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/soundtrack_samples
"Brief samples of tracks; availability and quality of soundtracks sometimes influences decision to purchase; some are even better than the games themselves!"

With this feature I might be more inclined to pay extra for the extra. :)

Everyone who wants Soundtrack Samples too, please vote!
