Really, Is it so difficult to do a minimum of quality control?

For example:
- Why are both Ultima Underworld called "Ultima Underworld I" (in list view)?
- Where are the serial numbers for HOMM V and Two Worlds 2?
- Why are three Blackwell episodes under B and one under T (in list view)?
- Where are "Avernum 6" and "HOMM V Hammers of Fate"?
- Why are neither of the Wing Commander 5 (Prophecy, Secret Ops) games marked as "Wing Commander 5" (in list view)?
- Why are neither of the Realms of Arkania 1+2 (Blade, Star) marked as either "RoA 1" or "RoA 2" (in list view)? Do I really need to remember which is the first and which the second?
- Why are neither of the Lands of Lore 1+2 (Guardians, Throne) marked as either "LoL 1" or "LoL 2" (in list view)? Do I really need to remember which is the first and which the second?
- Why do unbundled Ultima, M&M, Wing Commander, etc. games not carry trademark/registered marks? You know you will have to add them later and you know it'll mess up our library order again.
- Was it absolutely necessary to use a dash for Dracula 1/2/3 and a colon for Dracula 4/5?
- Was it really necessary to separate "Blades of Avernum" from the other Avernum games?
- Is "Wizardry 7 DOS" really a "Wizardry 6" bonus? Really?

I'm tired...

Matruchus: Do you see the games already split? Cause its all the same as it was before in my library for now.
avatar
DyNaer: er , i just did an account refresh , same as earlier , my shelf gained +61 games today ....
That is bad. I don't know what's happening but games like HOMM Chapters and some others are still bundled for me so im happy for now and awaiting with terror gogs experiment to reach me.

Grargar: :snip:
At least all the splitted games have got an own image, can the Catternator confirm that? Or is the Ultima series just an exception?
Finally, Avernum and Geneforge have now unique covers on shelf but I can confirm that Avernum 6 gone missing.

My post does mention which games have the same covers. Those are: Duke Nukem 1+2, Incoming+Incoming Forces, Megarace 1+2, Quest for Glory 1-5 and the Incredible Machine Mega Pack. The rest, thankfully, do have different covers.
Are these changes also the reason why no game shows up as "owned" anymore in the store?

Oops sorry... Thanks! :)
So the majority has own covers, that's good. And they just started this "experiment", so hopefully they will give EVERY game its unique cover, sooner or later.
It means you save time when downloading the separate parts of the bundles after you've waited two hours for the graphics to load on your new bloaty shelf :)

It still fails to me how this being mandatory would please people.
Sometimes GOG seem to have pretty strange points of view on how to please customers.
It looks to me much like the same thing that happened with the prices being converted in local currency. They said they were making it because everyone asked for it while in fact most people was complaining. And i think they ended up doing the right thing by making it optional.
I don't see why this should be different. Just make it optional. I understand it will be an hassle to code, but you either do stuff the right way or you do nothing at all. This half-assed mandatory solution is just making a large part of your customer base annoyed.

I think they're counting on most of that large part to be complacent enough to keep buying games, the others are collateral damage in the big quest to push out their Galaxy client and convert the hordes of Steamheads to throw money at them. I don't think they care too much about most of us forum users because we're the old guard who are here for ideological reasons and we don't have anywhere else to go because there are no real DRM-free alternatives.
So Back to the Future the game won't be unbundled... I don't see why not but ok.

de_Monteynard: and force us to run a million installer to get the final version
Didn't you want good old games? You always had to apply a million patches to them to get the latest version. Now you have gotten that feature back, thanks to GOG. :P

GOG and quality control? :)
Sounds as if you would have missed the last year on GOG completely.

How true ...
Haven't seen the changes made to my game library yet, but from the looks of it, it ended up being a mess so far... If you're going to break up the games that were bundled, you NEED to have a better sorting system than what exists right now..... otherwise it just looks like a muddled mess. I really enjoyed being able to have the expansions be a part of the original installer, and then having the option within the installer to select the full game or the expansions installed (think this was in Syndicate Plus). With them all separated now, doesn't that defeat the purpose of only needing one installer to get a game up and working?

Out of all the games to un-bundle though, I hope F.E.A.R. is separated from it's expansions so that the file doesn't need to be so large to accommodate for stand-alone expansion packs... I like the idea of unbundling games in a sense, but certainly not with the shelf in its current state :(

Hope all the kinks can get worked out ASAP - nothing worse than making things more complicated for the end consumer.

That is indeed quite a list of things that proper quality control really should detect and prevent. I've posted a plea to GOG in the updates forum to request they consider adding more quality control as well, because while I'm fairly patient myself I know if things keep breaking on a daily basis like this which are mostly things that should be easily prevented with QA, they're going to see a huge backlash I fear. Certainly don't want to see that! Hopefully they listen to our pleas.
