snowkatt: dont you mean third party ?

and nintendo seems to think their games are worth gold even 10 years later
No, I mean first-party.

No Metroid, no F-Zero? No new Zelda until this day for WiiU (only re-makes and re-releases so far)?

And the lack of third-party games is no wonder, given that both the 3DS and the WiiU sold very poorly. You can't sell hardware without a selection of software at reasonable prices.

Well, duh!

Everyone knows there's a new system coming to replace them, so no one bought new systems. It's hardly surprising, least of all to Nintendo, I'm sure.

ThermioN: the 3DS [...] sold very poorly.
No it didn't. It sold 60 million units. That's as much as the PS4 and the Xbone combined.

cause nintendo are perfectionists
they prefer quality over quantity
and while i can respect that a console cant survive on drip fed first party titles at the rate of one game every 6 months or less

and lets not forget that nintendo barely advertised the wii U or even told people what it was
lots of casuals and clueless parents thought it was an upgrade to the wii

Well, yeah. The 3DS might have actually sold well, but I still think that there's a lack of first-party titles and the games are insanely over priced.

which is poor compared to the DS ( 144 million )
ps 2 ( 155 million )
and the wii ( 103 million )

and nintendo kneecapped the wii U by all but ignoring the damn thing
having zero advertising for it
and little to no third party games and drip feeding the first party games

and then they murderize it by announcing the NX wil come in march 2017
...yeah that will help

and with how bizarre nintendo's behavior has been as of late i wouldnt be surprised if they were surprised about this downturn

Just this year there was Mario and Luigi, Mario Party, Fire Emblem, Pokémon, Rhythm Heaven, Kirby, and if you want to count it, Hyrule Warriors. I think it's pretty good, especially for a system that is starting to wind down.

As for price, well that's entirely subjective and prices might even vary between regions, so if you think it's too expensive I can't tell you you're wrong.

So what? By that metric literally every other system that ever existed sold poorly.

I used to buy games almost monthly for my DS

My 3DS purchases are down to a trickle, my latest purchase was majora's mask, I bought fire emblem awakening. have no interest in the new fire emblem at all.

Nintendo needs to slightly speed up their releases.

It was exactly what they should have done. The Wii U wouldn't suddenly become a best seller, and they have investors that must be appeased by ensuring there are new projects in the works. If they didn't do that their stock would have fallen and maybe 10 other people would have bought a Wii U instead of waiting and just buying a different console of theirs.

EDIT: Sorry meant to write it all in the same post, but it didn't work.

because you pulled a number out of your arse and expected that to somehow counter a point somebody was making
believe it or not but 60 million is low selling compared to the numbers
and handheld dominance nintend is used to
the 3DS is slipping and nintendo is losing their grip on their handheld monopoly

but hey you dont have to believe me right ?

or maybe nintendo should have let the wii U to die for the past 3 years

I bought a Nintendo once, so I could play Zelda.

The end.
Yeah well. Not that suprising. There are just not enough titles for the WiiU. And Nintendo can not even manage to put all the old games in their eshop... Idiots.

tell me have you heard of the wii U ? ;p

Tell me, have you heard of TVii?

Nintendo 3DS sales, PS4 and Xbone sales.

The point made was "the 3DS sold poorly", which is patently untrue. The market of today is not the same market of 2006, no console manufacturer is selling as much as they did back then, and out of all the dedicated gaming systems on the market, the 3DS sold more than any of them.

But hey, you don't have to believe these companies official sales reports, right?

And what is this phrase supposed to mean?

Like I said already a loong time ago, Nintendo's problem is that:

- mobile gaming has become more and more important to their success, with Nintendo DS etc. The living room console space is already owned by Sony and Microsoft.

- but at the same time, the mobile gaming is moving all the way to smart phones. Kids don't play their mobile games on Nintendos or Vitas etc. anymore, but on Android/iOS phones and tablets.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time. Nintendo has finally admitted this themselves too, hence Pokemon Go on phones.
Personally, I'd be thrilled for zelda to magically appear on the ps4 but in the end, hubris triumphs once again.
