Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

MarkoH01: This GOGMix makes me believe that the "new Galaxy impoved" *cough* installers are already in place? However I downloaded Dex to see if this is the case and could not find an option to not install Galaxy or a link to the so called "classic installer". So is it just a "soon to be" list based upon the one fables posted?
I suspect it's most likely because those games includes either the "galaxy.dll" or "galaxy64.dll" that is included in games supporting Galaxy features.

In short it's not Galaxy it's just the DLL that allows games to communicate with Galaxy, similar to the steam_api.dll

That would make sense. Thank you.

The timestamp of dex installer was:
Mar 31 21:40 setup_dex_5.4.0.0_(10932)-1.bin
Mar 31 21:41 setup_dex_5.4.0.0_(10932).exe

It was 39 days before fables22's announcement.

Yes, you're correct. Just for the fun of it I installed Dex and looked at the files. The installation contains the files "Galaxy.dll", "GalaxyCSharp.dll" and "GalaxyCSharpGlue" among with "GogGalaxyHooks.dll". So obviously this is the reason ot is listed in the GOGmix.
If you unpack one of GOG's current InnoSetup installers with innounp and browse through the .iss file, along a bunch of strings related to the upcoming Galaxy download through the installer there's also an in-joke comparing Galaxy to the infamous ASK Toolbar:

galaxyInfoLabel=Install ASK Toolbar, more information about our awesome tool can be found
galaxyInfoLinkLabel=here

Very funny GOG! :-)

You would think if gOg has so much time to put such stupid sh*t into galaxy they could actually make galaxy functional and bring back the classic edition offline installers. Considering how ridiculously easy it is for them to just make the files available again considering they have them just sitting around.

But It has been almost a month now and still no word about the classic edition and still no offline installers.

Current state of gOg/cdpr:
Built POS client
Force "optional" POS client into every game
Cyberpunk 2077 is vaporware
Company was hacked
Reversed policy of DRM-free (see Gremlins Inc requiring internet connection to play single-player game)
But has time to make jokes about how their POS client is Malware.

It would be great if they got heir heads out of their asses, but their heads are in so deep it will take and excavating crew at least six months of digging.

I sent a chat question to the gogmix maintainer what is the purpose of that list. By the description it seems to indeed suggest that the listed games have an embedded Galaxy client installer in them, which doesn't seem to be the case, at least not all of them (are there any? Did Aliens vs Predator have the Galaxy installer embedded at some point?).

If it is listing any GOG game installers which just includes some extra Galaxy DLL among its files, that is a different thing indeed.

Note: As I just ran gogrepo today, I noticed many games have had some kind of update on the offline installer, but no changelog, e.g. A Bird Story, Among the Sleep, Braid etc. Maybe these games have some extra DLLs now added to them, or some other Galaxy-related features. But I presume they don't yet have the actual Galaxy client installer in them.

Yes, it had. Aliens vs. Predator Classic was given away as a freebie only to test Galaxy MP and so the first edition came along with part of Galaxy and it was not possible to deselect it then. They've changed it meanwhile but I don't blame them that it was there because it was clearly advertized as being the reason to give it away for free.

Yes, I asked about this in the update thread and I also asked GOG to do an entry in the changelogs like "internal update" if it is such. I got the answer that these were in fact internal updates regarding language GUI updates of the installers and that it would be too much work to add an (automated) entry in the changelogs so that is a thing that is not gonna happen" (see here).

Maybe I've missed soemthing but so far I did not even see the Galaxy included installers at all (and therefore could not see if there is an option to download the classic installer as well like promised). Could you please give me some examples (in the hope I am owning one of the affected titles?).

Yeah I think I saw that. Oh well, I just wish they don't keep making these internal changes too many times, unless they like the idea of gogrepo users redownloading the same games from the CDN servers over and over and over and over and over... again. Good thing I don't have any monthly caps on my internet connection, I just keep redownloading my GOG game installers in the background while I do something else (I have to pause the downloads if I intend to play Team Fortress 2 online, though).

No I am not going to check one by one all my 1366 games whether the updates are "important" to me and then redownload them manually, I let gogrepo check them all and redownload anything that has any kind of update. Be it internal, external, extraterrestrial etc. change.

Like I said - they simply don't care. Download or not download ... or simply use Galaxy and don't have any questions left ;)

You do know that ALL the current installers are the "classic offline" installers right ? There is not a single game yet with the new installer with Galaxy embedded.

Fine by me then I guess. I'll redownload the affected games every now and then with gogrepo.

It's not that they don't care -- they've "evolved". o.O
