cr1ogen: The witcher 3, will coming for Linux?
Thanks
Well, it was included in the SteamOS sale, so... I say it's a yes. Not on day one, I believe.

That's not a confirmation. I'm still waiting for the public announcement from CD Projekt Red, and they still hesitate to make it.

Gotta agree with you.
But someone as big as Valve saying for the second time "W3 will be on SteamOS" I could say that's a solid hint :P
And that infamous eOn wrapper for The Witcher 2, oh boy... that's even more than your usual hint, I'd say.
But a confirmation is a confirmation! ;)

Well, CDPR did reply to an e-mail to them, and said that they indeed plan the Linux version, and you can pre-order on GOG now and will get it in the future when it will come out. However it's still not equivalent to the public announcement.

Feel free to spam the Linux questions on this thread, hopefully will be included in the upcoming FAQ :D

You don't have to create an account, just use your GOG login info.

I hadn't heard about this. When was this, and whose email? I'm just thinking that if they have concrete plans, why don't they announce it? I'd love to get a definite yay or nay on this, a rough time estimate would be even better.

I asked them (contact: "Business inquiries" <biz@cdprojektred.com> as listed here: http://en.cdprojektred.com/press/)

You can ask too, and they'll hopefully reply. But it's still not the same as public announcement. Better than nothing though. I'm not sure why they can't announce it formally. May be some plans aren't finalized (like exact release date) and so on. I assume the project is still in early development, so expecting the exact date might be too early.

Perhaps they have not settled on whom will be doing the port....

(PLEASE, Aspyre or Feral and not VP)

I think Bioshock Infinite is a VP job and it is perfectly fine :)

Except there is no DRM-free version, but yeah, most report it as having decent performance. Still, I'd prefer CDPR to make a native backend for their engine instead of wrapping all that Windows only stuff. Ideally may be they can use Vulkan in the future.

Well as for me.... On Linux I'm only getting 65-70% the FPS I get on the same hardware with Win 8.1. Then there are the graphical bugs, broken Vsync and AA.

It's great the port is working well for you but I'm still quite leery of VP ports.

Feel free to comment to 2K that you want Bioshock Infinite on GOG too: http://forums.2k.com/showthread.php?1473556-With-Linux-version-out-please-release-Bioshock-Infinite-on-GOG!

I see, I didn't compare to Windows.

Sure native would be better but still VP is better than nothing. The best use for wrapping techniques would be to port older games though and not brand new ones. Or at least it sounds logical that way :)

Wrap jobs might be sensible for some older titles (say, 2012 and older) but I don't ever want to go back to more recent games being "ported" to Linux via wrappers.

For me the worrying thing is there are some in the community who seem bizarrely supportive of the practice....
