mqstout: I'm a minority in the community in that I prefer just "queer" as a whole instead of the often-derided "alphabet soup". But many olderfolk do have considerable negative associations (or even trauma) with the word "queer" from before it was reclaimed, sadly.

As for why the plus: For more inclusion. There's also often the inclusion of I (intersex) and A (asexual; or "allies"), and others.
Also, the Plus can stand for plurals and those whose genders fall ouside the binary notation, beyond fluid into third positions.

StingingVelvet: GOG should fight against those places where some people are not treated equally, not bow before them like they did recently with China.
LOL, no. GOG should not be doing any of that. They're here to sell games and run a business. It's one thing to give a nod or shoutout to the LGBTQ+ community (like they did), which I thought was nice, but it's something totally different to "fight against" or actively shove a view down potential customers throats.

And just stop with the China thing, because right or wrong, everyone else is doing the same thing. Steam isn't selling Devotion, neither is EGS, or anywhere else.

You're probably a phony person yourself saying and acting that way right now, because you no doubt support China in some shape or form. You don't buy or use anything from China? You don't support or comsume media from companies that support or are "in bed" with China in some way (which is basically everyone)?

I see this time and time again from you, and many others, who talk a big game but are fake as ****. You want these companies to stand up and take a stand against China, but are you willing to do the same if it would be a major inconvenience to your life, or actually cost YOU money? It's always a big fat NO. FAKE.

It's all well and good to act a certain way, or outraged about something, when it's someone else compromising themselves or their business by taking a stand. It's the same as this LGBTQ+ topic here - Where post # 40 was right. It's one thing to act all accepting for something when it has no affect on you, but you might find you feeling totally different when it does.

morolf: But it isn't a sale, the games in that collection aren't discounted.
avatar
StingingVelvet: Big events then, either way. You want to sell those games right? Honestly the fact it's not a sale is also a "do it or don't do it" kinda thing. My general point is you shouldn't do a pride month event that is barely mentioned or focused on, it just seems like a lame attempt to not upset anyone either way.

Why a pride event would upset anyone outside of Iran in 2021 I have no idea, but of course it would.
Would you be supportive of ''pride'' events for other aspects of identity? Like race, ethnicity or religion for example?

We already have these. It's called national holidays.

So that's what LGBTQ pride is? A holiday based on sexual orientation?

patrikc: Interesting, why would you mention Iran as an example? Why not Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nigeria, Mauritania or even Russia? Could it be because Iran is portrayed as the devil in Western media, whereas Saudi (or the Emirates for that matter) not so much (more like a good, reliable partner)?
As morolf said and to the surprise of some, many people across the world perceive this as something unnatural, even if they do not voice it.
So they're shocked at things which occurs in nature [/url] and yet haven't gone out to slay the entire Bonobo population?

Heavens to Betsy, I can't imagine their shock if they knew about trans animals.

Heck, some institutions and countries carry around holidays for people who shouldn't be celibrated, like Columbus.

fronzelneekburm: It's a bit of a shame that gog doesn't seem to have the cojones to open up a Pride Month thread in their own forum, since it's, paradoxically, supposed to be about pride and all, so I guess I'll have to open one in their stead.

Pouyou-pouyou: They would get censored by themselves for violating their own forum rules.

This sort of stuff goes to show that the lgbt movement(adding letters, making flags, etc) is likely hurting more than helping, by putting people into neat little boxes and further dividing people.

Imo if people want to be truly inclusive they should just drop using such terms(lgbtq+) and just include/accept everyone as fellow human beings.....free of labels.

(of course I know this likely won't happen anytime soon....too many of my fellow lgbt are too attached to the spotlight/special treatment given to them by citizens and corporations)

It's a complicated matter; especially when you have lawmakers making them the new target for stigmatization. As seen by the Anti-Trans bills pushed by (but struck down) in Texas, and this brown stain from Tennessee.

You know, actual segregation.

So feeling the need to make noise is understandable. Since I don't think anyone wants to be dragged though Civil Rights Movement II.

I wonder if it would be controversial to suggest that this process is better performed by animals since it's not a sterilization process unlike with humans...

The hyena bit is funny, though, 'cause it's old news, like really old news. So old, there've been some interesting studies on female bisexuality that run on this. Turns out, there's this think called a "plethysmograph" that can measure female erections as a result. And the conclusions were interesting, but way, way too controversial to put on GOG.

That really doesn't seem to disprove what I said.

Btw, you seem to miss/forget that if everyone stood together and not apart(lgbtq+ vs everyone else) us humans would almost certainly be stronger as a whole.

It really isn't, imo, as most of the first world gives us plenty of preferential treatment(including things like this gog event) and we more or less have it pretty good.

Now if this were parts of the third world or areas like the middle east, then maybe you'd have a point.

Because no one has ever tried to get someone segregated for disagreeing with the community.... I heard something about the LGB Alliance, Trans people, TERFs....

Not that i'm saying it's justified, but i do find it odd when someone suddenly cares.

EDIT: And that's throwing cancel culture aside... I just can't help being skeptical at this point.

I consider myself of an enlightened mind and felt it something of a chortle.

Sometimes I do think budding or pollination would suit us better. ;p

Well, if you ignore the cultural history of homosexuality, sure. How it was basically forced to be underground until this very century it took for legalization and reparations towards allowing them to marry or exist without persecution and even gain protection.

From the article:
Pride is about people coming together, to show and celebrate how far gay rights have come and how much is still left to achieve.
Pride month is about equality, teaching acceptance, education in pride history and above all, love. During this month, we educate others and ourselves about how damaging homophobia is and why we need to get rid of it. It's about being proud of who you are no matter who you love.
Still doesn't differentiate it from ''pride'' in other aspects of identity though. What differentiates this from a hypothetical racial or religious ''pride'' month? I understand observing holidays as an appeasement tool used by governments the world over and this just seems to be another flavour of it, only used in internet ''civil'' society to signal their allegiance. Instead of recognizing that holidays to show support for X are an illogical thing in the first place, this just seems to throw itself in to the broken system.
