tinyE: I'm lost; when did racial slurs come into this?
avatar
JDelekto: At least he didn't say "casually hunted a famous lion from Zimbabwe". From the notoriety that's gained lately, it makes "racial slurs" look like giving someone a 'gesture'.
Sick of hearing about that lion. Have the world not got anything more to care about?!
This is my belief of the system and how I go about things. It may not be correct and you may not agree. But it is the extent of my knowledge and based on that my actions

generally speaking you never "own" the game, but you own a license to play said game, steam is not like that, steam is a glorified rental service that they "could" terminate at any time. Even though they said they wont.... uh huh...

GoG is different in that you gain a license and GoG have also said in th past that if they were to close shop they would do everything they can to keep the download servers available for as long as they possibly can so that people can download and back up their games, steam has hinted towards the same but I do not think there was ever an official statement on it.

Personally I use both steam and GoG, but if both places sell a game I will buy on GoG. Other games that I want to play that are steam only I will buy but not because I like steam, but because I want to play that game. if there were another way of doing it I would use that, case and point, the re-release of the PC version of FFVIII. I got straight from SquareEnix (retarded DRM though)

I know my actions do support steam also but I dont do it for that purpose, The games I buy on steam are because they are tied to steam and whether I bought a disc or a digital copy it would go through steam. Again my case with this would be my introduction to steam when I bought a disc copy of the last remnant and found out I had to subscribe to steam....

Overall I avoid steam where I can, but I wont not play a game I WANT to play just because its on steam

Trust me, I'm right up there with you on that --and you don't know how long I've been praying for some other news story to take it out of the public eye.

I really started getting fed up with the whole thing when I heard that his wife and his daughter were being harassed by internet presences when they had nothing to do directly with his own decisions. That's where I draw the line.

He shot a lion, big whoop. I hate modern civilisations need to harass anyone who goes on the hunt. Sure I do not approve but that is my opinion and there is no need to force it on anyone. It's near as bad as fucking religion!

darthspudius: Well someone takes life too seriously. They're not oppressive. They're just ass holes with too much control. It's a forum, big fucking deal. People go there to talk about games, not to see some over serious fellow ranting about how "digital came is bad mmmkay."

We're suppose to just play games, not turn it into some serious life matter.
I'm not sure if this is sarcasm.

Valve's customers need to a way to say they are unhappy with certain aspects of their service, and the forum are the only really way to do it. Except the moderators remove most traces of this.

Sure you can email gabe directly, but I doubt he ever reads any of them. I know for sure I've never got a reply from him or anyone else I've contacted via their email form.

11 years ago STeam would allow you to use one account on multiple machines and allowed so via the SSA. It was a good service. 7 years ago they took that way and changed the SSA. They have a near monopoly and are abusing it.

It's not the lion so much as the rich asshole that killed him. These billionaires pay a fortune to be taken to these game preserves, shown the lion, handed the gun, have the gun aimed for them (okay maybe not :P) and then they spend the rest of their lives regaling anyone within earshot about their bullshit man vs animal fight for survival. XD "It was me or him!" Bullshit! The lion was just minding his own business, probably taking a crap, when you blasted him.

This is not a dig at you btw but how many times do we have to go through this on the forum? Steam confirmed this years ago, way before GOG did. There was a big debate about this a couple of years ago.

It is not my concern haha. Almost sounds like how I met the wife.

You ARE allowed to use one account on multiple machines. It's called family sharing. They have it as a service right there to use. You can actually port steam to your tv, to another laptop, to any other PC on your network WITH ONE ACCOUNT. Hell, you can SHARE GAMES ON YOUR ACCOUNT with other people.

I haven't tried the sharing option yet, Have you used it?

Well, there are those who go on the hunt for sustenance, there are others for trophies. When people hunt animals for food and use as much as the animal as they can to survive, it's much different than those who pay extremely large amounts of money to bring down an animal for only a few of its parts, like the head and the pelt.

I'm not the kind of person to jump on the bandwagon with torch and pitchfork in hand; the whole thing reminds me of the Salem Witch trials, much less Biblical times. History repeats itself and it's because a great big pool of ignorance.
Eh, I've never had a problem with Steam, but I don't go there much anymore and I prefer to get games here. I still occasionally buy a game on Steam if it's not offered here (it helps that most big releases in the past few years have been absolute shit). But I never visited the forums much because the information there is generally useless or just complete whining.

Even hunting for provisions is so bad. I'd love to see people try fend for themselves in the wild.

jacobellinger: So why did I decide to remove steam from my computer?
Why did I decide to give up all my lovely steam games?
I consider that a bit of overreacting, but to each his own.

I didn't quite follow, what exactly was your reason to leave Steam, even up to the point of giving up (for good?) all your purchased Steam games? Because you were banned from the forums?

While I much prefer buying my games from GOG than Steam (or Origin or UPlay or Windows Store or or or...), I still see no reason to give up my Steam account. I have lots of games there I still intend to play, even a free-to-play game like TeamFortress 2. I haven't bought games from/for Steam for quite awhile though, and even then it was probably some HumbleBundle bundle that included also Steam codes. I guess I am quite saturated with games at the moment, I don't really feel I have to buy more games for quite awhile (yet i sometimes do, but for now only from GOG.com and sometimes Humble Bundle Android). But I might buy more Steam games at some point, who knows.
