Through years upon years unnumbered, gamers, cinema lovers and TV viewers alike have been condemned to LCD. The tyranny of backlit pixels has had a very tight grasp on our society. Everywhere you go, you see backlit pixels. Your grandmother's flat? Yep, LCD. Your late aunt's house that you inherited last winter? Backlit pixels. The house your brother bought last summer? Well, obviously it came with a wall-mounted TV with backlit pixels and imperfect blacks.

But there is a glimmer - and I mean, a tiny, almost imperceptible, nearly invisible - of hope. Something has arisen that does threaten LCD's nefarious control over out lives. Its name is OLED.

Finally. After years of dealing with crushed blacks, greyish blacks, visible glows near the edges of the screen, distracting you from the movie - finally.

Perfect blacks. Lightning fast response time. Infinite contrast ratio. The number of Local Dimming zones equal to the number of pixels. No glow, no distractions, no being torn out of the experience. Just a perfect, flawless cinematic experience.

Is OLED the new king? Do you believe backlits will eventually have been replaced within 2 years in every household?

Will you straight up refuse to buy a phone/TV/monitor if it's not an OLED?

Do you think LCD is a thing of the past?

I don't care tbh, and don't see why one would unless one's a porn addict.
Is this a forum thread or a movie trailer? Not sure....

I have already taken in OLED in to my heart, it quickly replaced Jesus.
I'm not sure i see the point. Our forefathers had to live with CRT (Cathod Ray Tubes) and low resolutions. Oh my god the humanity!

Some devices are weak LED with fixed formations and only 40 characters long and a height of 4 or so. Oh my god! The humanity!

If you can view content on it, it's probably okay. It may not be the best, the fastest, the cheapest or most expensive, have the most colors, or even be see-through. But who cares?

Going back the early bull$h!t days of crt screens. Whereby oleds are burning the image into the screen forever. The only "fix" is to cook the rest of the pixels to even out the damage. Spending 2k on a screen to have the company selling it disregard me after they have my money seems a bad company to deal with. For context, every oled maker, does not have any interest in fixing these monitors. They expect the customer to trash the burned one and buy a new one.

Which messes up landfills too.

Exactly. OLEDs do look great compared to other stuff, but they are ill suited for static elements (which appear a lot in gaming). Burn-in is still a huge issue and considering the costs compared to standard TN or IPS panels, buying a new screen every 2-3 years at that price premium is simply not worth it for the average gamer.

Well, your latest stream of posts are less spammy than your previous streams of posts, but this is the exact same question you asked about HD gaming (is it obsolete? Is life worth living without 4k?) And other topics like GPUs lately. The concensus is: no one really cares about shiny gimmicky toys here but you.

I use a monitor that is about 6 years old. It has a max resolution of 1080p. I have no idea what sort of technology makes it do its thing. Whether it's LED or powered by dilithium microcrystals from Narnia. And I don't really care.

The black looks black enough for me. Fun sparkly shapes dance about on the screen when I press the buttons and it makes me happy.

It's great!

The end.

Yep - an OLED HDR monitor with all the "nits" and an RTX 3090 will make all the difference to my experience playing HOMM3 or Settlers 2...

Saviour?

Look man, I just want to play games. Too much concentration on the tech ruins the time you spend actually enjoying the content.

If all you can take out of watching a good film or playing a good game is that the screen colour is off, or the blacks aren't quite perfect ... you probably need help. Sure, look into this stuff when you are buying a new rig, then shut that part of your mind off until the next time it's really needed.

Geez. I'm just happy that I can play stuff when I want to, regardless of how "good it looks".

OLED is garbage. It suffers from burn in, and also, it's components die out after a few years since they are organic. And it's ludicrously expensive despite it being trash.

Anyone who buys an OLED display is getting scammed, big-time.

Bunch of people most likely at 60hz with one monitor talking about what's next.

If this is a joke I don't get it. The OP is kinda nutty but he's right that OLED is a wonderful technology that takes away most of LCD's issues. Can't wait until OLED monitors are affordable.
