bluethief: Yeah, I liked Battlefront 2 campaign as well, but the Titanfall 2 one is on another level. Such a great game, the only downside is that it's too short.
avatar
MysterD: Ain't finished TF2's campaign yet - but I think I'm near the end. But so far - man, it's been awesome. The missions, the combat, the gameplay - it just rocks on so many levels. Nothing short of that.

Obviously, I'd love to see Titanfall 3 and SW: Battlefront 3 w/ awesome single-player campaigns again.
avatar
bluethief: However, I'm not as pessimist about the future of single player games as I as a few years ago. I remember when EA seemed to be going full multiplayer with Star Wars: Battlefront and the Titanfall not having single player components. There were some backlash and both sequels had campaigns. Also, their latest Star Wars game, Jedi Fallen Order is single player only is a success.

Microsoft wanted to go that route too, and now acquired a lot of studios that are known to produce great single player experiences.

And for both Nintendo and Playstation, great single player games has always been their bread and butter.
avatar
MysterD: Yeah, I do need to get around to getting Jedi Fallen Order; that so looks up my alley.

As for Sony: this is why I'm glad to see some Sony games, like say HZD and now Days Gone - getting PC ports. I hope they keep 'em coming.

I'd love to see The Last of Us series, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls Remake, Ghosts of Tsushima, Uncharted series, God of War series, and any other stuff from them hit the PC b/c just like you said: "Great single player games has always been their bread and butter."

I also liked Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls recently, when those hit the PC from Quantic Dream.
I believe we won't be seeing Titanfall 3 for a long time, unfortunately. Respawn, as per resports, are currently working on a new original IP, Fallen Order 2 and Apex Legends.

bluethief: We also got to know that Walmart has a cloud gaming service in the works:

https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/4/22418882/walmart-cloud-gaming-service-epic-games-trial-emails
First thought:

"Now that even Google giant's Stadia seems dead in the water, why do these newcomers think they can do better?"

The second thought:

"'Bring Your Own Game' (BYOG)??? What does that mean? Will the Walmart system allow people to install and play their own games obtained elsewhere, even GOG games?"

Anyway, I presume that will be US only. At least we don't have any Walmart's here.

Nope, you have Lidl and the like :P

Mr.Mumbles: Fortnite made over $9 billion between 2018 and 2019. All I can say is: I weep for humanity. Ugh.

Breja: It's times like this I realise it's a miracle it is we get any single player games at all anymore. And how much the gaming culture, outside of little "bubbles" such as GOG, has really left me behind. I will never understand what motivates people to play shit like that, not to mention pay money for some worthless virtual crap in such a game.
The thing is that there is only so much room for success stories like Fortnite. Most competitors will crash and burn. People tend to flock to the same online game where all their friends etc. are and what they read about in some gaming news, and leave all the other (online) game untouched.

I know this from experience because as long as I like playing e.g. Team Fortress 2 online, I have zero reason to even try out any other online games. TF2 already eats all my "online gaming" time. Also if people really buy lots of microtransaction crap on e.g. Fortnite, that just fortifies that they will stay with that game, instead of buying similar crap to some other online game.

(I actually tried out Fortnite too but I just couldn't get into it, I didn't find it as much fun as TF2 but maybe I didn't try to learn it properly...)

I must say I am surprised if that single game really made 1.5 more than the whole Steam behemoth, but then Steam is PC only, while Fortnite is very much crossplatform (including consoles and even mobile devices), so maybe that is the main reason...

Niggles: Looks like Epic has plenty of cash to throw at devs. No wonder they cave in. Pretty sad really.
All that money and a shitty website. They have more money than brains it seems.

Yeah, I am eagerly waiting for a Lidl gaming service and store.

Titanium: Nice to see the titans fighting every now and then. Entertaining and enlightening.
I really cannot believe I went with "titans" instead of "Timtans". My disappointment with myself is staggering.

Mr.Mumbles: I'm really not interested in arguing about the slugfest of multi-billion dollar companies - in the end, neither really cares about consumers - but I am interested about facts being made public that are tangentially related, such as:
While I see that those links contain a lot of information that I will want to read in depth later, I also like that the picture you attached will help me see what freebies I missed. Thank you.

(I'm posting specifically so I can find this page later.)

I used to like TF2 until it got bastardized by their stupid item-economy. Stopped playing since. *shrug*

I definitely hear you on sticking to one (or two) multiplayer game(s) though. There's only so much playtime to go around. My current go-tos are Rocket League and Overwatch.
Explosive Leaks - Epic Fraud Apple and Ubisoft by Upper Échelon Gamers.
Yep, Epic at work. Sunshine and rainbows.
Here's a leaked document that shows that some games are lifetime exclusives, like Oddworld: Soulstorm and WWZ.

I'm sure that that's income and not profit. Maybe they're losing money on that game, who knows?
