nightcraw1er.488: Nightwish - anything from the Tarja days.
The love the Century Child album. It's a real piece of work. My favourite of theres is Dark Passion Play, so much variety.
And now that's original to me; a music giveaway! For some reason, Gamma Ray never appealed to me much, although I listen to similar bands like Blind Guardian, Helloween, Manowar, Grave Digger and the likes. Anyway, thanks for the giveaway but not in! Currently I'm listening to Arcturus (one of my favourite bands from their early beginnings) and their latest single "The Arcturian Sign" while waiting patiently to get my hands on the full album ("Arcturian").

If you're interested, just click the link -> https://youtu.be/2uWIg5hI7hE

Cheers!
I'd say that my favourite band in recent years is Delain, but I'm listening more to Amaranthe and Serenity's War of Ages these days, which have power metal elements, so what I listened to now from Gamma Ray's music appealed to me, even though I prefer vocalists with a clear, warm voice.

Thanks for the giveaway.
Shamefully, not heard of them before.
Either way, I'm more into prog/power/symphonic/folk metal and the like, so my favourite metal bands include stuff like Blind Guardian (also from Germany), Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Nightwish, etc.

As a side note, it is a pity that so few of the major music sites sell flac albums :(.

Not in, but thanks!

Cracking band Blind Guardian, Nightfall in middle earth particularly.

darthspudius: Ghost Love Score off Once for me, hits the over dramatic mark. Mind you there is something for every occasion, Roll Tide for instance is quite good when building up to a boss fight. Inis Mona and Slania by Eluvite are also up in the top ten currently.
Off topic as bit, does anyone still go to festivals? Didn't go last year, but went to Graspop (Belgium) for 4 years on the trot. Wacken always seems sold out, any thoughts on other good ones.

To be honest, I would had UK had good music festivals. It's all hipster crap over here.

I have Delain's first three albums and they are very good. A little bit ordinary in places but the talent is obvious.

Try The Human Contradiction. To me it's better than the first ones in some ways (musically, but I think they had some stronger lyrics in earlier albums).

I've never heard of Gamma Ray, but I really liked the song you posted. I'll definitely check them out now. As for some of my favorite metal bands and songs:

Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Bal Sagoth - Starfire Burning Upon The Ice Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule
Blind Guardian - Nightfall
Amon Amarth - Runes to My Memory

I listen to lots of different genres. Lately I've been listening to 80s metal like Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road, Helstar. But I also listen to non-metal stuff, like classical, progressive rock, some country, psychedelic.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the shit out of them haha. I have just heard so many bands in the Symphonic metal style that it's all similar in my head haha. I remember when the sub genre was new, ah i'm getting old.

Epica's latest was pretty damn awesome whilst we're talking about this style of music. The mix of classical, opera vocals and that heavy heavy guitar work is just intense.

If I were a gamma ray, a gamma gamma gamma ray; made of pure existence
If I were a gamma ray, a gamma gamma gamma; ray mighty and unfailing
I'd radiate love, to fight misery

Without a body I could fly 'round the world
Destroying arms, destroying rockets
Mix up complexions of the whole human race
We all would turn into chocolate people

Everybody, everywhere in the whole world

Sorry, that's the only thing that comes to my mind upon reading the words "gamma ray". What was this thread about again?

The band actually covered that song. Love it!

The problem is I dislike operaic metal, and that's most of symphonic metal.

Yet you like Delain. Strange. :P

Delain is not operaic. I also like classical music but not opera. I just don't like that style of singing.

It does grind on me quite a bit aswell I must admit. Tarja Turunen of ex nightwish gets on my nerves a little for her singing style.
