Ahhh, I remember the days when I was trying to resist the dot.

Naively thinking there can be some way out, some sort of reprieve or even escape from its perpetual presence. Alas it was not to be, as the dot had other plans. Every time I tried to fight it with the script, it would seemingly disappear, giving me hope, only for it to suddenly come back and crush it mercilessly. It will break your will. It will slowly subvert you with thoughts like "It's just a damn dot, why do you care? Such a little thing...." or "You check the All Forums page for replies anyway, you don't need working reply notifications." Your mental defenses will erode, little by little, until you finally become one with it.

Embrace the dot. Join the ever-growing ranks of the cult. The answer is not to fight it, but to accept it into your heart. The dot asks of nothing in return for its favor, other then being allowed to be seen on your screen. A clear identification sign of every member. Let your worries disappear. It's that simple.
Porco dio.

Hello there!
We've rolled out an experimental fix today that should fix this permanently. Simply visiting the forum thread that triggered the notification should now clear it.
As a cleanup step if you currently have a purple dot in menu please navigate to https://www.gog.com/forum/mysettings and click 'Clear all notifications' button in the bottom left corner. Note that if you do not have any notifications active, then this button will not be visible.

This is a welcome improvement. So far so good.
Wait, someone actually fixed this thing? Whoever managed to patch the dot of doom, thank you.
I had to use 'Clear all notifications' button from 'My Settings' tab. It works! :)
Visiting the topic where notifications appeared worked for me, thanks!

On win 10 edge browser i don't see the button.
Maybe somebody just needs to pm me so i will get rid of the purple dot that way.
Edit: actually it just appeared so no need to pm me.

Well, this topic's about five-and-a-half years old. Anyone have any recollection of how long the problem had existed before that? I mean, my thanks to the web devs and whomever else for it finally being properly(?...) fixed, but taking more than half a decade to fix such an issue is...not great.

The original problem 5.5 years ago only showed up if you had a reply in a thread which was then deleted - in all other cases, visiting the thread would still clear the notification.

But then, 2.5 years ago (hmm - March 2021 looks like from the activity in this thread), clearing by visiting the thread stopped working as well.

I'm assuming that it's that problem which has now been fixed, while the original problem will remain, as without a thread to visit, there's no way to trigger the clearing.

Maybe the new "Clear all notifications' in /mysettings can be used then.

Ah, indeed! Had overlooked that. So yeah, with that workaround they've also fixed that original problem.
Thanks for finally fixing the problem :-)

Ah, thanks. Okay, a quarter of a decade is...certainly less unreasonable than half a decade, I guess.

At any rate: May adaliabooks' thread rest well! At least until GOG breaks these fixes trying to "improve" something else. =P
Can someone quote me so I can finally be free of the circular element of magenta doom?
