Europe goes to war.

Cossacks II Anthology, a grand strategy inspired by historical events, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 60% launch discount.

Our fair planet has never lacked for mass-scale conflict, but the 19th century European wars were truly a sight to behold. The nations of France, Russia, Prussia, Austria, Egypt, Duchy of Warsaw, Confederation of the Rhine, and Great Britain got locked in an extensive series of conflicts that forever changed the shape and power balance in the continent. As a commanding general of one of the warring nations, you will take control of massive armies and try to neutralize the enemy forces in real-time combat before they can fight back. As you rise in ranks, more and more types of troops will become available, and if you feel like re-creating some of history's most iconic skirmishes, like the Battle of Austerlitz or the Battle of Ulm, this is your chance to see how you'd fare, general.

Re-write european history and lead your huge armies to victory in the European battlefields of Cossacks II Anthology, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 60% discount will last for the duration of the Back to School Sale.

Themken: For a split second I thought it was Cossacks 3 being released here on GOG but no. I have played this one too little to really judge it properly( so here is some rope.)
avatar
Silverhawk170485: There still seem to be many bugs and problems with Cossacks 3 judging from the Steam reviews. So there is no problem that Cossacks 3 in not released now in my opinion. ;)
the problem is that people who wrote negative reviews about bugs refunded the game and never changed review. And there was 4 patches which fixed most of these bugs, but people still judge by reviews

4 patches in one day? The reviews aren't that old. The last bad one is only 8 hours old.

4 patches after release till today. The only recent bad review is about capturing walls which sounds pretty dumb as reason for negative review. And other helpful bad reviews mention N bugs which almost all are now fixed and future patches are coming. Anyway for my ~5 hours of playtime I didnt encounter any bug so its good game for me.
Has anyone bought this game here?
Is it a fixed version, that really works on the new systems or is it the same as the Steam version?
There are lots of bugs in the Steam version. For example you always get this message when you start the game: "You have changed game data. Internet game will not be possible.", when you didn't change any game data.
How does it compare to the first Cossacks which was imho simply amazing?

It's a more complex game compared to the first Cossacks. The gameplay is slower because of the realtime reloading of the weapons. It also has a morale system. Your troops will flee when their morale is down. So you always must have an eye on the morale of you soldiers.

If you like Cossacks 2 depends on if you like a more realistic gameplay with the result of being slower or if you prefer the first games with less realism but a faster gameplay.

Ok, Thanks for the clarification. Then I will put it on my wishlist. ;)

But I won't buy it on Steam. I don't like DRM. When it comes to GOG I'll buy it. I think untill then all remainig problems will be ironed out.

You need to have Direct Play installed.

Anyway, I bought the game, and I do have performance issues similar to the Steam version.

How do I install Direct Play? There is no option to enable it in my Windows 7 settings, I checked.

You should get a install Direct Play window when you are installing the game.

I tried with both Galaxy and regular download, no direct play window.
