chevkoch: Thank god I don't own half of the catalog on here; those with a huge library I don't envy when it comes to backing up all "classic" installers, before those might possibly vanish in the future.
We use tools the community provided, as GOG either didnt cared, was to incompetent or too lazy to create them for us.

Well, English is not my first language, so I will try to make myself clear. What I meant was: if standard procedures (like a company-made installler and its GUI) that are used by customers (for years, maybe) are changed, this should be communicated some weeks in advance and in a popular place, which would be the main (or entry) site of GOG. Alternatively, it may be mailed to all customers as an important change in the system.
A statement written somewhere in some forum that no customer is obliged to read is no official information.

Peter.

Thank you, I had heard about these tools in passing, but initially thought it wouldn't be that much of a hassle if doing it manually. Then I just kept powering through. Good to know these exist, for those with a myriad of games it sure seems the only manageable solution.
Seems to me they have no intention of adding such an option.

I have 1 request of Gog.....

Stop treating your customers like idiots and be HONEST with us - are you intending on going Galaxy only or not ?

As CD Projekt RED makes world class games and is truly respected, I have never understood why / how they let their sister company cause confusion and mayhem for their customers due to lack of information / honesty.

I don't mind Galaxy, but for goodness sake, ALWAYS give us access to non Galaxy installers please. Drive space is limited for most, and purposely spamming Galaxy (should non Galaxy installers be stopped) makes you look desperate and depreciates from your reputation.

JMich: 1) It's not vital information about the games you own.
I quit. You must be just trolling me. There is no other way this is happening.

From one side I understand GOG needs to push Galaxy more in the spotlight to be able to bring more games here and put up some competition. Because honestly, I agree with them that without Galaxy we might not have some titles here and I thank them for their effort.

However, unfortunately it seems they're pushing it too hard and in the wrong way and the customers are paying the price. Personally I don't mind clicking the 'more > classic installers' procedure but as has been said, not everyone reads the forums and can easily end up downloading the Galaxy installer by mistake.

For the record I'm the first to fall into it this evening (and heck I lurk the forums every evening), I downloaded the Galaxy-filled Stardew Valley as soon as I got home, without even knowing there's a Classic Installer button, which then I discovered only thanks to this thread.

My Suggestion to GOG:

Don't bury the classic installer in the 'More' button, make it somewhere visible where it can be easily accessed and please, make an announcement about it so people can at least be informed of the changes.

I just accidentally did this with Turok 2, had to redownload it again.

tinyE: motherfucker! For the third time in three days Stardew Valley has been updated and for the third time in three days I have ended up downloading fucking Galaxy!

Do you fucking people at GOG need to pass an illiteracy test to get a job there!? I shouldn't have to keep reminding myself to change my fucking download setting because of your fucking incompetence and complete fucking disregard for the people that use your site.

Over 800 games and this is how you thank me, you fuck me.

Even if I had and used Galaxy, which at this point I'd rather remove my lungs with a fork, what makes you think I need 500 fucking copies of the Galaxy installer on my hardrive?
Oooooooeeeeeeeee, girl you use such bad language but then again you have special privileges don't you.

"CD Project Red" is the reason for all the negative changes here and GOG has to try sugar-coating it.

First region locked game on GOG? Witcher 2 by CDPR
First regionally priced game on GOG? Witcher 2 by CDPR
First game that came with Galaxy? Witcher 3 by CDPR
First completely online and Galaxy dependent game? GWENT by CDPR
(Actually it was "The Witcher Adventure Game", also by CDPR, but was changed later)
First microtransactions? GWENT by CDPR

The sister company has gone full AAA-studio and the parent company wants GOG to comply, at least that's how I see it.
If every person in this (and the other "official" we want you to download our drm filled installer) would stop to buy any game for let's say 6 months, guess what might happen?! GOG could be forced to meet your demands and make a flag, so,everyone can choose the default installer. But since I think, this will obly last till the next discount, GOG can and will rightfully go on that way they are doing for at least 2 years now. Just my 2 cents.

That's an interesting thought, but since the forum users actually only represent a tiny fraction of the entire GOG customer base, it's highly doubtful this would have any real impact at all. IMO.

Sounds legit. I buy this.
Imagine that only because a lot of users threatened them to leave we now even have the hidden option to download the classic installer.
