HypersomniacLive: If I may, add the link for manual sorting in the Galaxy section of the Wishlist. The way things are going, I suspect that if that entry gets enough votes it may be considered by GOG, and since the account system is the same on both Galaxy and the site, the non-Galaxy user will also get it back.
Just a thought.

Fenixp: No. No, it was not. Even until now, you've had no control over this content and GOG never made any guarantees of keeping the game shelf as it was - in fact, they never even mentioned it as priority.

avatar
Siilk: In other words, nothing's forever, especially in the internet? What else is new?
avatar
Fenixp: So you knew all along that this could happen and now are upset about it?

avatar
Siilk: Oh, and from a purely practical standpoint there is no reason to have a collection of anything anywhere.
avatar
Fenixp: Of course there's a practical reason for collecting stuff, don't underestimate what you like, it makes you who you are.

avatar
Siilk: Real life responsibilities, ever heard about them? ... So before hopping on a high horse and blaming someone for not loving something enough because of not doing X, consider if they actually *can* do X with time and money they have to spare.
avatar
Fenixp: Don't do that. Look, if you have so little time, I suggest you stop wasting it on arguing here with me. The time you spent writing these posts you could have spent creating a virtual collection instead - so do me a favour, don't reply, and go do something that makes you happy.
If you're not gonna vote you have nothing to do with this discussion. Id be happy to vote and be a positive part of this thread and not a negative nitpicker passive agressive bully.

Actually, bullying. Yes, that's what you're trying to do right now.

On annoying things that this update brought, I'm also quite a bit pissed at how buried the GOG Downloader links are.

No, I'm not interested in a client to launch my games.

Please allow us to choose between Galaxy and the Downloader, instead of forcing Galaxy on us (which I understand and accept... to some extent) and having a zillion clicks to reach the Downloader links.

Please return the library to the old look, or at least give us an option to display the old 'classic' style. The new look is horrible and in my opinion not user friendly. I liked having my games all on one shelf (page) and all I had to do was scroll down, now I have to click to additional pages to view all my games.

In addition, I feel like I should be holding my monitor in my hands and treating it like a tablet, that is what the new library, and your website in general, looks and feels like now.

Listen to your customers and take suggestions that are being made seriously. To ignore or disregard them only serves to further anger them and potentially drive them away. I have been a customer since the beta launch, and have enjoyed your site until the recent changes. I look forward to building my game collection further but please make it easy to do so.

Please NO trading cards! I've already made $310.58 in less than a year from Steam trading cards, and would have to book myself into the psych ward if they came to GOG :(

Who in their right mind would spend so much on these digital trading cards when you can print screen if you really like the picture?

Yes exactly, I do not care about GALAXY for collecting the games, actually I was interested in Galaxy in order to play some multiplayer games, and obviously not many...

I am frankly not interested AT ALL in "achievements" or "time playing records" or any other Steam like features, but the difference is that we are not going to other posts "bitching" about how bad and non useful are achievements among other Galaxy features... if someone like them, then welcome...

By the way, I need to agree with people complaining about "pages" , is like a step backward...

Telling people to forget about a feature that they love in the website, suggesting that they would use their time preparing an HD software collection instead of trying to get a nice feature back, or in your own words "losing time discussing with me instead of make a collection", I do not know if it is bullying, but exactly about this last quote is definitively annoying, unhelpful, unconsidered, stupid (not you but the suggestion), and rude.

While I never used manual sorting I do agree that the old presentation had a charm to it that the new look lacks. It would be nice if you could make the icons tall. Or at least emboss them or add a drop shadow to them or something.

Coelocanth: I don't understand your argument at all. You always had to use the site to buy your games and get patches/updates. You can choose to use Galaxy for this or not. I installed Galaxy, but I find I really don't see the point. So I'm choosing not to use it. I like the site better. But I like forums and not all this social crap like chats, friends, etc. I read a post somewhere that said they plan on returning the PM function to the forums. If that's the case, then you'll be able to disconnect from that social networking crap completely.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Small correction. They're not going to restore the PM function, they're only going to import our PM history into the new Chat system.
That's fucked. That is as eloquent as I can be on the subject.

