We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Find what you're looking for faster, easier, and with style.

As some of you have already noticed, today we launched an overhauled navigation system for GOG.com. The goal is simple: to make it faster, simpler, and better for you to explore our store and find what you're looking for.

Browsing our catalog has never been easier: mouse over the Store tab for a neat dropdown menu that contains ongoing sales, a detailed breakdown of our games categories, and several top-tier suggestions.
To bring our games closer to you, we've also made several improvements to our search engine, so locating the title you're after should be much more straightforward now. Those accessing our store through mobile will notice that these changes have dramatically improved their experience, as well.

But that's not all! If you want to reach Support, interact with the Community, or manage your Account, you'll find that the intuitive dropdown menus make for a much more fluid experience, saving you time that could be spent playing your favorite games!

Your account name and avatar are now clearly visible on top at all times, so you can tell at a glance if you're logged in and on which account. Last but not least, redeeming gift codes and switching between languages or currencies is now more readily available with no need to scroll to the bottom of the page.

Enjoy!

BKGaming: [...] I imagine they will keep it like it was with the old notifications. [...]
No offence, but I prefer to get a clear, official answer from GOG now than be unpleasantly surprised in a few weeks time.

BKGaming: On Galaxy we get a different notification for games with disabled updates. When a game has an update, we get a blue dot next to the games name in the game list. This signifies an update is available for the game. It will remain until we manually update.[...]
Does the mentioned "game list" refer to the list of installed games, one's game library, or to (the equivalent of) the "Updated" list of one's library? And has the updates notifications always worked this way, or was it introduced in the new system?

Games with an available update also get a blue dot on the site, but only if they are flagged as such by GOG (one of Judas' tasks), and listed in the "Updated" subcategory/filter. But without notifications, short of checking one's library or following the "What did just update" thread on a daily basis, one can't know that there's an update.

Additionally, two more issues with the current updating system:
- As soon as one opens the game card/details of an updated game in their library (to check the changelog, for example), the game loses its updated status - updated notification (when we got them) and dot vanish, and the game no longer shows in the "Updated" list. So one has either to download the updated installer at that time, or keep notes should they choose to return to it at a later time.
- If a game doesn't get flagged by GOG then it neither gets the blue dot, nor does it make it into the "Updated" list, and there was no notification, of course. This has happened a number of times, even when a game had a changelog.

So, not only do I hope that game updates notifications will be provided on the website, but I also hope that the underlying function will have addressed the issues and shortcomings of the current system.

And given that the game updates notifications work differently on GOG Galaxy and the website, I don't quite get why the system will be rolled out on the website after a testing period on the client - this functionality can't even be tested on the client since it doesn't seem to even exist in that system.
I'd rather not draw any premature conclusions, but I must say that this makes me rather uneasy, so clarification on the matter is required. More so, since that "the client has the feature to test new and upcoming updates" bit in elcook's post makes even less sense in relation to updates and notifications on the website.

I understand. It' is the only way to be sure.

It's on the list of installed games on the left hand side of the screen, not the library. I provided a pic for you to better clarifiy. Easly noticiable and remains until we update. It's always worked this way. We don't get any notification using the new system regarding game updates, Galaxy related or otherwise.

While I can't speak for the underlying mechanics of the new system, I can say that the new notifications is more than just the update mechanic. You get notifications for chat messages, friend request, forum reply's, discounts on wishlisted items, etc. All that can be tested in Galaxy now, and will utilize the same system on the website. And because Galaxy has a opt-in beta feature, GOG can throw features at users that are expecting them to be buggy which is why opting to roll out to Galaxy first will make for an overal less buggy feature in a few weeks. We have already pointed out a few issues with it.

So the only part that would be untested would be the part that is specific to the website and not Galaxy, like notifications for standalone installer updates assuming of course they are added.

So, no way to know if and when standalone installers are updated. GOG's talk always made it sound like GOG Galaxy would be a replacement on par with the GOG Downloader regarding this function, if not an improved version of it, but it seems that it's not the case.

Thanks for the screenshot.

Well Galaxy is a far bigger project that the Downloader, I imagine there is plenty GOG would like to do but there is a lot of basic functionality they need to still get added and fixed before doing so. I also imagine they don't want to bug people to death either, as the vast majority using Galaxy probably don't use standalone installers in conjunction with Galaxy. Though a opt-in feature could be a idea for the future if a user would like standalone installer notifications.

I do know GOG has stated they plan to add the feature to Galaxy were Galaxy will check if it has something downloaded like a manual or installer is current before downloading it again. Which should help from getting duplicate installers that a user already has... a feature I believe the downloader had as well.

elcook: Thanks for your patience, and if you're using GOG Galaxy, please let us know if new notifications work fine.
I got a notification that I have 4 wishlisted games on sale, but there are actually about 30 games on my wishlist that are on sale. Perhaps the notification should say the total number of games that a user has wishlisted on sale rather then the specific number of new games on sale?

Or maybe just a better way of wording that since the notification doesn't tell you what games it's referring too.

Thanks for all the feedback. We do collect it even if I'm not replying to all posts here :) Keep'em coming!

I assume you seen the feedback about bold tags and stuff being messed up? Still that way so I took a pic this time for you...

Nice... hope we are getting close to an official roll out for everyone. xD

Not sure if this will change / be fixed when notifications hit the website but currently if you open a reply in the browser it doesn't dismiss the notification in Galaxy, whereas opening a chat message in the browser does.

HypersomniacLive: And clarifying if notifications for game updates will be provided on the website would be appreciated.
As someone who relies on the web notifications for standalone installers and doesn't use Galaxy, I would like to show support for the continuation of this feature as well.

Changes are good and progress is inevitable, but please, GOG, don't forget about your original customer base - those of us who helped GOG move forward. Many people chose your service because we prefer DRM-free games that don't require a client or an internet connection to play.

It is apparent that a number of us are uncomfortable with the state of things and the direction GOG might be headed. I wouldn't bring this up were I not such a big fan of what GOG is and has been in the past. I don't want to see the company leave half of its patrons behind in favor of another market or business model that is incompatible with their/our needs.

Please retain the option for users to keep track of updates via the website. Please also continue to offer us standalone installers without GOG Galaxy packed into them. And please don't neglect updates for the standalone installers by focusing exclusively on Galaxy updates.

Thank you for allowing me a moment to express some concerns.

The cynic in me says that, unfortunately, this is already underway.
Have the notifications returned? :O

I can see a new bell-shaped icon in the top bar, with a lot of forum notifications.

EDIT: and a friends icon, too.

Yes, it seems the notifications are back. I just got notifications for 24 pending forum replies. The oldest one was from the 17th August and it seems it doesn't matter that I've already read it a long time ago.
