SirPrimalform: The Star Wars extended universe was a reboot? I'm not correcting, just asking - I know nothing about the extended universe. Or do you mean the Disney sequels constitute a reboot? Again, I have no idea, I've not seen Force Awakens.
Disney rebooted the Extended Universe when they bought Star Wars. Everything other than the movies and the Clone Wars CG animated series was removed from canon, and and the comic books and novels published since then are a new EU.

Yes, exactly. The novels and comics and even games made before have all been abandoned now as non-canon.
I used that comparison, because technically, they're NOT total reboots. The original movies, and the prequel trilogy still count, but the stuff other than that, created by other authors was considered "not worthy".

Similarly for Monkey Island, if Ron Gilbert gets the IP rights, then he'd abandon the stuff that came after 2 as "not worthy" (or more accurately, not fitting with how he imagined the story going).

I misunderstood you. I thought you were comparing those to Escape, which is why I said they are not good comparison. Yeah, the Star Wars-Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island 3 comparison would make sense. Not Spider-Man though, that is a total reboot, nothing from the previous movie counts.

There is a word for that, it's called a retcon. ;)
If they're getting rid of some of the continuity but not all then it's not a reboot. This seems to be a perfect example of what Ron Gilbert would like to do with MI.

It would be a bit confusing and be hard for people to find your stuff, considering this thread is titled New Monkey Island game. It'd probably be better to start a new thread for those things.

But thanks for telling me about Wasteland 2 being free for the weekend. I'm going to try it out now!

fan3l: Ron Gilbert, the creator of first two Monkey Island games, has made an public announcement to Disney that he intend to buy the IP rights.

"Dear @Disney, now that you're not making games, please sell me my Monkey Island and Mansion Mansion IP. I'll pay real actual money for them. (23:30. 23 may 2016)

This can be a great news, after that Disney decided to offer games licesing to other producers, and we can dream to a new adventure of Guybrush Treepwood.

Ron Gilbert is currently working on a new old-school adventure game Twimbleweed Park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp2ONwX-BNk)
