tinyE: Meh, okay. I can't really afford it anyway and with my new system there are already a few hundred games in here I'll get to play before I even think about that one.

Hey Barry, sorry about the derail, and I mean that.

darthspudius: dont listen to that. I still think its the best in the series. it is the only one not over saturated with fetch quests. that and the story is awesome.
There's no accounting for taste, I suppose. But the first one only has one kind of quest and it's the same one over and over and over again. The plotline itself was insufficient to deal with the extreme lack of variety in the missions.

Over-saturation of fetch quests or not, it never feels like it. Because you do have to actually use more than one approach to solving the problems.

Yeah after like 4 games they finally switched the quests round. But the first game was never suppose to be a super detailed game. It was effectively a tech demo. Some of us prefer the simplicity and the not so bloated story.

Like I said there's no accounting for taste. I liked the story, it gave me some reason to actually finish the game. But, even the story in the first one wasn't sufficient to get me to finish it. I've tried several times and I just can't do it. It's the only game in the series that I've started, but not completed.

There no accounting for taste? Stick it up your back side.
Never gonna happen in a million years, Uplay is too integrated into the games and they're still active sellers.
I'll be honest, the ones I really want are the recent fairy tale RPG (Child of Light I think?) and the WWI "Vikings-esque" game. And don't even get me started on Might and Magic X.

snowkatt: 14 games ~.~
and i thought activision milked call of duty
I've played the first through brotherhood (first 3 or so)... and i had my fill. I will likely never touch the series again...

I enjoyed up to and including 3 with Brotherhood actually being the series high point for me. I feel like I should have enjoyed Black Flag more than I did (I LOVE pirate RPGs, even RPG-lites). But after Black Flag I really never felt compelled to return to them.

I actually quit halfway through Brotherhood... the progress you made up to that point felt like it was cut off from what you were playing on from that point, and i didn't even like the character from AC2 to begin with, so making me play only in the past made it uninteresting.

As for Black flag... I watch gameplay of the boating mechanics and cringe. It's like how fast and good a boat would move if you were playing in a bath tub with miniatures. Yes it condensed all the fun of pirating but boats don't turn that fast or aren't nearly that responsive for real. Having the moving half as responsive or a speedup option giving other ships a better advantage would have probably been better.

... But then again we play games to escape realism, not emerge ourselves in it...
I don't get the dislike for AC 3, it was one of my favorites in the series (even more than the Ezio trilogy). Maybe I overly identified with the the themes and such in the game (I'm from Boston, my family traces its history all the way back through the Revolution, to the Mayflower and the local native tribes), but it was a fantastic story, the gameplay was fun, the controls were slightly less frustrating than earlier incarnations, plus the naval stuff was amazing. Sure, the "busy work" side quests and collectibles were a bit excessive, but overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable game. Of course AC 4 and Rogue outdid it in almost every way, but unlike the first few games, I keep getting the itch to replay AC 3.

You definitely missed the point of the game I think. :P

It is quite good fun to be honest. The game play is great unfortunately the story leaves a lot to be desired.
I'd love to see that happen. The series definitely wore out its welcome after a while, but II, Brotherhood, and Black Flag were all great games in my book. Most of the games are worth playing even if they are too repetitive for their own good.

I never did either. I really liked everything about the game. I even liked the economy of the homestead crafting - though I wish the payoff had been more interesting. It was probably my favorite behind Brotherhood.

I did find it quite fun for a while. I don't know what it was or wasn't about it that caused me to burn out on it - it was an odd game for me in that way.

I agree that the story is terrible however. So disjointed and all over the place. I feel like the script was dropped on the floor at some point, so they just piled up the papers and never checked the order or worried about the stack that flew out the window LOL.

That sums it up perfectly haha. It is a shame too since the gameplay was quite good.

Well i haven't played it, but the high action floaty controls and fast movement of the ships to give it a faster pace... I don't know.

In other games like SPAZ i know the larger the ship the more mass it has, especially when hauling a load, and that affects it's turning and momentum. Black flag seemed to ignore those rules. Maybe it was for the best, but it's something i probably can't look past. A younger me could look past it, but not as i am right now.
