Spectrum_Legacy: Actually Doom 3 was consolidated on steam like the rest on Aug 10. You can buy it right now at 60% off for 4 bucks as a single entry "Doom 3" containing the original game + RoE expansion + bfgarbage edition.
If that is true, then my Steam library sure doesn't reflect it. The original entries for Doom 3, RoE and the BFG edition are all still there for me. Unlike Doom 1+2, where it's how it's supposed to be. >_>

SmollestLight: Here's the official statement from the game's publisher:
Developed by the award-winning id Software, Quake® is the ground-breaking, original dark fantasy first-person shooter that inspires today’s retro-style FPS games. Now, experience the authentic, updated, and visually enhanced version of the original. The GOG version of the update is currently being finalised and will be available to new and existing customers soon.
I wish I could downrate your lies. I don't even know why you'd post this, or Lust From Beyond, or any other lies you've posted in the past (GOG, not you specifically, Smollest).

Doom 3 is a single package containing 3 entries in the library, so it is as intended and described by bathesda in their news post. I.e. you cannot buy either of those 3 games/versions separately anymore, it's one store entry/package now.

Having 3 entries in the library saves bandwidth and drive space, as you don't have to download any unwanted bloat (that wouldn't be the case anymore with one big fat library entry).

It works the same with many other games and their respective packages even here on gog. E.g. Might & magic 1-6 package/store entry containing 6 separate games in the library, etc. Tbh nothing new really.

Exactly. I'm glad they they didn't change that. The alternative would be crazy. Who wants to install the BFG edition at the same time as the classic version?

I suppose they could consolidate everything under a single entry and then ask what you wish to install, specifically. That's what I'd prefer. As is it right now, it simply doesn't match what the news article tells me and createsconfusion. :/

You say that, but Blizzard makes you install Warcraft 3 Reforged to play Warcraft 3 classic if you own a legit copy. It's kinda scary to think there are people in the industry so disconnected yet have a place of power!

I don't get it - you think GOG willfully lies? Why? It's not like they would make a penny from that.

Right on the money, and as we can all see GOG have gotten nothing but trouble out of this whole thing.

It is more likely that someone on the other side of the fence opened their mouth to GOG and because they are only a minion, promised more than they could deliver, and GOG are just protecting that foolish contact. GOG of course need to keep industry folks onside in this difficult game of DRM-Free they champion. And even if it wasn't a minion, but someone higher up the publisher chain, who erred or was out-voted by others in the chain, for financial or difficulty reasons, GOG could still be protecting them. Bad mouthing Bethesda or Night Dive or whoever, is only going to win them some customers votes, while at the same time risk what may be a tenuous relationship with the game provider(s) involved.

We also know that devs and pubs play games with GOG and GOG customers at times, so I'd rather give GOG the benefit of the doubt, which is supported by pretty strong logic anyway, certainly in this instance.

GOG had nothing to gain by prematurely announcing the release of Quake Enhanced here, and everything to lose if it didn't happen. And with all the issues they have faced in the last year or two at least, you can imagine them being even more careful with their reputation, so hardly likely they would be careless or deliberately stupid. Probably they made the mistake of being too trusting, and doesn't that bite us all at times.

When you officially announce that the GOG version will be available to new and existing customers soon and over a year later there still hasn't even been any news from a single person (GOG team or Bethesda) then yes this was a lie. If you don't know that things will happen over the next few days then you better don't announce anything.

But honestly. Was it a lie for the sake of lying or just things went nuts, last minute problems? What is the simplest and most probable reason about the delay?

If not, you have a different deffinition about what a lie is. And in my opinion, lack of communkication is not lying exactly.

But well, whatever.

I think the problem is that they are still updating the Steam version, we'll prob won't see a release on GOG until they are done everything they can with the Steam release.
Yes, it may be that they only want to bother with doing a DRM-Free version once.

On the other hand, maybe it was far more popular than they thought it would be, and so they are currently milking it for all it is worth. And thanks to the behavior of many at GOG, they know they can count on some of those impatient folk to buy before it gets to GOG, where it will likely be a free update for those who already have Quake here, but other folk will just buy twice.

I think there is quite a few devs and pubs who take advantage of GOG folk who are prepared to buy games twice.

They do it about so much. "Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we will fix it." "Such and such project is on the way" "That is an error, we'll correct it."

Rarely does any of it come to fruition. Tired of GOG's bullshit. They lie to appease customers hoping we'll forget and it will go away. Maybe not intentionally all the time, but certainly some of the time. Otherwise it wouldn't happen so often here.

Lust from Beyond, Quake enhanced, Devotion, forum fixes, GOG-mixes returning, F.E.A.R. SecuRom, Saints Row 3 non-Galaxy save bug... All of it are things they've promised to bring here or address, and have not done fuckall about it.

No, they'll only get so many "Aw shucks, oops!!" passes from me. Eventually it starts to be insidious or malicious when you're aware of a problem or your way of dealing with problems doesn't work, but you keep doing it over and over again.

Timboli: GOG had nothing to gain by prematurely announcing the release of Quake Enhanced here
Not quite true, as by announcing it here they could stop some of us from running over to Steam (a competitor) and buying there. Moreover they might convince some of us with only the original physical Quake to buy from GOG immediately, trusting that the upgrade will be on the way "soon".

This might not amount to much, but it's also not nothing.

From a somewhat different perspective, GOG did not announce that the enhanced Quake would come here. It might seem a bit mealy-mouthed, but they only quoted the publisher:
Here's the official statement from the game's publisher:
Since GOG didn't give a contact name we therefore only really have the publisher as a whole to blame.

Looking back at the first post it does seem as if GOG were very careful to give a quotation and then step back rather than add any excitement or promises of their own. Perhaps they did not entirely trust what they were being told?

Then why announce it at all? Why not wait for more concrete statements if they didn't trust it?
