Is it going to be racist to speak foreign languages, too?

Yeshu: Wait! They changed the voice actor for Wang because the original one was not Asian?

WTF?!

Andrey82: Wait... It is... Possible?! I mean, if now some Russian guy in the game isn't voiced by a Russian actor - it is possible to force a company to change that? For example, everything concerning Russian culture or language was extremely terrible in the, for example, Tomb Raider 2013 or Rise of the Tomb Raider. I barely could understand that "Russian" voicelines. So, now it is possible to change that in the future titles?
Complain about it on Twitter enough, and you just might succeed. Companies have lately been pandering more and more to pretty much whatever any random weirdo or "group" comes up with and complains enough about on social media.

Ok, but can someone explain to me how this works? A company creates a product - some people on Twitter start complaining - company, somehow, listens to these people - fans start complaining on forums and stores pages - company ignores them - company makes a lot of money listening to Twitter instead of customers. How does this work? 0_o

They don't. That's the thing. This comic pretty much sums it up.

As for why? Social media are pretty much the most powerful channel these days. It's the most visible and it might make it seem like a majority of people have a problem with it, when it is in fact a very small but very loud minority. If the demands are not met, labels start getting thrown at the company in question, like "racist, xenophobe, bigot" etc., you name it. The companies panic, give in and the result is a product that's worse for everyone, including the 95% of normal people.

Thanks, this is absolutely perfect :D
Oh shoot, my bad.
I should have watched the new trailer before I posted. That sounds completely different, and devoid of character.

ugh. I'm still looking for official word on WHY they did this, but it looks like it's probably the Asian representation.

The reason is that because over the last couple of years or so, it has become an absolutely unacceptable travesty in mainstream media, gaming and anywhere in general for a non-white character to be voiced by a white VA. Talent or the actual quality of the VA does not matter, only checking boxes, no matter the cost.

The fact that they're calling casting the original VA a "mistake" in that article is all I need to see.

The main thing I have a problem with is that an established character with a specific voice we got used to over the past games is getting a different VA for no good reason. Not only is it going to feel weird but from what we've heard of it, it is going to be nowhere near as good as the original one.

Most of what new Lo Wang has become was in large part due to the "goofy, yet serious" voice that Jason Liebrecht nailed. There is pretty much no chance that Lo Wang in SW 3 is going to feel anything like the one in SW 1 or 2.

looks like it's okay for a demon to be voiced by a white dude. We are all demons, afterall. It's in the Asian Bible
And I'll echo others - Korea is not China, and he isn't even from the continent, lol.

tremere110: So they cast a Korean guy as a Chinese character... I mean I didn’t care when it was a white guy because the sole factor was quality. Now they specifically cast by race and they STILL get it wrong? Seriously? What? Do all of us Asians look and sound alike to you? Honestly I’m a little insulted, being part Chinese myself.
In a truly pathetic (although entirely predictable) attempt to jump on the woke bandwagon, FWH have done what they all do, and ended up where they all invariably end up, as viewing peoples/races as single entities based entirely on stereotypes and ironically becoming the ones who are actually racist and discriminatory.
Have seen a couple reviews, the game is incredibly short. 45€ for 6 hours and almost no replay value, I think I'll wait for a discount.

A woke game being subpar, not surprising.

Agreed. Feminists are like ZOMG too many breasts. Dev gives character realistic sized breasts. Target audience of 13 years old males don't buy game anymore. Turns out feminists don't even intended to buy.
