ChrisG_: I don't actually have the game on Steam only read up on it and have not seen anything mention that yet but will keep an eye out.

SmollestLight: GOG users who already own Quake will automatically receive the new enhanced version with a free download.

GamezRanker: This will not replace the original versions, correct? As in, both will be available to those who own the game currently?
They didn't replace the original versions on Steam either. When you launch the game you're prompted to choose between the new version, the original version and the two expansion packs.

I suppose the most elegant way gog could handle this is to make the enhanced version a separate game in users' libraries.
Good. I bought it here the day it was released, and making the music work (properly) with a good source port has been a hassle.
Will play again with the new version, since I already loved the "thinkered with" original.
If we can keep the original version as a bonus download, that'd be nice.

Also, I'm surprised they can FINALLY sell the game with the soundtrack intact now.

SmollestLight: As you may have noticed, Quake® Enhanced (updated and visually enhanced version of the original) is available on Steam since Aug 19th. We're in talks with the publisher and have their confirmation that the GOG version of the update is currently being finalised, and will be available on GOG.COM. We'll be sure to let you know when that happens.

Thanks for the information. :)

BrianSim: I simply don't get the hype of releasing Windows only Kex / Unity versions of games that already have free high quality cross-platform source ports:-

Doom 1-2 : https://zdoom.org/downloads
Quake 1 : http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/download.htm
Quake 2 : https://quake.fandom.com/wiki/VkQuake2
Thanks for this BrianSim. Maybe you would like to post the info on the quake series forum:

I do haev a few questions about that:

1) Will the enhanced version be a separate product or will it be bundled with the original game?

2) If it is a separate product will you be able to buy each individually?

3) Do only current owners at release time get the enhanced version for free or will future buyers also get it if you decide to buy Quake at a later time?
honestly this can't come quick enough. ive been in the mood to play quake but have been too lazy to fart around with source ports and sound files.

and doom 64 would be welcome as well. and skyrim and doom 2016.

I'm of the opposite mind....if it weren't being given for free to current owners for free i'd likely not get it(unless maybe on sale), as I don't see the point buying a new version just to save me some time modding a game.
(well most games....a few games that require quite a bit of work to mod might tempt me, I admit)

Also yeah, it has a new episode, but then again there is plenty of free SP fan content out there. Still, it's nice to see it coming here for all those who want it, and i'm glad that it's free for owners of the current version.

If it's treated like on Steam, then:

1) Since it's an update to the original, it won't be a separate product. The remaster is a subfolder in the original's directory and either can be run by a single new launcher.

2) No. 10 bucks will get you both versions.

3) Refer to 1.

While I have the sound track anyway as I have the original on CD as well as the GOG release - many thanks for this, looking forward to what looks like slightly updated graphics and the new episode for sure. :)
