Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

zeffyr: If my eyes don't lie, the price has dropped to 14$ from 15$.
That's true :)
- It's Grim Fandango,
- The price dropped,
- It's a nice move to make it a GOG-exclusive pre-order.
So, screw the fact that I have a disc copy and tools to make it work perfectly.
Pre-ordered.
I'm seriously trying understand why the people are whining. It's basically the same game, and it runs in modern O.S without problems.
Plus, it's cheap.

You should be grateful for the game appear here "first". Would normally take months to Remastered version appears here on GOG.

darthspudius: Well on this case then they should just not release the remastered edition at all because of you ungrateful pricks. See how people feel then!!!
Either you're trolling me, or you're the one of the most childish people ever to grace this forum.

synfresh: It also doesn't mean that remasters of games that are on the wishlist should not be sold here because people didn't vote for it.
I literally NEVER said that the remaster shouldn't be sold. Do you feel proud of yourself in your attempt to put words in my mouth? I said very clearly that I have nothing against the remaster and that it may in fact be excellent. Apparently reading comprehension is a lost skill.

To be clear, the original game isn't going to be included in this remaster. The article clearly says, and I quote, "The option to PLAY the game as originally envisioned is always there. " That means you can play with the tank controls, not that you can play the original game. So we're back to square one again, with some people merely requesting the original game(which, by the way, they are free to do), and others calling them "ungrateful pricks" and directing ad hominem attacks in their direction simply because they desire something other than what's been offered for purchase.

Happy? Sure.

Grateful? Why?
It's not a favor. It's a business decision.
I am so happy now, quietly waiting for Jan 27th. I hope to have finished Pokémon OR by then.

To clarify, from developers page:
"With updated graphics, a new live orchestral soundtrack, additional control schemes, developer commentary, and more, fans and newcomers alike will be able to experience the game with a whole new layer of polish and love, straight from the folks who developed the original game. Or they can always flip to the original art and tank controls and party like it’s 1998."

So, controls and graphics changeable, music stays new.

RafaelLVX: Sad that this doesn't have an awesome perfect brazillian portuguese localization, which the original had back in the day, like only very few other games.
avatar
Grargar: The language section is not yet final.
Thanks for the info.

And looking the game card, oh fucking god, the portuguese localization is back!!

I hope you took another look at the language info. It now lists Portuguese.

Edit: sure, it's obviously a major mind-blowing release, good for GOG and Tim.

joppo: And now we know it does have pt-br localization after all.

I used to love this game's voiceover. It was the first game with voices localized to us brazilians that didn't make me want to puncture my eardrums.
The best ever brazillian localization has got to be Max Payne 1, you should check it out. Grim Fandango was also one of the best and it's great to see it back. :-)

I didn't play the original (never heard of it at the time), but having seen it for a while as top requested game here I have been very curious about it!
My operating system of choice is supported, the price is still in my okay range, so even if I usually don't preorder I made an exception this time (then again, like some said, is two weeks early a real preorder?)
Some raised concerns here that I wasn't aware of, but well, I watched the videos about the remastering, I still hope the result will be great, seriously.
I wish there was some incentive of some sort to this preorder, in addition to support GoG, which is good, but still...
Tim Schaffer rocks! He fights for us to re-enjoy his work, and continues to release his own style of games! You have to have much love for the creator when he continually puts out quality, fun-to-play gems. I just discovered Stacking the other day, and played it through. I'm replaying Costume Quest and Brutal Legend right now! I'll keep buying Double-Fine keep it great. TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

Great to see GOG get first dibs. However I do think those votes should not have been merged. I get it looks exciting to see the highest game completed but let's be real, it's not the same for some people.

Maybe create a new "status" for that, like "Remastered available" (in a color that stands out), with a link to the game.

and people should get real about the fact that it's not going to happen. Sad but true. Should be more grateful that these guys went to all the effort to hopefully improve on the original game.

On that note, are we going to get the updated soundtrack as download? The original music didn't sound good because of the way they recorded it, but the actual compositions are quite good.