Missed my the point or ignoring it intentionaly? Yes, this particular digital store was a good place for my particular needs, as good as any other digital collention management service anyway. Until now, that is, not any more.

People know for a fact their pets are very likely to die before them. Not making them less upset whan that happens though.

And now you can't take the hit so just trying to shift the focus from the fact that you in your arrogance bashed YaTEdiGo a couple of posts before for no good reason, eh? So if you have enought time for that, how about *you* doing everyone else here a favour by spending this time on becoming a better human being instead?

I have no idea, especially since one can download each and every card image for free if they mean that much to someone. I started selling them as an experiment to contest a claim made on these forums that "you can't make money from selling trading cards" and have found that to be untrue. With some bundles, I have made more Steam cash from selling cards than I paid for the bundle.

Edit: to contribute something to the topic. I recently moved house and have been without a stable internet connection until a week or so ago. I was aware that the "optional" Galaxy client was on the way, and had little interest in it. After reading this thread, poking about on the site a bit and becoming aware of the changes (my 355 games are less accessible now and more cumbersome find, sort and download), I can fully understand why so many complaints are being made. I was unaware until today that the introduction of Galaxy would mean a step backwards in site functionality.

So I decided to test out the Galaxy client, and it is an atrocious attempt at a Steam client. That is has replaced the downloader (where one could download installation packages rather than have the game automatically install) is a shame, even though I haven't used the downloader in years. Why is that an issue to me? Because GOG, you have fucked my library both aesthetically and functionally. It is even more of an issue to me as my 3TB hard drive (with all of my GOG installers) broke soon after moving.

Yes I am one of the "chorus of whingers" on these forums who have been steadily watching things go downhill (obviously a subjective perspective, as every individual perspective is). The main thing that has kept me here has been the social aspect of these forums and the people I enjoy chatting with. Oh and you fucked the PM system by replacing it with "chat", and couldn't even manage to import the hundreds, if not thousands of communications I have had in the past 3 years.

Like others have said, my wallet will do the talking, as the "we are listening to your feedback" type threads posted by GOG staff over the past year or so have amounted to naught.

No, I'm telling you your point of view was flawed. Look, you threw presumably hundreds of dollars at a store for something they only had as a small feature low on their priority list which never even worked properly for everyone in the first place, and now all you can do is hope it'll come back. And if/when it does, would you honestly continue using it after seeing how easily it can disappear?

Are you comparing... Oh nevermind, you're right, I get it.

No, I'm trying to make you feel better about your hobby. Yes, I'm not very good at it, apprantely.

avatar
Siilk: And now you can't take the hit so just trying to shift the focus from the fact that you in your arrogance bashed YaTEdiGo a couple of posts before for no good reason, eh?
Look, I'm not going to self-redact because people might be upset by what I have to say on the matter. I'm sorry I rubbed you the wrong way, wasn't my intention - I never realized how many people cared what I think about them.

In the end, my entire argument comes down to what I said in the beginning: Don't rely on a webstore which doesn't have this as their primary focus to keep your game collection in a way you like it. Everything else was an attempt to find a viable alternative for you. Not for you you, for everyone with this issue. (Darkadia is actually neat! The last update was from 2014 tho, and it's another online thing. Oh well.)

avatar
Siilk: So if you have enought time for that, how about *you* doing everyone else here a favour by spending this time on becoming a better human being instead?
Nah, being a terrible human being is one of my best attributes.

You are really not spending time on trying to get a nice feature back, do you really think that the more comments you make on the matter the more likely is GOG staff to turn around? Nah, we're just arguing here by this point. Try to spread the word around about the wishlist entries if you actually want to make at least a little bit of difference, that might help.
