syscrusher: ^^^ Given how dirt cheap Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 are going for on Steam during sales, and these titles are ancient and about to be even older when Far Cry 7 debuts, EA might come to realize that opening up a whole new buyer base in GOG could bring in considerable revenue.
Check yerself.

But the Far Cry franchise belongs to Ubisoft.

Indeed, a typo.

Breja: So today's gift is... a link to a page about the shall we say, questionable preservation program.

Wow.

You know, maybe you should figure out how many decent "surprises" you actually have first, and then plan the Anniversary accordingly.
Hello Breja and others wondering about the preservation program link!

Within there todays actual 'gift' can be found:
"Gothic II Vanilla Version" (without the preinstalled Addon "Night of the Raven" and its infamous spike in difficulty) is now accessible and playable for everyone who owns "Gothic II Gold"!

Unfortunately, GOG.COM did not link to the announcement of both Gothic 1 & 2 being treated with some long waited updates / fixes and additional packages (including original installer packages) in the game's extras.
Or better yet, they shoukd have made one of those oldschool blog posts / articles about these new additions and linked to that in the calender!

Of course, I do understand that not everyone is going to be interested in these recent additions, but I assure you, others are happy with these!

And let's be honest, which companies marketing decisions (or implementations) in recent years were not disappointing?
It seems (at least to me) that the majority of current "marketing experts" are totally out of the loop--so to speak.

Anyways...
kind regards,

foxgog

Heh, even Far Cry 4 is down to $4.50 now that Steam has begun its Autumn Sale. Shows to go how cheap the early Far Cry titles have become now that no one must buy them at full price.

Syphon72: Man do people sound like whiny children on here, constantly complaining. Lol

But the again it wouldn't feel like GOG forms without the complaining.
There are a few problems with putting the link to the preservation program behind a gift button:
1. It's not a gift, obviously
2. It's just a link without something new announced on that page
3. Most of the people active here already knew about the page
4. It's pointless and random, as if just for the sake of putting something behind a button

In all seriousness, it could've been a link to a page with a pop-quiz about GOG and (good) old games. Something fun, even if it's not a freebie. But nope, just a link to a known page. :) It's baffling.

That's good idea. I have nothing against doing that.

I've never actually seen the Preservation Program page before. Honestly, it should have just linked to this news post; just have to deal with the fact that the surprise today was for PrevProg games.

If you're upset about GOG not going after more old obscure titles, that's probably a fair complaint. Otherwise, GOG is assuredly working on getting what will sell well, like highly-voted games on the Dreamlist; it just takes longer nowadays because, generally, only games in excessively murky legal situations remain, or publishers not interested in GOG (ever or anymore); EA and Ubisoft come to mind.
There is no real difference between so-called obscure titles and popular ones, exempt the publisher name. The quality often is the same. I have a huge collection of retail copies, and still I miss a lot of old games. The only way to get them (not own them) without buying another retail copy is through abandonware sites. With badly scanned manuals, if any at all, etc. This is a shame for everyone who wants to play and own (without paying ridiculous prices) a certain game. My premise was when joining GOG that they would handle this. But no.

You could try Zoom-Platform too.

So what's today's reveal? Clicking the present does nothing for me.

Today's reveal just links me to the Preservation Program again. So what exactly is the reveal? I assume it's to do with a preservation game again as foxgog stated, but I have no way of figuring that out just glancing at the preservation program page.

...a second link about the preservation program? Seriously?
