Agarest: Generations of War ZERO, the Agarest prequel, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount!

Agarest: Generations of War ZERO, the prequel to the original trans-generational JRPG wonder, is making it's way to DRM-free PCs worldwide. As a compelling and innovative turn-based RPG, the Agarest series has also always been a unique kind of game - on your adventure, you'll build relationships with your female party members. By the time your story comes to an end, one of them will become the mother of your child - the culmination of your lifetime choices. The game’s Soul Breed system gives you the opportunity to influence each future generation of fighters as your offspring inherits the best of what you, and the partner of your choice, have to offer.
Agarest: Generations of War ZERO expands the original gameplay with new features like Vacation Days: a way to get to know your team a little better (and unlock a few outfits in the process), and a whole new multi-generational story to experience with great keyboard + mouse, or controller, support.

The future is in your hands, in Agarest: Generations of War ZERO - available now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The 50% launch discount will last for one week, until Tuesday, April 28, 9:59 AM GMT.
Only first game is grindfest, the prequel got more praise with balance between story and battles. As for that legendary introduction in original I agree that attacking boulder of stone in battle arena was kind of WTF but at least you can't fail as piece of stone is piece of stone - it won't attack, no will, no think.

I'm pretty sure he's a bot and only programmed to post that one line. Kind of like the movie Existenz when they are talking to an NPC and eventually it will just start repeating itself because it runs out of programmed dialogue.

Trilarion: And, how much strategy is really in the game?

HeDanny: I used to think I was ok with Strategy games. Then I got confused during the tutorial. That was certainly a first for me.

Spoiler:
in the original game's tutorial, you have to fight a boulder. a boulder. It just sits there. It is a boulder.

.. the boulder won.
Your comment and link made me laugh for a good two minutes non-stop. +1

JinseiNGC224: I played the heck out of this game, even if it seems like a grind fest at times. But it's still a lot of fun and the options are pretty open. The battles do take a while but that doesn't detract from their enjoyment.

I bought it, even after owning it on PS3! :)

I also hope the Agarest War 2 can come here, since this is now 2 out of 3!

Bring on more JRPG's!
Did you play the first one? How does it compare in grindyness? Is the story better told?

I agree with Siegor, this wins the thread so far. +1 from me as well. :)

I.. don't remember that in the movie. Buuut then I think I may have fallen asleep. Several times.. so Might have missed it.

I do remember several games poking fun at the same thing. I think even Final Fantasy has done it in at least one of their titles. My favorite however was unfortunately in a game I can not remember. I want to say Ephemeral Fantasia, but it wasn't that (I don't think).

There is this one particular NPC that when you talk to them, all they do is complain about how everyone he tries to talk to only has two or three things to say. While that was amusing enough, they play on it even further as the game is basically "groundhog day" (Like EF), so every day everyone says the same thing, but.. they have never actually said it before, because Groundhog day. If that was not enough, eventually you get to a point when you can extract people from the loop (EF, again) and the one NPC who complained all the time about everyone saying the same things all the time is one of the people you can rescue. They then become a party member, so the way he now sees the town from outside the loop (specifically the limited conversation) brings up some surprisingly deep, yet more importantly hilarious narrative.

Damn.. may be it was EF. Anyone played that recently, and can confirm?
When was this originally released? For some reason I think that it came out recently, wonder why there was a delay from the developer in getting it to GOG.

Ha! I take it you never played Ultima 3 where the most powerful and dangerous enemies in the game were the floor and grass. My party would be completely wiped out by the floor and grass all the time. I fought against the demons of hell but it was the floor that sent shivers up my spine...

[EDIT] I still have nightmares to this day... the grass - anything but the grass!

Its PC release was not until last April according to Steam. We only got the first title in the series this January. It also was Ghostlight's first GOG release, so I could imagine they were merely testing the waters with their first game here.

I've in fact only mostly played Zero on PS3, even though I own the whole trilogy. Seeing the games are so much alike I don't think they're all that different from one another. Maybe some battles go quicker than others, but overall it's still the same experience.

Keeps me busy, that's for sure ;)

I'm probably thinking of something else then with the name Agarest.
I heard that Ghostlight started editing out contents from Agarest 2 (yet to be released on GOG but already available on Steam). I really don't mind when the companies redact or edit the games to make them better or to adapt to a different culture, but people described the changes as if they butchered a significant part of the game.

Seeing how this game is a bit expensive, it's understandable that people got pissed off by getting less content. Let's hope they solve this issue of adding missing content (or alternative content) before releasing the game on GOG at least, because the Steam reviews completely discouraged me from even starting playing the game series.
nice dating sim gimmick, but romancing saga 2 was probably a better jrpg. too bad, it's still not properly translated.
I KNEW IT WOULD COME HERE IN TIME! Waiting was well worth it! Thanks GOG Love you

Now we just need AGAREST: GENERATIONS OF WAR 2 for the last one in the collection on the pc side :D
