Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

First of all, thanks for inviting me to the closed alpha.

My issue is that on OS X 10.10 i cannot change the game installation directory (non-selectable dirs inside my home). The client installs into /Applications and the games probably want to get installed there as well, which i do not prefer since i like my games inside my home (also the client could have been installed for the local user only).

Please advise. Is it something i overlooked or the feature of custom install location is not yet working on mac?

Many thanks.

You can change it to an external volume if you want. Our idea was to let users install games to rather "shared" locations, because when you launch GOG Galaxy from another account, installed games are shared and visible for both. We'll think about adding more options.
Okay, finished all my imports, now gonna do fresh installs of a couple of games that, thanks to setting things up with the client, I have only just noticed that I had somehow forgotten to install before. Few more notes, apologies if they're points already brought up ad nauseum by others!

- It'd be nice and convenient if there was a search function right on the front page of the store tab.
- The left sidebar is cool and all, but it'd be great if we could resize or even completely hide it, as well as be able to manually sort the list.
- The image cards for the different versions of Star Wars: Tie Fighter are showing as perpetually loading for some reason.
- The VGA version of Police Quest 1 seems to be missing from my library on both the client and the site. Not sure if this was an intentional removal or if it's something more like the magically disappearing/reappearing Fallout issue I've seen other folks talk about?
- Penumbra - Requiem shows as not yet available to install, but apparently installs alongside Penumbra - Black Plague anyway. Again, not sure if this is intentional, but hopefully it's only temporary either way.
- Uru: Complete Chronicles is apparently also currently unavailable for install through the client. Sad face. :(
- Having the client start up when I turn on my computer is cool and fine and wonderful. Having it actually open up in a window on startup isn't. Not sure if there's a way I can stop this from happening on my end, but if there isn't, it be nice to either have it just stay minimized in the tray as default or be able to toggle it to do so in the options.

Anywho, keep up the good work!

Hello GoG Team, thanks for inviting me to the closed alpha, very appreciated. I've read that I can import my already installed game to the Galaxy client but it just download the game again, or just it seems like that, it takes a lot of time even with very small games, but it's an alpha so nothing I'm worried about, just to let you know.

This client is far better than the launcher, that's for sure.

Though the extras section is currently useless. When I downloaded the 1998 version of Akalabeth: World of Doom (which is an extra for anybody who has the original bought it here) it won't install and after you do manually, it adds a duplicate, which does not receive data. This can be annoying for some.
Got my invite last night thanks.

Installed fine no problem and seems to be running ok. Trying now to break it by installing a stack of games.
Did notice not all games are showing up such as pillars of eternity.

Interface looks good though and seems stable so far.
I like the client so far.
Maybe you guys/gals can add detailed release notes to this thread?
- Hella-slow to launch offline. Shorter timeout, please.
- Option to force offline-mode, even when online (maybe I'm tethered to my phone and don't want to use up my precious mobile data.)
- Offline mode is, uhh, awkwardly minimal. Cache shelf for offline browsing but some sort of X or something kinda icon to indicate which games are currently not installed.

- Download option for games unsupported on current platform (I have been downloading all versions from my Mac but Galaxy doesn't seem to allow access to an item unless there is a Mac port.)
- While we're at it, how about a big ol' "download all" button? That's all I really want, really.

- Accept EULA once per client update (à la iTunes.)
- Having said that; make it accessible for reference sake from the account menu.

- Additionally, it would be nice to (optionally) archive older versions. (For example, I still treasure the first Mac release of Fallout (yeah, the DOS one (thank you very much for snatching that away from me (but I digress.))))
Yay! I got to install the client today too :-D

Is the client meant to save game installers after the game is already installed?

Prior to this, I've been downloading game installers to my external hard drive and then installing them on my C: drive when I want to play them. In the client I set the folder on the external hard drive as the download folder and the C: drive folder as the install folder. Then I downloaded a game through the client and the game installed fine, but the installer was not on the external hard drive when I checked. Is this how it is meant to work?

As far as I know, downloading a game through Galaxy does not result in an installer. That's because you don't download game installers instead you download game files and install scripts. So when a game update is released, instead of downloading an updated installer and the whole game again, the client only downloads the altered files thus saving bandwidth and time.

If you want to backup the installer, you can, but go to Extras then download the stand-alone installer from there.

Thanks for the quick response, it makes sense for shared workstations. I don't have multiple accounts on my mac but wouldn't all userids need to be privileged (Admin) in order to have write access to /Applications? If i were to share my mac, i certainly would not let others to have privileged userids. External volume is out of question in my case, osx runs on the SSD and the second disk (HDD) is an occupied ntfs partition which would not provide the desired performance.
I just received an invitation to the galaxy alpha, but I never signed up for it. Not sure what's up with that. Are invitation being sent to all users now?

It could be the case that you have a game in your library that is supported by the Galaxy client, in my case it was Alien vs. Predator Classic 2000 therefore you might receive an invitation.

It is most certainly the case.

I was under the impression that the galaxy alpha was for people willing to bugtest and wanted to be invested in the whole thing, not for random users with games that use galaxy multiplayer.
Hi, there - good morning

I have the following problem with Galaxy: I can neither import nor download any game. Everytime I try, Galaxy tells me that Im having insufficient Hard Disk Memory, which is actually more or less impossible ... the partition Galaxy is installed on has 1.6 TB of free memory.Does anyone have an idea, what that might be ? I already tried starting in Admin mode etc pp.

thx in advance
