Update 1.2 brings Universal Cloud Saves, the option to fully customize the Client to your needs, and much more!

NOTICE: The update is now live for everyone. Make sure to check it out and tell us what you think!

GOG Galaxy, our gamer-friendly Client, is coming out of beta with a major new update that greatly improves and enriches the user experience by introducing many long-awaited features. Let's take a closer look at some of them:

The highlight of Update 1.2 is, of course, the Universal Cloud Saves. This new feature makes it possible to add cloud saving functionality not only to new games but also to titles that never offered cloud saving before. Thanks to this, excellent games like Planescape: Torment, Heroes of Might & Magic® III, or Vampire®: the Masquerade - Bloodlines gain the benefits of saves syncing and cloud backup for the first time ever. Of course, if you prefer to keep your precious saves close at hand, your data is still saved locally for you to use, while GOG Galaxy also lets you download a backup of your saves at any time.

This huge Update introduces the option to customize the Client to your needs by selecting which features you want to use. In addition, there is a brand new hibernate mode that cuts down on Client CPU usage while playing a game and saves resources as well as battery life when idling in the background. We also went through the GOG Galaxy community wishlist and packed Update 1.2 with some of the most-requested features, including bandwidth limiting and scheduling, FPS counter, screenshot capturing, a sleek in-game overlay, achievement rarity, desktop and in-game notifications system, a new chat, and more!

Very nice update, cloud saves will be really useful when I forget to make my own backups. I find the text in the settings window very hard to read, nearly transparent. It would be great if it was possible to customize the client, not just features but how it actually looks. Like light and dark colours, font size etc.

I can't seem to find where you enable the FPS counter, I guess it isn't implemented yet. Nice to see you got a changelog now, would be great to see a roadmap as well.
just a big thank you to you for gog galaxy :)

First of all, a huge thank you to GOG for all their hard work. It's really appreciated a lot.

However...

Is it feasible for us Linux users to hope that Galaxy leaving beta means that we can expect a native Linux version of Galaxy any time soon, like maybe some time this year?

Wishbone: Why doesn't it simply do both? This sounds like if I start a game that uses cloud saves, and I want to continue it later at a time when I won't have an internet connection, I have to remember to manually download a backup of my save data beforehand. If this is the case, the cloud save functionality seems pretty useless.

Johny.: If you'll play offline - Galaxy Client will sync your saves later when you're online.
You can just download your cloud saves as a backup to a single folder - as an additional feature.
Excellent :-)

That's a much better explanation than the one in the OP, which made it sound like games using cloud save only use cloud save.

I'm not bothered by it not working on Linux, but I'm pretty bothered by GOG not providing any updates and basically ignoring the subject.
I must say, I had some misgivings about Galaxy, considered it unnecessary bloatware, but in the end I found it useful for tracking achievements and playtime. Cloud saves are just what it sorely needed, and as more games are added, it will become indispensable for those 20+ hour games.

This gives me headache, too... Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for these cool updates, even if I can't use them... However I think that I am not too demaning if I ask for an official statement regarding a Linux version.
I hope most people will try and use Galaxy now. It really makes things easier.

Yeah, we really need an update on that one. It's been listed as "in progress" on the wishlist for a ridiculous amount of time. In that time, itch.io released a client and had it working on Linux from the beginning. Why are we still waiting? Especially with so much of the GOG userbase on Linux or moving to it.

Once you guys bring Galaxy to Linux I'll glady install in on my (and I quote) Linux "htpc". So many stunning games I'd love to see on the big screen, so many gems.
And Galaxy surely made GOG gaming experience a whole lot better. With these amazing features I can't even describe how greatly the whole experience will be improved.

I'm waiting for something more practical on the big screen so I can finally play my dearly loved Linux games I got in here and the only horizontal machine hooked to the tv is an htpc. Got me some wireless trackballs, lap keyboard and mouse, too. I'm excited and I'm waiting patiently.

I know GOG won't let us down in this matter ;)
My one bugbear about galaxy has been the inability to throttle downloads so having that ability arrive with 1.2 is a good thing to see.

Now its leaving beta hopefully more devs will see it as a viable platform for crossplay on the PC and we won't face situations like with Necropolis where multiplayer was benched (dropped?) between gog and steam.

Not trying to be heretic in here but I've been testing 50+ GOG games with my (*gasp*) Steam Controller.
IT'S AWESOME. After some brief hiatus, World Rally Fever was one of my first purchases in here. Works out of the box perfectly, just like the vast majority of games I'm giving a go.

Six years later, this title + that controller + a big tv = endless fun. It gave my GOG library a whole new perspective!
