DieRuhe: Well, maybe it's the wording they use. The more expensive one lists, among the extras, an HD map; the less expensive one doesn't say anything about a map but that you get two mystery bonus in-game items. Could be I'm interpreting it wrongly, but to me that makes it seem like the map is something extra that possibly would not be in the cheaper version.

And then again, maybe there is an in-game map but they're talking about something different. Not really clear to me.

gandalfnho: The game has a in-game map, the map in the extras is an image file showing the world's map (is a digital version of the cloth map of the physical CEs)
That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Scorpionscythe: Thank you for the clarification. I am really excited about this game. Really disappointed in the lack of experience for combat though. Seems to be removing a very important part of the game. Maybe not as big a deal if it were similar to Planescape Torment. However, if its remotely like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale, not being rewarded for combat will most certainly hurt the game. It will also discourage exploration outside if main and secondary quests because there is little to no reward for it.

Nergal01: No XP rewards, anyway. Loot and extra content would still be enough for me, personally. But I understand if that is not enough for you or others.

I'll deal with the XP system in PoE like the ones from Bloodlines or Shadowrun Returns.
I decided to give it a go. Looks too good to pass up. Here is to hoping it plays as well as it looks!

djranis: Memory: 4 GB RAM seems a bit high for this game and when devs put out such specs, chances of the game being poorly optimized is really high, but if its as well optimized as torchlight 2, then who am i to complain

Tolya: Windows 7 has a minimum requirement of 2GB of RAM to run. Having 4GB's isn't unreasonable, it's the minimum for modern everyday computer usage.

It's not the 90's anymore - games have high resolution textures, high quality audio - everything has to be loaded into the memory for usage.

Consider this (simplified, albeit practical) breakdown of RAM usage on your machine.

- Windows 7 would probably like to take 2GB
- browsers with multiple tabs open will eat up a good chunk too (I have 17 tabs open right now and chrome reports about 1GB of memory used, broken down into separate processes for every tab)
- any other third party programs: Skype, antivirus etc. also use memory

On top of that you need to run your game on whatever is left. So a game that uses, realistically, about 500-600mb of memory will still need to be run on a machine with 4GB of memory, because of all the other applications competing for memory
I run 24GB and I still have to watch what I load. The new version of (bloatware we call) Steam requires over 1GB, Mozilla & Chrome chew up another 3GB (increases with the memory leakage), then we have AV & firewall, Win7, background tasks, app's for peripherals (e.g. Corsair 2100, Mamba mouse, etc), XBMC, and then I have just enough left over for a game of TW2.
All said, the "RAM" issue is an old argument. In fact a person can still hear old folk's questioning Mobile Phones over a Landline, they ask why do most people need the extra mobility.

katya_stevens: I was wondering if this was going to pop up here. Does this mean increased chances of other Paradox games making their way here?
Thought I saw my face for a moment :)

It's Obsidian, of course it is going to be a very good game. The only question is how many bugs it is going to have on release.

Aha. We may have found the missing GB between what Wasteland 2 officially needs and what I could run it on.

I know ..... it's that damn targeted advertising.
Here's something interesting, which shows the extent to which they're still in the process of optimising their memory usage:

we were able to make some good balance adjustments and memory fixes. load times between areas have been plaguing us for a while, but adam checked in some huge optimizations that really reduced the memory footprint and load times. one really bad area went from 3.6 gigs in memory to 1.6.
Have given an approximate release date?
I hate to say it but I'm actually considering buying this on steam because of how long the GOG updates have been taking for Wasteland 2.
Looks like we'll all be waiting till (February?) next year, wonder if pre-orders will get extended?

Linked and quoted: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68878-pillars-of-eternity-early-2015-beta-feedback-and-game-polish/

"Through your help and feedback, the Pillars of Eternity team has spent the past two years creating a fun, fulfilling experience. An open development has enabled us to interact with our fans and backers in a way we weren't able to in the past, and this has really helped shape Eternity into a game that we all hoped it would become. Plus, with the Backer Beta, we have been able to get excellent feedback from our backers that we are using to shape Eternity into an even better game. We really can't thank you enough.

To incorporate as much feedback as possible, polish every nook and cranny of the game, and make sure we don't ship a buggy game, Obsidian has decided to push the game's release into early next year. We are going to use the extra time to make Eternity shine for our backers, and a game that we were proud to call our own and would live up to your expectations.

Once again, we want to thank you for making this all possible. With your help we can bring Eternity across the finish line."

Looks to me like pets/familiars: an animal* and what appears to be a wasp.

Pheace: A 'real' dragon? :)
THIS is how Smaug would have looked like if he had Four Limbs+Two Wings:

Much more awesome looking than this:

Thanks Peter Jackson and WETA, you ruined Smaug for me now all I have left is to imagine Smaug looking like a Four Legged Dragon in the Hobbit books instead of visually seeing him as he supposed to in film.

Unless I become an animator and make my own version of the Hobbit.
I'd rather "necrothread" this one instead of the warm discussion about the new edition, because while I could be sceptic about that one, Pillars of Eternity is one of my most anticipated games, as I am a backer. I decided not to follow so much Pillars of Eternity because I was unable to have the time to participate to the beta (I didn't ask for because of unexpected personal problems).

I looked at its previews a bit, and it's really promising on every sides. Real Time tactical combat, choices and consequences, lore (I tried not to read too many spoilers), atmosphere and all.

A pity that is something controversial, because that game should deserve another way of attention.
I really hope it will be like I imagined more than two years ago (time goes by very quickly).
If i pre-order the hero edition, will i be able to buy a royal edition upgrade later?
Just so you know, it's now confirmed - Pillars of Eternity is due to release at 4pm GMT / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT :)
