Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

paladin181: I was downvoted and said no such thing. Just that these non-games are here after a long time of gag resisting. And that this place is still a deathtrap. Which has nothing to do with this series of releases as it is a general observation of the state of their broken site.

Not that I truly care about downvotes. I get far more upvotes and neutral posts. It was just an observation that there are some easily offended people jumping on posts without fully reading or understanding them. That's all.
I get you it was a suprise to me that GOG have released them after numerous times in the past that they have said we dislike VNs. Its good to see that they have changed their stance though.

I agree with you that they do need to fix alot of their site and forums, but at least they are alot more open, and exact and the community is alot less toxic than Steam.
While I generally don't enjoy Visual Novels, this gives me hope that we might see Choice Of Games and Hosted Games make their way to these hallowed halls.

This is the announcement I've been waiting for!

VNs on GOG. God bless! Liberate me from the DRM-hell that is Steam more and more.
I remember seeing a VN adaptation of the Alice in Wonderland book on Steam that was well received, but it seemed more like anime characters acting out the scenes straight from the novel than an actual game.
Now please add Hidden Objects Adventures and Casual games . and ofcourse more store FILTERS to hide already owned items and clean up the mess.

Thank you.

To be fair, that's a category of it.
Added to GOG just as Steam is about to kick a bunch off of their site due to cow-towing to lobbyists.
looks like some baby boys are salty as fuck that qt anime games are starting to come to gog. I welcome this decision wholeheartedly as long as gog don't turn into a bunch of prudes. galgun and senran kagura games when?

Great to see high-quality DRM-free visual novels, they are hard to get by!

I've been hearing mixed messages from GOG about censorship though. Whatever you do, I would really appreciate if the uncensored version is always included in the store to get the full experience as it's the creators' original vision. Thank you!

I hope this means that we can see true uncensored games here. This could be the toll that boosts GOG above Steam who only believes in censorship. Just setup proper age check verification and let us buy games as they are meant to be. I still buy on Steam only for convenience but if you start carrying titles for all ages including adults than I will change that mind set as I am tired of purchasing games from those who have a censorship mind set. You sell games you should provide any type of game for all gamers.

I quit buying games on Steam after latest post as who wants to buy a game than suddenly find you can't download it or play it anymore after you spent hard earned money for it!

I am sick of Steam and want a real alternative.

I have heard literally the opposite; MangaGamer is one of the most staunchly anti-censorship VN distributors I'm aware of. Are you sure you're not thinking of someone else?

So Sekai Project /and/ Mangagamer had luck reaching out to gog, huh? I'd heard the idea was being considered with the current steam debacle but I didn't expect results this fast. Not bad a starting lineup on both sides either, the Sunrider series, regardless of how one views the true ending of Liberation Day is still a decent sci-fi story with actually good gameplay if you're into strategy games, plus the first game's free, while the Fault series is all ages from the start, in fact I'd say it's arguably one of the best arguments for how visual novels are not just created for the sake of perversion in Sekai Project's entire library, and the best option in my opinion if you don't count the amazing devil on g-string due to it's seemingly terrible name (it's a classical music reference, I promise) and high cost (20$ for the all ages steam cut, then another 20$ for the totally worth it voice acting dlc)

While Mangagamer's showed up with the Higurashi series, which is another case of high quality visual novels that were always intended to be an all ages release, and which is one of the more recognizable visual novel series to get an official english release due to having had a decently successful anime adaptation, as well as eden*, which...well, I'm quite sure if this world is worth living in, at least half the folks here have seen the original land before time, right? And I'm sure almost all of those who have, got a serious bashing in the feels the first time they saw it...I'd rate this game that level of moving, seriously.

All in all, good games, I mean, I wish Sekai Project had brought The Devil on G-string, and I'd like to think after the jimmies that were rustled by Maidens of Michael getting false flagged right off steam last month, Mangagamer releasing the all ages version to GOG would have been good publicity for visual novel fans who aren't also currently GOG users (especially since it's one of several vns you can't get all ages from their own site), but...still, I can very much see myself rebuying parts of my collection here when my wallet permits, and I'll definitely be postponing planned purchases on steam from these two companies until I've seen if those games make it over here too outside of potential bundle keys.

By the way, for anyone else who's been buying their vns on steam out of necessity, Fruitbat Factory just put up a good chunk of the vn based part of their library on itch.io, so that's good, as much as what's going on with Steam does have me worried if they don't backpedal fully and soon, due to the fact Steam does have such a large monopoly on pc gaming right now, and mass rejection off a major storefront can't possibly look good from a business perspective to the japanese, that it may cause some lasting damage to localization chances of other games, as there are several large companies who had in the past expressed serious concerns about western releases who only hopped onto the localization bandwagon after steam releases became a common practice.

Which, by the way, has me wondering...what are the chances of GOG okaying open distribution of uncensored versions? Probably not high, on the one hand, as they do accept paypal as a payment method and paypal does have rules against using it to pay for such content, and the only site with such content that takes paypal that I know of, dlsite, had to use a clunky, pain in the butt workaround involving only taking paypal for all ages content and to buy points for their point system which could be used to buy games, then having the points work on any part of the site, trust me, no one wants that, but on the other hand...having a basic and a plus edition both on the store front might work, just have the 'basic' edition be the all ages type releases we've been seeing on steam, and the 'plus' edition be a more expensive all ages, perhaps with some small extras like bonus wallpapers with a free, totally optional dlc that unlocks the original content, hell, put up the standard are you 18 years or older question popup on said dlc before downloading...I'd say have just one, more expensive all ages version with the free dlc, but some people aren't interested in the cut content, and it seems unfair to ask them to foot the bill for the rest of us, but given the fact that all ages versions of games not by english devs usually do have a 10$ or half the cost, whatever is cheaper price difference between all ages and uncut releases, I'm gonna assume it's a common contract expectation, so we can't do away with that, either.

I think you're thinking Moenovel, who, while Mangagamer does have If My Heart Had Wings, the first game to be horribly mangled by Moenovel on their storefront, it /is/ a 3rd party release, and is listed as such
