David9855: Amid Evil was awesome and took it's own place but that doesn't hide some games who just want to use a simple old and outdated for a reason engines and cash in on the retro nostalgia craze.

clarry: Such as? I see very very *very* few games developed using old engines. Like, virtually none. Ion Fury is a good example though, and it pulls it off really well. Easily a personal top-20 first person shooter for me.

All the ugly-looking "retro" crap is almost invariably made in Unity and despite looking ugly and dated, it gives you none of the merits of the old engines.

If anything, I'd want to see more games made using old engines.
In theory an 'old engine' is not used anymore due to improvements in a new engine that has been developed, that's the general theory. I as well like old style games especially some of the art styles from around the mid to late 90s, although I don't enjoy some of the 2.5 D games because it is easier to get motion sickness in them over some of the 'truer' 3d engines.

I'll check out this game when its released and see how it has gone and more importantly plays but until then I'm gonna pass.
The game is in development and is improved every day. These old trailers and screenshots don't represent the current state of the game. Not only that, the game has extensive options to customize the look of it. I'd say 99% of people who played it had no issue with the visuals.

Like it's been said, check out the videos made by GMan or Civvie who are masters in retro games and see how they liked it. The game has been greatly improved since, following their feedback.

I think I'm getting too old to enjoy these kind of games, not too much to say more about the style. But good to see there's an audience for it, that's one of the good things about us having indies now. Congrats on the devs for delivering it.

Isn't being old a good reason to enjoy these old style fps games? :p
I can barely even look at this. What on earth...

That's... a good point haha. I feel like I lost my good reflexes over the years (I mostly play turn-based, point&click, etc. games now). Plus, to me, nostalgia can only get you so far (cRPG does it). But you're right, those are only my experiences. :) One thing I'll reiterate to the "young": the indie scene nowadays is fantastic, I could never have imagined such times.

Uh... no. Dude's an alright reviewer (kinda boring, unfunny most of the time) but "master" of retro games, he is not.

That other review is good though. Gimmicky but actually funny.
Is this Unity? Not that it matters, looks like Wolf clone on steroids or something out of PS1 era.

It's Unreal 4.
Gosh.
More and more pixellated games.

Why? Why such obsession?

Why? Why always complaining about games you won't play instead of focusing on games you're really interested in?

1) It's a trade-off. You can spend a lot of time and money on working with HD art or spend that effort on gameplay & content instead. This trade-off is what allows a solo indie artist to churn out all the assets for a game like Terraria or Starbound. (No, quickly slapping together a game from pre-made assets does not look good, it just looks cheap and amateurish. If you purchase pre-made HD art, there's still a ton of work involved in putting it all together into a good and coherent looking whole. And you're fucked if you're reliant on pre-made assets but the game designer wants something that you don't find on the asset store -- suddenly you need a competent 3D artist to create something that looks good and consistent next to all the pre-made art you bought)

2) Some people like the style.
