Very hard to pinpoint the "first love" game for me as I started playing games very young. Most likely Duke Nukem 3D, as that's what I was playing during visits to my uncle, when we still did not have a PC at home. The shareware episode. In the level with the conveyor belts and cranes, I distinctly remember trying to lure and kill every single enemy in the level to the belts and killing them on the belts, so that the corpses would perpetually loop around. The kid me was amazed by that and I could spend hours just watching that :D

But there could be a ton of other contenders:

Doom 2 (not 1, played that much, MUCH later)
Blood
Age of Empires 2 (how do you turn this on, aegis, rock on, lumberjack, robin hood... feels like yesterday)
Some random bootleg Mario DOS port
Unreal Tournament (probably why I feel most FPS games are too easy these days :P)
Vlak (a czech take on snake)
Commander Keen

etc.

Over on the FlatOut forum, several people are complaining about multiple virus scanners considering flatout.exe to be malicious. Virustotal currently lists 20 different scanners in this category.
I'm currently assuming this is a false positive, but either way, some action here might be warranted.
Why Fulqrum Publishing and THQ Nordic not participating in this special sale ?

Thanks for the heads up. Apparently this is an old issue:

Glad i didn't install the game, free game or not this is totally unacceptable shame on gog and developers for allowing this. Even if it is false positive, i'm not taking any chances.
The standouts for me are LEGO Island and Speedy Eggbert (pre-2004; best memories with these before I got my own computer), though close to the actual "first" might be Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo.

kai2: GOG, thanks for the free title.

But this sale...

... many of the usual suspects...

... again...

... but this time I found a number of games at vastly lower discounts than within the last 30 days (one game I looked at was around $9.00 but was $0.99 just last week!).

There are so many games in the GOG catalog that rarely go on sale these days... but instead the same games go on sale again and again and again. *sigh*

u2jedi: When was the last time Megaton Rainfall was discounted? That one is always blacklisted from promotions.
Looks like the last sale on Megaton Rainfall was Jan 2019
For most of the Yakuza games that isn't a bad price.
Depending how you define love, probably Secret of Mana or Exile II.
Honestly, I can't rememeber... maybe Joust?

Hope it didn't turn out like in the ad :))

Luckily not, or else I would've had my house destroyed :)
I would never eat that egg, though...
(those old Atari commercials... genuine classics!)
Thank you for the giveaway! I've never got a chance to try any of the FlatOut games, and now I can finally give 'em a go, even if it's just one. Also, I'm glad it's the first of the series. This way I can get to start from the beginning, I suppose.

:]

As for the first video game that I first fell in love with... damn, that's a tough one (for me at least). I first started playing video games at a very young age, and, fortunately I'd say, I had the chance to try many different games, all ranging from different genres. From F.P.S. games, to arcade racing and R.T.S. ones. And there many which have always felt special to me. So much so that, some of which, I still play them to this day (whenever I find the time to, that is).
So, yeah... can't really pick just one, hehe. But, for anyone who cares, here's a few:
- Chasm: The Rift
- Wreckin' Crew: Drive Dangerously
- Marathon 2: Durandal
- S.C.A.R.S.
- Tomb Raider (from I to V)
- Soul Reaver
