Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

MajicMan: But It has been almost a month now and still no word about the classic edition and still no offline installers.
avatar
Gersen: You do know that ALL the current installers are the "classic offline" installers right ? There is not a single game yet with the new installer with Galaxy embedded.
Bullshit!

They are not the classic installers. I have only downloaded two games since the announced change and both times I never had the option to avoid galaxy - though they claimed you could click a box to avoid it.

They are the only two downloads that I have that show up in galaxy, Galaxy always tries to open when the game is finished downloading and I click launch. That never happened before. Strange how if Galaxy was optional and nothing changed and it was still the classic installers (I downloaded through gOg downloader) I would not have them in Galaxy at all, nor would the first game I downloaded after the switch open galaxy and try and put my games in a different location by trying to create a Galaxy folder - d/galaxy/games......

It is not the same.

Also, when I opened galaxy without connecting just now and close it, it still runs the client even though that was switched off the one and only time I ever went into the POS.

I have now uninstalled galaxy, lets download a game and see what happens....

Wow, I don't see them trying to make me create Galaxy, I am impressed.

I take it part of it back, now I have learned a lesson, never put Galaxy on the PC ever.

MarkoH01: This GOGMix makes me believe that the "new Galaxy impoved" *cough* installers are already in place? However I downloaded Dex to see if this is the case and could not find an option to not install Galaxy or a link to the so called "classic installer". So is it just a "soon to be" list based upon the one fables posted?
Hi, sorry for missleading title of the mix but it looks like I can't change that anymore. I created this mix after the announcement from the original provided list of inflicted games and linked it here in this thread. A few days later GOG announced to sep back down a little and delay the whole thing see www.gog.com/forum/general/offline_installers_with_an_option_to_install_gog_galaxy/post929

So the games don't have the galaxy client inside YET but they will in the near future. Thats why I let the mix stay up. Sorry again for the missleading informations, I now added them to the description of the mix to prevent future misunderstandings.

Thank you for clearing this up. That is the reason the list sounded so familiar to me :)

The discussion was about the offline GOG game installers including an embedded installer for Galaxy. You have already installed Galaxy before. The game installer is not (re-)installing Galaxy for you.

This might be but the question remains if the installer would also install Galaxy if it wasn't already installed. That is what the supposed checkbox was meant for. It has been posted here that the behaviour to launch Galaxy by clicking launch game in the installer after finishing the installation has been implemented for a while and Galaxy won't launch if you don't click the button on the installer or if it hasn't been already installed.

This has been the case since the official release of Galaxy. Closing just minimizes Galaxy. You'll have to right click the icon or close it via settings inside Galaxy.

They ARE the "classic" installer; "Classic" installer means installers in which Galaxy is not bundled and currently there is no installer in which Galaxy is bundled (Except Gwent online multiplayer only beta version), all currently downloadable installers are the classic ones.

If you, yourself, installed Galaxy and install a new games then the game will detect that Galaxy is installed and will use it; but it has absolutely nothing to do with whenever or not the installers are classic or not.

The issue for me is, there's a huge difference between breaking backward compatibility so a game runs smoothly on modern hardware, and breaking it so it interacts with proprietary scumware.

Whether GOG is rethinking Galaxy integration or just being it's usual slow-as-molasses self, I don't know, so stay tuned.

Wishbone: Excuse me, but why in the nether hell would you deliberately mask the actual URL for official information in an official announcement? It's like there was a meeting in the GOG headquarters where it was decided that the new company policy is to deliberately antagonize as many of your long-time customers as possible.
So true

tremere110: Seriously!?

Stop trying to force Galaxy down our throats. Right now the only reason I shop on GoG is because I don't want to deal with a damn gaming client. I might as well go back to Steam - at least they have a bigger selection of games (and cheaper too since I can usually get a bunch through humble bundle). The advantage of using GoG for gaming is quickly dwindling.

I've put up with a lot of Galaxy crap - including support almost requiring Galaxy be installed to help. The final straw is quickly approaching where I might just dump GoG altogether. This isn't feeling like a DRM-free place anymore.
Exactly, if GOG is more like a STEAM I am sorry I am back to STEAM

Congratulations on implementing this "feature" in the most stupid and customer unfriendly way possible! Now I have to read the fine print for every installer I download and if it already has a Galaxy version, I have to CLICK to open the menu and CLICK AGAIN to switch to the classic installer. AGAIN and AGAIN for EVERY! SINGLE! INSTALLER!!!
Just epic, thank you GOG!

And what happens when I download the installers through Galaxy? There's no option to switch there and no note about which installer I get. Do I get the classic installer? Do I get the installers with Galaxy? Because I don't need Galaxy, I'm already downloading through Galaxy and I know how to install Galaxy without you putting thousands of useless copies of it in all of my backups, thank you very much!

Now just think for a moment, how much more convenient it would be for us, if we could be given the option to set what we want to be the default download. Anyone who doesn't want to use Galaxy shouldn't have to swith to the classic installers every single time, and anyone who uses the Galaxy download once, will not need to do so again, so if they are afterwards looking for downloads through their library it will be to back up the offline installers.
Oh what a great timing! (not!),
I was redownloading Witchter 3 since yesterday (thanks to my slow ass internet) and now, just before the last part, they changed the install packages.
The former ones aren't available anymore it seems

Looks like most of those games really benefit from having Galaxy shoved into their installers.

Thanks for the list, looks like my night is going back correlating which of these I own against which ones have had updates since 01May and re-downloading these with the rather hidden option.
