despite pokemon go's succes the first financial quarter ( the financial year ends in march ) is mostly doom and gloom for nintendo with pretty much everything down
they even warn investors that although pokemon go is a massive succes nintendo only owns 32% in the pokemon company

>>While Nintendo tried to temper expectations and the impact of augmented reality game Pokémon Go ahead of its financial results, its latest quarterly earnings still make for surprisingly bad reading. Compared to the same quarter last year, Nintendo saw net sales drop 31 percent from ¥90 billion (£651 million, $853 million) to ¥62 billion (£448 million, $587 million) with an operating loss of ¥5.1 billion (£37 million, $48 million).

While the company blames "foreign exchange rates" and "significant yen appreciation" for the loss, the reality is that hardware and software were down across the board, and software growth has been minimal. Nintendo sold 220,000 Wii U consoles, a 53 percent decrease year-on-year, bringing the total number of consoles sold to just over 13 million. Wii U software sales rose a mere three percent to 4.7 million units.

Meanwhile, 3DS hardware sales dropped seven percent to 940,000 units, but software fared a little better, rising seven percent to 8.5 million units off the back of games like Kirby: Planet Robobot and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright/Conquest. Even Amiibo sales, which have been a bright spot for the company of late, remained flat due to "a lack of new titles that are compatible with Amiibo." Sales of downloadable games and content were also down year-on-year.

That no single game in Nintendo's library sold over a million units in the past three months highlights just how badly poor Wii U sales have affected the company's primary income stream. And while the 3DS remains the most popular handheld console, it's beginning to look tired after five years on the market.<<

whatever nintendo plans to do with the NX they better do it fast
and after reading this consolidating the console market and the handheld market in to one system might not be a bad idea after all
the 3DS is starting to show its age and it wasnt all that new to begin with in 2011
and the wiiU is just dead in the water

and a kotaku ( yeah yeah ) opinion piece on the perceived lack of games on the wii U
no matter how you try to spin it nintendo seems to be willing to let the wii U die

The last AAA game for WiiU was what?
And what do people buy and play in the downtime it takes for the only developer who develops for Nintendo (ie Nintendo) to develop another game?
Nintendo as a primary gaming device simply isn't viable.

I thought it was Mario Kart 8.

Not to mention they are pushing back the Zelda game rather than releasing it so they can put it as a launch title for the NX.

*sigh* i don't see it faring much better.

Star Fox zero came out in april, other than that Splatoon last year in may.
I'm really looking forwand to the new Paper Mario game. The series is fantastic, so much fun.
The last leak about the NX doesn't sound very promising eurogamer.
Anyway, without high profile 3rd party releases every new console is doomed and Nintendo lost them ages ago.

those be just rumors though >>https://www.gog.com/forum/general/nintendo_nx_might_be_nvidia_tegra_powered
they are probably very likely though
Guess they'll need to break the piggy banks for the next few years.

mleh
that mindset got them in this hole in the first place
nintendo was able to ride the lightning with the wii because it had a gimmick and was cheap

casuals are flightly and have a poor attach rate they go with the fads and when the fads are over their loyalty evaporates
and most casuals are fine with phones and tablets these days

if nintendo wants that market its commiting suicide that market is locked up by android and IOS

(unless they actually run android on the NX but thats no guarantee either just look at the ouya )
Trusting the word of Ubisoft is like trusting the farmer who doesn't know when to stop milking the cow.
I just don't understand the lack of first-party games by nintendo and the insane prices they demand. It's no wonder why nintendo is suffering losses.

Of course, the problem with the Ouya was that it was locked down, tiny, and crushed by tiny specs. Not to mention, it was mismanaged, with no updates and opening of features. Surely Nintendo wouldn't screw up like that, right?
