After a recent mess, it looks like one thing will be rather obvious.

If Duke Nukem 3D will return to GOG, then it will return to every country in the world. Except Germany, of course.

Lin545: At least 50% of the German population are armed. You need to talk to shooting range owners. ;) But its mostly not automatic weapons, unlike in US.
avatar
MarkoH01: And where do you think they got their weapons (if your numbers are correct which I doubt hardly). Not in Germany that is for sure.
No, he's right, almost the entire German population is armed. Most Germans even have two.

It's already been stated that the same games have been removed from steam.
So I'm curious... are you posting in the steam forums, how 'steam is killing it's German market'?

Pawel1995: I don't understand why people (from Germany) are hating against gog now?! I heard several times that the EXACT same games were "deleted" for germans on Steam, a few weeks ago. Coincidence? I don't think so. Probably some institution from Germany wrote to them, saying that they have to delete these games for Germans, because these games are forbidden?!
1. Those games aren't "forbidden".
2. GOG isn't based in Germany, so government/institutions/etc have zero leverage against GOG.
I'm only guessing obviously, but I really don't get these people saying "gog is killing it's German market." Why would GoG (or also Steam) delete several games for some countries?
Less games = Less money. So the only reason I see, is like I already said, that a law in Germany is forbidding their selling.
It's forbidden for GERMAN online retailers, to sell those items to German customers. GOG isn't German, so...

GOG isn't German but it does have a store based in Germany, which the law probably interprets as "German online retailer".

???

If nothing else, GOG could at least give Germans the option to pay the extra cost of age verification.

And what is your source for this? I don't have a gun and nobody I know have a gun. I also know that it is quite hard to get a gun IN GERMANY (which of course does not mean that some Germans are traveling over the borders to get one or two). I still don't think that the civil people in Germany are mostly heavily armed.

That is a misunderstanding. GOG opened a German Store page but GOG still has no store located in Germany.

Well, I`m not active in the Steam forums. And Steam has had geolocking for more than 10 years. GoG didn`t have geolocking untill they decided to start a german forum.

He probably would if he would care about steam or thinking that steam would care about their customers more than seeing them as wallets on legs which GOG is always telling us they don't do and that they do care.

IMO Gog should say "we have no staff/business/presence in Germany and therefore we are not required to follow German law" and leave it at that. (if they do in fact have such a presence in Germany, they should close down such presence and leave the country)

Even having a German language option or a German language forum wouldn't make GoG somehow subject to German law if they have no physical employees or office or servers or other things in Germany (or in another location subject to German jurisdiction)

I just don't get how some people are saying GOG is evil for blocking games... but it's okay for steam to block games.
