Find out what makes you click.

Pointing at things is rude, unless you click on them too, gran always used to say. Not that adventure game heroes are strangers to rude behavior. But when you got ghastly murders to solve, magical kingdoms to save, or a hot girl to conquer, you are allowed some mischief.

Not to worry, though, it will all be worth it in the end. Just keep calm and put everything in your inventory.

The Midweek adventure games Sale ends January 19th, 11 PM UTC.

Panaias: Since you still haven't played this game, I feel obliged to warn you about it. In a nutshell, it's frustrating.
I am all for adventure games, it is my favorite type of game since I was much younger and I own (and have played) a huge amount of the classics and modern ones. Also, I am a very patient gamer. I do not quit or feel let down by a game easily, I let myself get used to them for some time and if I still do not feel ok then I uninstall.
Having said that, this particular game made me feel "tired" right from the start.
-I've read people complaining about the protagonist's voice. Yes, it is boring and it doesn't really make you feel ready to move on with the next challenge because it is always sad and blue. I eventually got used to it but I wouldn't mind if he didnt't speak at all.
-Moon logic. Lots of it. In fact, I am trying hard to remember a few puzzles that could be solved logically.
-Hot-spot interaction a la Curse of Monkey Island, a.k.a. the "verb coin". In Monkey Island 3 I remember never having trouble with it, but here it always felt a little distracting and tiresome. (Or maybe it's the fact that many years have passed since Monkey Island 3 came out and I remember it fondly due to nostalgia).
Conclusion? This game managed to get me fed up and say "ok, that's enough". I literally felt tired. I managed to get to the 3rd or 4th chapter I think. Then I uninstalled the game and watched the rest of the gameplay on youtube. After watching it I felt happy because I saved lots of hours to do other things.
Please note that this is my personal opinion and by no means do I intend to prevent anyone from buying / playing it. I just described my personal experience playing it as objectively as I could.
Thanks for the warning .... i was about to install it but its now hidden on the shelves
I noticed new games this week arrived at GOG so i am checking the min req. and if those are too high i save money
just 'saved' 8.19 euro ٩◔‿◔۶ on this game : https://www.gog.com/forum/general/in_development_archeo_shinar_6b900/page1

Stopped buying games i have to play on min requirements last year this will only make me mad and sad at the same time and my wallet doesnt appreciate a sad face .

Feudal Alloy looks okay has some nice cartoon graphics, but all the heavy scrolling and effects make it a no, so i dont even have to check the min. req. : saved: 14.99 euro

check the animgif of the game :
https://items.gog.com/feudal_alloy/screenshotSaturday_1.png ( it says its a png but its a (anim)gif when you save it)
Dont save as from the link, if you right click the link and save it saves as a png,. use save as from the image displayed on the webpage.

thats 23 eu and .18 cents saved , maybe for the next HOG coming up.

GOG.com: ..., or a hot girl to conquer, ...
With a description like that it's almost a crime that neither the Spellcasting series nor any of the older LSL games are on sale. ;-)

And since all the obvious recommendations for this sale were already given: A relatively unknown hidden gem is The Night of the Rabbit which is practically a steal at -90%. Any point and click fan should really buy this one.

No problem, glad I saved you some patience & lots of hours (I wish someone had warned me as well!). Since I see you have played The Dark Eye games (Chains of Satinav & Memoria), any pointers on those? They've been sitting in my backlog for way too long.

The dark eye and satinav are better then the average rest i called meh , i found the game to be hard... thats why i stopped playing: maybe because its to hard or i' m just plain stupid / to dumb to think logically, or maybe both ٩◔‿◔۶ which would be more likely i guess.... thats why i favor casual games, clickderclick and the small animations run to collect stuff... no thinking required...

Anyway, sometimes i buy a game i can play ( pc permitting to run at recommended cause play at min. is awfull) and has no exessive motions and light(ning)effects.
The games have nice abckgrounds good animations and a nice 'atmosphere' even if they might be extremely difficult i might buy them because the game grabbed my attention.

LynetteC: Any chance you can make the primary tag of HOGs 'Hidden Object' rather than 'Adventure' please?
And when you are on it, please do the same for the 'Visual Novel's.

Thanks.

gamesfreak64: Steam has many 'mistakes' regarding tagging games, i dont mind HOG, but Steam tags many games as HOG because they have one scene that has hidden objects, this way when i am filtering i get too many action games, platformers because it has one scene where you need to find objects.

Anyway imo point and click games are point and click to find objects and combine them or use them, and they should not have action scenes in it...problem is many games have added many different things to try to sell it to as many gamers as possible, i dont fall for that trick thats why my list of hidden games on steam is huge, best would be to block entire developers, some devs only develop action or hog games or fpp games, it would be easier if we could block them and prevent showing all the games they released.
I gave up on Steam tagging a long time ago! :-)

The games I feel need a dedicated 'HOG' tag are the ones that are predominantly hidden object scenes that entail pixel hunting in a screenful of junk with a puzzle in between each hunt.

There are some types of hidden object games that I actually don't mind - the Drawn series or Tiny Bang Story are examples. The first Azada (and quite possibly the later games - I haven't tried those) was another HOG/not HOG that started well but the puzzles in between became repetitive very quickly. These kind of games I can accept being labelled as 'Adventure' because the hidden object part is dealt with more like an adventure than a pixel hunt.

What's really frustrating is when developers only use screenshots of the cutscenes and puzzles, and perhaps a single HOG screen to promote their games so you don't realise they're fully HOG until you actually play.

thats right.... first ancient HOG were pretty boring compared to the ones the develop today, a few very good old HOG are still around, have no action parts or minigames, but they can't make them that way anymore i guess, so its mostly HOPA .
