I think a date is simply an appointment for a meeting. I'm not so quick to decide someone will be a friend. Perhaps take a friends application and have that person fill it out and return it when convenient. Then schedule another "date" for the interview. And after that second meeting tell the person the friends application will kept on file for six months, so no need to apply again any sooner, and that the person will be contacted only if there's a opening in which that person fits. Hmm, though, maybe word that last part a bit differently…
