Hydrophobia Prophecy - Update:

It appears that I am at or near the very end of the game because the difficulty of proceeding has went up a fair bit compared to most of the rest of the game. I've attempted the area I'm in several times but got stomped badly. The problem is that one of the areas in which this game suffers is the weapon systems and ballistics are very unrealistic. You have a single gun more or less but choose what type of ammo you wish to use from about 5 or 6 different types. There is the default unlimited "sonic" ammo which you hold the trigger down and wait for it to charge up, then let it go. The problem is that you have to wait a bit for it to charge up which is lag time while enemies are shooting you and ducking for cover.

Next is the fact that the game is in a third-person perspective, and when you are near the cover of a wall or similar, your character does not reach around the wall to shoot. Even though you have a clear visual path between your gun and the enemy, when you actually shoot it, most of the time the wall which is off to the left ends up taking the bullet. You're forced to expose a major part of your body in order to shoot around objects. No matter what ammo type you select, the muzzle velocity of the rounds is so slow that you can see the bullets travel from point A to B. The enemies literally can outrun your bullets and hide behind cover. It has a very unrealistic weapon system that is unpleasant and does not react like real weapons would even in video game context. You may be holding a gun but you get a feeling that it is more like a slingshot, however a rock fired from a wrist-rocket slingshot would probably travel at a higher velocity than the bullets in the weapon in this game. :)

So, I'm biding my time trying to figure out the best way to proceed from one piece of cover to another, if I get hit to wait for the game to recharge my health before proceeding, etc. It's feeling a little mechanical rather than immersive currently, but I have made some progress. Problem is though that this game is entirely checkpoint based, so no save games. If it had save games, I'd be saving immediately after every successful kill where my game state is in my favour. Instead, I must proceed with caution and hope the next checkpoint isn't far away. :)

This is probably my 4th or 5th day of attempting getting past this spot. With a little more endurance I probably could have finished it by now, however each time I've sat down to play it was at the end of the day when I was in "brain fart" mode so I didn't give it any gusto. Today though I am bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (no idea where that expression came from, I think it is old though) and ready to rock n roll. With any luck, I can clear this puppy and cross it off the backlog list. :)

In other progress news: Half-life: Opposing Force and Half-life: Blue Shift
In the mean time over the last week I was experimenting with Half-life: Opposing Force to pimp out the graphics configuration a bit and ended up playing my game-in-progress. A few minutes turned into an hour, which turned into 2 hours, which turned into 4 hours, which turned into 8 hours. Yes, my hours turn into longer time periods in powers of two. Anyhow, I had a vibe going so I went with it and made major progress in my game. The next day later I continued from there and ended up finally completing the game after 16 years or however long its been since that game came out, and did so on the hardest difficulty level.

After playing that game for 2 days and finally beating it though, I still had some Valve love in me so I decided to install Half-life: Blue Shift since it is about half as long as Opposing Force was, so I figured perhaps I could put two games to rest in one gaming sweep. I played through half the game on the hardest difficulty the first day, then the next day I completed the game as well. So that's two long-time games from nostalgia land that I was able to finally put to rest!

Now that my tea-break is complete, it's time to head back to Hydrophobia and plough through the rest of it hopefully. Hopefully I'll have a crowning victory to report in a few hours. :)

I just love those expressions you used. I feel like I learned something good
So I managed to beat The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena this weekend and I must say that its very similar ( It's a sequel after all :-P) to the first game except that the weapons and the graphics look a little better.

If a Gentelman would chose my next game I wpuld be very happy:

Excellent, well done! Would you recommend this game to a FPS-newbie? :)
I step forward and choose Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance for you. I have played both campaigns and still play its multiplayer - for me, it's a nicer looking version of Total Annihilation. A worthwhile RTS, I can only recommend! :)

I can also give a...
Progress update on Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
Assigned by Dessimu

I am almost 60 hours in and this game just keeps on going and going and going... ;) Which is a very good thing, indeed!

After winning in the Provings and obliterating Jarvia's Carta, my party, consisting of Wynne, Shale and Oghren, ventured forth into the Deep Roads, once the veins of the ancient dwarven kingdom - now overrun with Darkspawn. Battle after battle followed and deeper and deeper we traveled, finding treasures and monsters alike. In the end, I sided with Paragorn Caridin and destroyed the Anvil of the Void, helping Harrowmont to the throne of Orzammar. The assistance of the dwarven armies in the forthcoming battle against the archdemon is therefore secured.

