Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store

- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

ksryn: I'm 100% certain the client will crash something within the next 3-4 hours.
avatar
BKGaming: Then yea the best bet is to let them know what your doing and what you have experienced in a bug report on Mantis. ;)
It crashed, again. And yes, I'll raise a report as soon as I'm through with the second test.
avatar
Fallen_Zen: You cannot yet download standalone installers, DLCs or bonus content but this will be added later.
avatar
AnxiousInfusion: In the final version, if you download a standalone installer, will it still be marked as 'installed' and launchable through Galaxy?
Only GOG games installed on your system and detected by Client (which, depending on install path, can happen automatically for standalone installers but will be also doable manually as well) will be marked as installed, meaning you would have to launch the installation yourself if you downloaded the standalone installer.

Actually this flow is present in already (with the exception of downloading the very installer via Client), and as long as the game is supported by current alpha version of the Client (= exists in "My Library" of your client) you can download the installer via browser and once you're done installing it should show in the Client automatically.

JMich: Do raise the bug, especially since it's reproducible. I did download ArmA 2 in a single session, and it is ~16GB. Line at about 10MB, but it still took a few hours to download.
avatar
BKGaming: Can confirm. I also downloaded the same game at 16 GB on version 0.2.0.626 without issue.
I downloaded Blackguards which is around 18.4 GB without problems except the connection speed which was far worse than what it could have been.

avatar
ksryn: How long did the session last? I'm assuming no client restarts. And your broadband connection speed?
My session lasted around 80 min, IIRC. I have a 150 mbit line but I only received about 1/4th of the possible speed when downloading Blackguards through Galaxy.
avatar
BKGaming: Erm, it probably took an hour or two, and as far as I know the client never restarted.
avatar
ksryn: The reason I'm asking is, I think the leak is limited to 400-500MB/hr. It should reach the 2GB 32-bit app limit in 4-5hours. Perhaps, that's why it hasn't come up earlier (people download and close the client before the crash). I'm continuing the divinity 2 dc download from 13% and over the last 100 minutes the PWS has moved from 30,000K to 750,000K. I'm 100% certain the client will crash something within the next 3-4 hours.
Holy sh..! And you download big games with that speed? I wouldn't have the patience.

FYI, if my line speed gets fully used (that means, not through Galaxy at the moment) 500 MB get downloaded in 30 seconds.

blotunga: Does somebody know how to stop installing a game?
Abort function is done internally. So probably it will be available in the next update.

Yay :) That would be nice :)
avatar
blotunga: That's really annoying, especially since it's easy to implement.
It may seem easy without seeing the complexity of the system ;)

Well, as a fellow developer, I know how it is with things that look simple. But still :)

Received an email from the dev saying the bug was reproduced and fixed. So that's that. Still believe it was a memory leak that only affected people with slow connections/long download sessions.

Waiting for the next update so that I can leave big downloads running without the client crashing on me.

Don't really play that many games. I can download about 800MB/hr. So I keep the download going in the background and do something else. Spent 2.5 days downloading Bioshock Infinite a few months back. Haven't found the time to play it yet.

Uncapped bandwidth > 1Mbps is a luxury here. There are providers who charge $15/month for a 512kbps (was 256kbps till the regulator redefined "broadband") line with a bonus of 2mbps for the first 3GB and think they're doing you a favor.

Good stuff.

In my head this is simply a little grey X button that appears when you hover over a game card to right above the name when it downloading or updating. But I know the stuff in my head never happens. Lol xD
Hi guys,

I just installed the client and downloading Fallout 2. Everything seems fine under VAIO Windows 7 Notebook.
I think that client graphically seems clear and pure, only "left side" menu may need more "work".

Well, as everyone already stated client needs pause or cancel option for games which we are downloading.

I just wonder, is there a way to add downloaded setup or show installed directory to client?

For example I already downloaded fallout tactics with gog downloader, do I also need to download with client, too?

For some games with very new offline installers Galaxy will recognize when they have been installed. However, this feature is officially not available yet so it might or might not work on Fallout Tactics.

If it doesn't work and you will have to download the whole game with Galaxy again.

It will work as a long as your path for GOG games is set correct, just have to click install again via library in Galaxy.... Galaxy will only download what is needed. For most games this is true, except a few that are bugged.

Thank you for an invitation!
Everything works well so far on i5 460m and Windows 7x64. Installing, uninstaling as well as updating already existing AvP 2000.
Just to let you know, I can easily get community access through Galaxy, can't post/pm however. I don't think it is implemented yet, I just had to try.. Since it's alpha can't complaining about lack of functions, I'm truly glad to be part of anyway and appreciate great devs work. Wish you all good luck and looking forward next updates (linux, for gog's sake!). Usually I'm online so galaxy will be.
Just one wish, call mr. GabeN to transfer my steamwallet to gog. Thank you! ; )
