Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™, a remaster of one of the greatest Lucasfilm adventures, is available now on Windows - DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™ is often considered the greatest Lucasfilm adventure game ever made. In-game spitting contests, and the "Ron Gilbert - Tim Schafer" duo's trademark humor are only part of the reason why. This special edition is the most complete, definitive way to experience the game, and the reason for that is choice. One more, the team at Lucasfilm overhauled their baby completely: you can play the game with all-new high resolution art, voice-overs by the original Monkey Island cast, a renewed soundtrack, and a modern interface. Do you have to? Nope! The original experience is just one-click away - toggle between original pixelated glory and its modern reimagining at whim. Or you can pick and choose your features. If you prefer original graphics with voice-overs (or if you'd like to hear Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman chat about their game for a few hours) that's no problem at all - that's just how remakes should be done.

Swashbuckling and misadventure ensue in Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, March 26, at 1:59 PM GMT.

timppu: - In order to enjoy the MI + MI2 originals, you should use Roland emulation (MUNT). Too bad GOG can't officially provide that. The originals are painful to listen to with Adlib/Soundblaster music. The game music in the originals was designed for Roland MT-32, and that's it.
Personally, I preferred the Redbook Audio versions for MI1 more (eg. , [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkQDCDolkB8]2, 3) but, for MI2, I completely agree.

For anyone who hasn't heard Monkey Island 2 via MT-32, here's the title theme, MT-32 playback.
They release this great game and the only thing people do is complain and moan that it isn't the original. Oh this gets tedious...

timppu: For me this is the most exciting of today's releases.

I don't really think it is that important for GOG to try to get the originals (MI + MI2) to GOG, because:

- At least the first MI Special Edition seemed to quite faithful to the original, when you switched it to the classic mode. IMHO good enough way for most people to experience "the original".

But, I guess it is fine too if GOG is able to bring the originals here too. I just feel there is a very limited number of people who are really after them.
The originals are much easier to run on other OS's than Windows.
MINE!

I'm predisposed towards AdLib for Monkey 2... drums and melodies sound great on the MT-32, but the moody tracks sound way better with AdLib imo (compare the opening sweeps).

Azrael360: My favorite point&click game of all times ^_^
yup among other classics (maniac mansion, day of the tentacle, zak mckracken and more games that looked and played like these)

just bought

monkey island™ 2 special edition: lechuck’s revenge™
zak mckracken and the alien mindbenders
loom™
the dig®

already had the first SE game aswell
The rest of the releases are very much appreciated, but like with the first game - where's the original version?

I know you can switch back to the original graphics, but the beloved (to some) iMuse system is still borked. The original version should be available, either as a bonus (in the manner of the Broken Sword games) or as a separate release (in the manner of Wings!).

EDIT: And the opening credits sequence is missing, even if you play in 'classic' mode. Another reason the original should be there as an option.

Do you have any quotes to back that up or is it just your opinion?

Now if we could get Monkey Island 3 here...
Thank you Thank You THANK YOU! Now you 're talking! Great, now, what about that Monkey Island 3 and 4? We want complete series, Yarr!!
Whoever wants the Monkey Island originals, vote here:

Though it'd be very nice to have the originals as bonuses, if necessary maybe there could be a separate $9.99 bundle with the originals, released when Monkey Island 3 appears.
I got the first monkey island SE from the insomnia sale and built the ultimate talkie. It's pretty nice, but I gather that the Ultimate Talkie for MI2 misses key features like iMUSE, so am probably not going to get this one at least until it gets outrageously discounted. The voiceovers were nice, but I'll stick with MI2 from my Bounty Pack CD set for now.

I'm pretty sure the Ultimate Talkie of MI2 features the original iMUSE MIDI soundtrack.
Agreed. We need the originals untouched: Monkey 1 and 2. Just like Loom , Sam & Max or The Dig. The "special edition" is awful in so many ways.