Upon finishing that, I decided to look into some of the DLC-content and returned to Ostagar to reclaim the arms and armor of the fallen king Cailan and the Grey Warden Duncan. Moreover, I have reclaimed the lost Warden fortress of Soldier's Peak and have now access to some of the very best gear of the game. Sadly, I read that most of that will not be carried over to Awakening, when you choose to import your own character. Well, I think I can live with that ;)

I visited Denerim to fulfill some smaller quests and have now arrived in the village of Haven in my pursuit of the fabled Urn of Sacred Ashes to help the Arl of Redcliffe.

Still, there is a lot to do the lands of Ferelden! :)

Cheers, fellow gentlemen!

I would definitely recommend it to a newbie, because it is a good mix between action and stealh.

Challenge accepted! Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance shall it be.I haven't played any RTS games for a good while .

mindblast - Thief Gold
Hunter65536 - Torchlight 2
Tannath - Sam & Max Hit the Road
Messi_is_Messiah - Thief
Random_Coffee - Commandos
moho_00 - Silver
BruceLeeForever - Ultima 7
Dessimu - Blackguards Special Edition
Nymes - Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
Magnitus - Mark of the Ninja Special Edition

Bass47 - Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance
skeletonbow - Hydrophobia Prophecy
Progress update on Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars:

I've completed the second chapter (Ireland) and the characters and the writing are still top-notch (even if there were some minor flaws at the end of the act). I also like thhe music, which is very dynamic and reflects the situations on the screen very well. But like the voice-acting the volume level isn't balanced very well.

The puzzles are still quite easy, the only one that was annoying by now was the one with the goat. I had to use a walkthrough just to find out that I've already tried the correct thing right in the beginning, but failed because my timing wasn't perfect.

Hi Nymes, can you chose another game for me because I don't like Supreme Commander very much :/ ?

You actually solved the goat puzzle by yourself? It counts among the legendary unfair puzzles because it's so different from everything else in the game. Just google it and feel the rage of the players ;-)

I've noticed the volume/loudness problem as well when I played the classic version. I suspect it's a problem with the re-encoded GOG version. I have the original, but German, version on disk and the sound is perfect.

No problem, Bass47! I assume it is one of those games that just is not for everyone ;)
As you said that you haven't played a RTS title for quite some time, I will choose Battle Realms + Winter of the Wolf for you. It is one of those games I also really would like to play and is supposedly a great game with some interesting mechanics.
I hope you will enjoy it! :)

Cheers!
Thank you for your understanding, I'll be back with a progress update as soon sa possible :-).
Just finished Witcher 3(although yet played the DLC), I didn't decide what will be the next to playing, so here again.
My backlog was rapidly shrink because I hardly buy new games recently. At least RPGs were almost finished.
I'm often playing Tropico 1 but this game don't have proper ending as with many strategy/builder games, so don't make it in the list.

Beneath a Steel Sky
X3 Terran Conflict
Wizardly 7
Pillars of Eternity
Saints Row 2
else Heart.Break()

Please take one for me.

Witcher 3 - nice! Since I happen to bump myself in here, I should suggest either Wizardly 7 or else Heart.Break. I myself played neither of them, yet I am interested to give a good round for each. May I suggest else Heart.Break?
Small progress update on Broken Sword:

I didn't play any games for the last few days, because I lay down in bed with the flu and I either was asleep or I felt so weak that even turning on the computer would have been too much work (not to speak about the headache that doesn't help when you try to concentrate on something).

Today I felt better and I continued my search for the Templars. Made it to Syria. I had a little trouble with the clown juggler puzzle, but that wasn't because it was overly hard, but because my mind was still a little lazy (and probably not sure if that ugly clown was real or just a remain from my feverish mind). Everything else was fine, even if I think that the story feels a little rushed at times.

Challenge accepted! I've already played else Heart.Break() a bit.
This game is really innovative. Hacking the objects(computer, trash can, beer and so on), the player actually have to write real programming codes.
For example, I modified(Hacked) hotels' computer to unlock the doors. That's really cool.
I feel game's language is similar to Python.
However the downside of the game is talking dialogues are rather poor and meaningless.
I am already quite like the game.

@PaterAlf
Take care yourself.
