Update 1.2 brings Universal Cloud Saves, the option to fully customize the Client to your needs, and much more!

NOTICE: The update is now live for everyone. Make sure to check it out and tell us what you think!

GOG Galaxy, our gamer-friendly Client, is coming out of beta with a major new update that greatly improves and enriches the user experience by introducing many long-awaited features. Let's take a closer look at some of them:

The highlight of Update 1.2 is, of course, the Universal Cloud Saves. This new feature makes it possible to add cloud saving functionality not only to new games but also to titles that never offered cloud saving before. Thanks to this, excellent games like Planescape: Torment, Heroes of Might & Magic® III, or Vampire®: the Masquerade - Bloodlines gain the benefits of saves syncing and cloud backup for the first time ever. Of course, if you prefer to keep your precious saves close at hand, your data is still saved locally for you to use, while GOG Galaxy also lets you download a backup of your saves at any time.

This huge Update introduces the option to customize the Client to your needs by selecting which features you want to use. In addition, there is a brand new hibernate mode that cuts down on Client CPU usage while playing a game and saves resources as well as battery life when idling in the background. We also went through the GOG Galaxy community wishlist and packed Update 1.2 with some of the most-requested features, including bandwidth limiting and scheduling, FPS counter, screenshot capturing, a sleek in-game overlay, achievement rarity, desktop and in-game notifications system, a new chat, and more!

The GOG Galaxy Update 1.2 is now available for all users. To download GOG Galaxy or see what’s new and improved visit GOG.com/Galaxy.

Good thing that it's leaving Beta.

But don't forget, GOG: Galaxy must remain ALWAYS OPTIONAL.

I'm a Galaxy user but I have to rely on GOG installers for my netbook when I go to places with lousy or no net connection.
Great and grats !!!

I love Steam, I have thousands of games there, but they are many things missing in this client.

So it's good to have a competitive alternative so that one day it will push Steam to be much better.

So I frequently add some old games on my gog account and I love to see how much you improve.

Some things I would really like is :

- a chat system for the game you are playing, something like the game Crusaders of the lost idols, It helps to build a community. Steam has it but not on all games and it's quite hidden.

- a community shared "agenda" system where anyone could add events for a game he has bought, like that people could know when there is a multiplayer session, or chat sessions, etc. That would help some old game to build their community. We need the Facebook of gamers, steam hasn't take the role: you could do it :)

Also, it has nothing to do with GOGG, but there is a new Star Trek series coming: would be a good time to add a lot of Star Trek games you are missing.

It's not just friends, it's everyone. If you're in someone's website PM list (even if you have them blocked), they see what you're playing through Galaxy.
This seems like impressive jump in terms of features.

It's been a bit unstable for me for the past month. Nothing concrete I could point at or file bugs about. Several instances of "GalaxyClientHelper.exe has crashed". Galaxy showing "you have no games installed" when started (corrected itself a minute or two later). Few times I saw galaxy restarting (or whitening it's screen, to restore it some time later) in the background, when I was playing some windowed game in the foreground. Not tracking game time or achivements (this one was on the "stable" version that somehow got enabled, once I reenabled preview updates it started to work again). On the good side, it never ate any of my data or saved games or anything like that, ever (and I've been using it regularly for more than a year).

I'll give it a go when I get home.

^This.
Great update, love the refined visuals and all the features look really promising, but is anyone else unable to access the overlay? My screen flashes slightly brighter when I press the buttons, but nothing actually appears.

EDIT - Ah, I missed the "in supported games" on the features list. I likely do not have any supported games or just haven't tried one that is.

It means that I agree with the above and kind-of repeat the statement/question.

Oh okay. That is not what it says in French. I was wondering what you wanted me to see. Thanks for the explanation. :)
For those who didn't receive the 1.2 update yet you have "Use preview updates" enabled, disable it and then re-enable to get it.

"This" means "I want to say/ask this as well"

Where did the option go to completely close the client on hitting "X"? That's a step back.
