tinyE: I can't believe the nerve of the GOG support team; refusing to reply to such kind, rational, and respectfully worded gripes such as those delivered by our Russian friend there. :D
Thanks tinyE. My middle name is "Negotiator". ;)

triple_l: FEAR is a masterpiece, and GOG for the first time ever made it available DRM-Free
I had the original DVD release of F.E.A.R and it was DRM-Free? Maybe you mean Digital release? I have it on Steam as well, and I'm pretty sure there is nothing (apart from Steam, obviously) over there either?

No argument on the masterpiece comment. Well, only to completely agree. As a general rule I am usually instantly disinterested in anything FPS. I consider it a flawed by design. I could count the FPS I thought were genuinely interesting on the fingers of a blind butcher. Then F.E.A.R was released and to this day stands as the perfect exception to the rule. I've bought it so many times. Original DVD release for PC, Collector's Edition, XBOX360, STEAM, and will buy it again on GOG once it hits a sale.

Looks like still no one is giving a fuck from GOG. No more money from me, my friends.

After exactly 2 month NOTHING has happened. That's the GOG I know over the last 1 to 2 years.
I have a question, why did anyone click on the multiplayer button at all?

I thought the built in multiplayer was discontinued years ago and was later released as a free download.

I was wondering the same thing.
Way blame the victim. There should be no multiplayer buttion if it should not be "pressed". BUT THERE IS.

Everyone knows you can't have a "red button" to which you say "don't push"..

and how do you know they have the means to remove a option from the main menu itself? Fact it that is was well documented that FEAR lost its multiplayer feature meaning there was no need at all to select the option in the first place.

WTF!?

Your system gets infected with SecuROM so you come in and post a scene from the "5th Element" thus infecting the whole forum with unwatchable crap! That's not fair!

I tried to watch it recently. The opening scenes were awful so I stopped. :l

Yeah they likely have no way to remove MP from the menu.

I'd just delete FEARMP.exe and replace it with my own utility that pops up a message that says multiplayer is no longer available and possibly a link to fearcombat.org, then relaunch the single player executable. Easy as pie, unless there's some legal bullshit they gotta deal with from the publisher.

I also wouldn't worry about automating removal of securom, the files F.E.A.R installs aren't dangerous in any way, just a pain in the ass to get rid of. It's easy enough for someone to do if they want with instructions from support or in this thread.

EDIT: I actually just made a FEARMP.exe replacement utility because I was curious and bored, it works. I thought the single player might detect my replacement FEARMP.exe was fake, but nope it doesn't care.

NoxTM: I don't think the question really matters in the slightest in regards to the issue (and, intentional or not, does come across as victim-blaming, as mentioned by a fellow user); maybe he thought MP would work. Maybe he was bored. Maybe he was high on Lemsip. Maybe his dog dropped a bone on it. Maybe a purple-headed Gyles Brandreth forced him to press it. The button is there, it can be pressed, and it does less-than-stellar things (albeit things that doesn't seem as bad as they could be). The testing should have caught it. If it can't be 'fixed' it should have been documented, at least. Forewarned is forearmed.

GOG on the whole is great but I think it's absolutely right they be held to account as a (the?) DRM-free service (and for quality re: online games distribution generally); it keeps them on their toes and holds a standard.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe they hadn't even touched the Multiplayer feature knowing it woudn't work?!
