I wanted to like this game, but as I recall playing it made me nauseous. I have the same issue with Wolf3D. Still, it's really cool they made a new episode to an old game like this. Cool release.

EnginEight: Some times dual pistols is better to stun enemies with other sounds... But yes, this is very specific shooter. Not for all.

idbeholdME: The MP40 has a higher rate of fire, so it was still better at locking down enemies than the dual pistols. The moment you find the first MP40, the rest of the game is spent holding down the fire button with it, occasionally mixing in a couple shots from a launcher weapon before you run out and it's back to MP40.

This game gave me enough MP40 to last for a life time.
Pistol(s) does more damage than mp40 - 13 vs 10 per shot, which means that 2-4 shots for simple opponents will be enough. While shooting from mp40 is not so accurate at medium and long distances.
For fat enemies, in close combat - like an enforcer - mp40 is the best choice. But only for him...

Berzerk2k2: It's not just "a new level". It's a new episode with 23 levels.
Thank you for explaining. I misunderstood that. That makes the price for this version a lot more reasonable.

TheBigCore: First, greatly improved support for Gravis Ultrasound, which is generally regarded as the best sound and music quality for Rise of the Triad: Dark War.

Second, the original Dosbox that comes with GOG releases of DOS games is very old and slow. If you're playing not only Rise of the Triad, but many other DOS games, you'll have the added benefit of being able to play those games with greatly improved CPU-emulation speed. For example: https://dosbox-staging.github.io/downloads/release-notes/0.75.0/#64-bit-dynamic-recompilation-svn.
Honestly, I'm not sure what I used for the sound. Just remember that it sounded "fine". Both the music and sounds.

park_84: A while ago I was playing the original and I found a bug that prevented me from beating the final boss, a timing issue that made that fight impossible.
The thing is, I discovered that bug because I was frustrated with that fight, so I watched a walkthrough on YouTube and found out that my game wasn't doing what it was supposed to be doing, it was broken. Also, if I could have beaten that boss, I wouldn't have thought anything of it, just that it was a difficult fight, so who knows if I went through some other anomaly while playing and didn't realise it.

This happened on Linux and I can't remember which version of DOSbox, then I moved my saved game to another computer running on Windows and another version of DOSbox, and there I was able to finish the game easily.

I say this in case anyone finds anything strange while playing a DOSbox game, be aware that there may be problems like this.
That fight is just dumb. It is more likely that after you moved the save, you accidentally played in a way that allowed you to damage the boss. It took me some time to realize the final boss'... let's call it "mechanic", but I finished the game fine in the "out of the box" GOG version.

Although I'm not sure whether you mean the boss' first phase (where he is still humanoid) or the 2nd one. In both cases, it's some of the most unintuitive design I have ever seen. For the first phase, it was just pure happenstance, for the 2nd, I spent a good hour or two there wondering what I was doing wrong before finally loading a save at the start of the level after realizing the mechanic.

Funny how the game has one of the best boss fights of the 90s FPS games (NME) and simultaneously the worst (the final boss).

I was playing on the hardest difficulty, so locking down enemies by rate of fire was always more desirable. They can take a beating on that difficulty and way more than 2-4 pistol shots. And the MP40 did seem accurate enough to use in pretty much every scenario. But from what I understand, the accuracy depends on the character you pick (I played as Taradino).

I tried using the pistols a couple times, went back to the MP40 pretty much immediately every time I tried as there were exactly 0 scenarios where they would have been preferable and eventually just embraced the non-stop PFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPF...

I played as IP Freely, but seems to me - whese two characters have the same aiming skill.
And if I use pistols on low threat enemies, they died much easies...

Yesterday - I purchased LE, but not played long to see the differences about characters, if it be.
Wishlisted!

I'm happy that we also got this version here, and without the usual wait that that entails. I already got the original, which, if my memory serves me well, was actually one of the very fisrt games I got through GOG, quite a long time ago now. Thou I too think the price is a "bit" too steep. Which is something I keep on seeing happening with similar cases (sadly Chasm: The Rift immediately comes to mind).
But oh well, I'm still just glad that we got this version here too (I'll just have to wait longer to get it I suppose).
