History Lessons

A new batch of Paradox Strategy titles comes to GOG.com, just in time for yet another floor of the Bundle Tower! That's Europa Universalis II, Europa Universalis: Rome Gold and Hearts of Iron II: Complete - our bundle of History Lessons!

Europa Universalis II is very much like the original title - but with a longer timeline, hundreds of new provinces and playable countries, and even more detail combined with quality of life improvements. It's the sequel to the award winning (and groundbreaking) strategy title that's spawned so many of Paradox Entertainment's future games - including the two released today.
One of EU's direct descendants, Europa Universalis: Rome Gold also known simply as Rome, brings the familiar gameplay into 250 years of Roman history, with a few twists like a fully 3D-map, and a story that can start all the way back in the year 27 B.C. The Gold release also includes the Vae Victis expansion pack.
Hearts of Iron II: Complete, like any Paradox sequel, is both deeper and more streamlined than the previous entry, offering an all-around improved hour-by-hour World War 2 grand-strategy simulation full of historical detail, and tactical depth. Small-scale invasion scenarios to all out global war - this one has you covered.

Learning history has never been more fun, than with the Bundle Tower History Lessons, available now 75% off on GOG.com!
Is Armageddon for HoI2 included in one of the other two install files? Because I don't see it anywhere on my shelf.
I was able to buy this bundle without dipping in my phone funds, I decided not to buy the men of war bundle.

Should I wait to play EU 2 and HOI 2 until I get the first ones?

Gandos: Right, that makes sense. Personally, though, I was quite glad when Paradox switched to composing original tracks for their games, especially since Andreas Waldetoft has been doing such a phenomenal job as the composer of their games. The HoI II soundtrack in particular is excellent.
Waldetoft is great, but he always sounds too epic to me - like a movie score. This game's music spoiled me, and many people still swear by it. Have a listen on YT, nothing out there is quite like it.

They're strict improvements. The old ones are obsolete. The story's the same, too ;)

If they had included the soundtrack with EU2 would have been an insta-buy. Did they not include it because of licencing? :/

How does licencing for 15th century music work anyway?

Iirc the ingame soundtrack are normal .mp3 or .ogg files in the game directory. At least it's like that in the newer Paradox games.

Gandos: It doesn't help that HoI II Complete lacks the Iron Cross expansion. Granted, that is a fan-made expansion and not a Paradox release, but it's still a shame that it isn't included. =/
HO2 Complete never included the Iron Cross fan expansion which was published by Paradox. Its quite possible though that gog will release it some time later separately.

Or they combine it with Arsenal of Democracy. I think Iron Cross worked with that game as well.

Well, to be fair, he makes soundtracks for grand strategy games...you either go big or go home, you know? :P

Anyway, I'll definitely check out EU Ii's soundtrack. In fact, like I said, I'll probably just bite the bullet and check out the game itself.

The music itself is public domain, but the specific performances used for EUII are not. Kind of like how the original Alice in Wonderland is in public domain, but the copyright for the various movie adaptations belongs to their respective companies.

Yeah it has support for both Ho2 Complete or Arsenal of Democracy.

I'm aware that HoI2 Complete never included it, but then again, Iron Cross didn't exist yet at the time HoI2 Complete came out. I just figure that, now, they could bundle them together.

That....would be interesting indeed. Iron Cross does indeed work with Arsenal of Democracy. So I guess we could see an Arsenal of Democracy Gold? =P

I fear that's precisely the reasoning he was going with. Sweeping epics work for tercios and cavalry charges, not maps, pawns, and income ledgers ;)

If they release AoD which i certainly hope. But i'm not sure about Iron Cross because they only released it on GamersGate and not even on steam.

Yeah, people were asking for a steam release of Iron Cross years ago but paradox said: "Zero chance". Still crossing fingers for a gog release eitherway.
