With Paradox anti-piracy system, it's highly unlikely we'll ever get their new titles on day-one (even when Galaxy will be out):

But logistically, it's easier too, since there's gonna be DLC and the game has integrated mod support.

Don't worry, you'll get your Skylines.
In 2025 when the game is no longer supported and they're onto bigger and better things. I've had hope that that the new publisher deals would push them closer to day-one (or day 60 for that matter) releases for GOG, but it doesn't look like that's happening. Steam has integrated way too far into game dev at this point, what with Early Access and Greenlight. Steam has provided the atmosphere and created an entire network that begs for exclusivity. Though I loathe them and wish they would implode like the Death Star, it's actually a very smart business move.

What a shame... but ohwell thats what happens when you limit your options.
