The Human Empire strikes back.

Imperium Galactica, an ambitious mix of traditional 4X gameplay with real-time combat, resource gathering, and FMV, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount!

The fourth millennium finds humanity in a precarious position: spread all across the galaxy but also facing severe social unrest, we've become an easy target for imperialistic alien races. Dante Johnson, a young upcoming Lieutenant, is called upon to help push back the threat and strengthen humanity's position.
You are first tasked with securing a small sector, but soon your impressive feats will let you expand your domain and eventually become a Grand Admiral who can single-handedly decide the outcome of intergalactic conflicts. To get there, you must exhibit excellent commanding skills, both in combat and resource management, an aptness in diplomacy, and a good grip on the economic realities of the regions under your command. Good luck, Lieutenant.

Rise in power and gradually establish your formidable Imperium Galactica -- DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 20% discount will last until December 23, 1:59 PM UTC.
Nice release! I was always a bit angry to myself when I didn't buy IG (retail) when I had the chance. I have IG2 already.

This fixed it then, now I can have the first game too. Digital version of IG2 would be nice too so that I don't have to use the multi-CD retail version.

EDIT: Aaaand bought.

Let's hope this means that one of the absolute gems in RTS 4x, IG2 will follow soon!

KAMOTHATHAN!

EDIT: Wishlisted. Will buy with the next sale that includes progress points. IG2 will be instabuy though.

Whoot! Can't wait for IG2 to come here. I've spent lots of time playing the demo as a kid, but I could never lay my hands on the full version :D

Silverhawk170485: Does this game only have a Campaign Mode? I never played this game before. When I saw it I expected something different, a 4X game. But the game is leaded by a story where things happen always at a specific time. There is almost no randomness in it.

Edward_Carnby: As far as I remember - yes .
But when you reach Grand Admiral rank - there will be almost absolute freedom with all game features & entire map available.
You can only play in Campaign mode. You start at the lowest rank and with lowest area (quadrant) of space and just small squadron of ships available to you to perform strictly defined duties. Then you're promoted, your responsibilities grows as grows the size of map availabie and things you can do (for example you'll be able to build new ships or upgrade your planet colonies). And so on and again, eventually you'll be promoted to Grand Admiral with every single game option available to you.

...unless you fail in the meantime, of course :)

yoshino: Having played Master of Orion 1/2 recently, I'm interested this title.
How do compare this game with MoO1/2? Seems like this game is RTS not turn based game.Right?
avatar
Edward_Carnby: It's more like story driven version of Pax Imperia (so yes - realtime with pause).
It's rather scripted before you reach Admiral rank, but after that - real 4x strategy game begins. =)
Yes, it's scripted but it's not like you don't have some choices what to do earlier.

I love both MoOs and I strongly recommend IG, be warned however this games offers no replayability (as MoOs do). You finish it once, you've seen it all. Now the amount of time you'll need to - hopefully - joyfully waste to finish whole campaign (i.e. game) is another thing... :D
I'm only wishlisting this one, but keep them coming. Imperium Galactica II was my favorite 4x game ever, I'm saving my instabuy for that one.
I still have the boxed originals of both IG and IG2. Perhaps two of my favourite 4X space games of all time and I still play them every so often.

They are indeed the definition of classic "Good Old Games" as far as I'm concerned , so I'll be buying IG here as a matter of principal, plus IG2 once I imagine GoG gets that here too. Fingers crossed!

ThomNG: Enjoy this awesome classics release :) Wish you a wonderful weekend, dear GOG community!

Vovchigus: Where is mac port? :-( Any hopes to get an official one from you, guys?
It is weird that there's no OS X or Linux port since IG 1 is a DOS game, but that still doesn't mean you can't buy the game and enjoy it on your Mac.
WOW, i remember spending countless hours on IG2
havent played ig1 but maybe i shoud pick it up since i only played the second one.

I'll shit bricks if IG2 will be available here! :O

Much the same for me - Imperium Galactica 2 is still a fantastic gem of a 4* even with its faults - I'll certainly pick this game up given time! (hopefully not too much time till after funds recover after christmas)
Instant buy of course! Thank You so much! Waiting for the next one :)

My childhood gaming shelf is slowly becoming playable again - thank you Nordic! Better yet, its DRM-free! Hope IG2 heads this way as well.

For what it's worth, support like yours of old-title releases, fan projects, and DRM-free releases does influence my gaming dollars - I added a few Nordic titles to my wishlist today in way of thanks!

PS - GoG, I'm praying for MechWarrior and Fading Suns still!

When IG2 was released I used to play the demo for hours. But I never actually saw the game in the stores.

Seems to be a GOG exclusive digital release. I couldn't find it on Steam. :D
