Ron Gilbert, the creator of first two Monkey Island games, has made an public announcement to Disney that he intend to buy the IP rights.

"Dear @Disney, now that you're not making games, please sell me my Monkey Island and Mansion Mansion IP. I'll pay real actual money for them. (23:30. 23 may 2016)

This can be a great news, after that Disney decided to offer games licesing to other producers, and we can dream to a new adventure of Guybrush Treepwood.

Ron Gilbert is currently working on a new old-school adventure game Twimbleweed Park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp2ONwX-BNk)

New Monkey Island game? Good. Ignoring all the games after the first two? Very bad. Also, looking at Thimbleweed Park there is a very reall danger that the new Monkey Island game would end up an ass-ugly, overly-retro pixely thing too.
One can certainly hope that Mr. Gilbert's request is considered, or even fulfilled, but I'm not sure I dare bet anything on it. Much more likely that they buy another company and tell them to make a new Monkey Island game.

Is that how a professional applies for IP acquisition nowadays, "let me have them please, I give you real money". Sounds like a 2yr old.
Wow, good news at last! But i don't like ignoring the 3d title, it was a masterpiece in each and every aspect... Ignoring 4 would be totally fine, at least!

But first, can we please have the 2 remaining titles, here? Please? Pretty please with sugar on top?
After Day of the Tentacle, Ron Gilbert has left Lucas Arts.
The Curse of Monkey Island is directed by Tim Schafer.
doubt that disney will sell him the ip considering they can make tons of money by allowing other devs to use the ip to make monkey island games
This is probably just an ill conceived attempt to bring more attention to Tumbleweed Park. I don't blame him, it's a tough sell and not everybody has Tim Schafer's skills for self-promotion.
Yeah... don't start holding your breat with this one.

Thimbleweed Park's look is rather outdated, and I certainly wouldn't call it a thing of beauty, but when I compare it to a certain more "modern" game, TP actually doesn't look that bad to me, and I would reserve the term "ass-ugly" for that other one. :P

Tim Schafer had nothing to do with Curse of Monkey Island.

Honestly, I'm totally fine with leaving Curse out (and obviously leaving Escape out).
The Curse of Monkey Island may have been a nice enough game, but to me at least, it wasn't Monkey Island.

If here, the bastion of classic games, is where we begin graphic snobbery about "old looking graphics", then it seems all hope is lost :D.
Obviously, the intent behind Thimbleweed park was to ape a particular era of computer games, but I'm not sure "outdated" is the appropriate term to use (unless pixel art in general is outdated). As for it not being a thing of beauty, I beg to differ.

Even though I personally never cared for the Maniac Mansion art style, with Mark Ferrari on board, I'm pretty sure the art is in good hands.
OMG, guys! Have you read Randalator's twitter?

"Dear @apple, now that you're not making the iPod Classic anymore, please sell me the respective rights and patents for the device. I'll pay real actual money for them. (20:52. 24 may 2016)"

New iPod Classic coming?

I was actually trying to defend it against ugly 3D graphics. I will definitely buy and play it at some point. I'm a fan of pixel art, but I'm not necessarily a fan of retro. I prefer the Day of the Tentacle style over Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island over Zak McKracken. Still, it wasn't me who called it "an ugly ass, overly-retro pixely thing". ;)

When you speak to them can you put me up for the Apple ][ and derivatives?
I'll pay with real monopoly money.
